Snowblowers can be slightly tricky to handle if you have never used one before.
However, you should quickly get the hang of it if you have the correct information about how to operate them. You will need to go beyond just learning how to switch the snowblower on and off, so read on to learn more.
Today’s guide discusses the importance of snowblower chutes and how to adjust their cables.
Types Of Chutes
Before I tell you how to adjust a snowblower chute cable, let me tell you a little about chutes. There are three main types of chutes which include:
- Crank chute
- Manual chute
- Lever chute
The crank chute can be adjusted with a handle that needs to be rotated, and you may need to crank it many times for the chute to shift directions.
Moving on to manual chutes, these are the most difficult to handle. They are mostly cheaper and are found in snowblowers, which are not going to be used too much. Also, manual chutes can be inconvenient for those who are not physically very active.
You will have to operate the chute by hand, and this means you will have to walk around the snowblower to the chute. Then move it by hand to the direction that you want the snow to be thrown in.
There are also lever chutes that are pretty easy to control. For these devices, you would find a lever that can be pushed in and out to turn the chute to the left or right. If you are still planning to purchase a snowblower but are not keen on working too much, then lever chutes are your best option.
How to Adjust Snowblower Chute Cable
The chute cable needs to be adjusted often if you move the snowblower, and I am going to tell you how to do it in this section. Before I get into the details, let me tell you about the discharge chute, which comes with a cable-operated chute deflector. This is placed on top of the chute and is already pre-set by the brand.
However, you may have to adjust the chute cable if you are going to operate the unit at full efficiency. This process will take less than fifteen minutes if you have the necessary tools and knowledge about the job.
Step 1: Locating The Mounting Bracket
To begin with, you need to find the mounting bracket of the chute deflector cable. In case you are confused about it, open the manual and locate the part in the booklet.
If it is not provided, you can always call up customer care and ask for a user manual. They will generally provide a soft copy, which will be mailed to you. Otherwise, you can simply check Youtube for video references of the snowblower that you own.
Step 2: Loosening The Nuts
Once you have located the cable mount, you will need to open the nuts on the sides. There will be two nuts that need to be turned counterclockwise, so do it till they are loose but do not remove them from their respective positions.
The nuts just have to be loose so that you can turn the cable in any suitable direction.
Step 3: Adjusting The Nuts
You will need to adjust the nuts in a way so that the edge of the cable shifts nearer to the deflector. This will make the discharge chute rise higher.
But if you wish to bring down the discharge chute, then move the nuts downwards in regard to the discharge reflector.
Step 4: Tightening The Nuts
You can now tighten the nuts by turning them clockwise, and this should secure the chute cable mounting bracket in place.
Final Words
I have just started using a snowblower, and I found this process of adjusting the snowblower chute to be pretty simple. Just remember to loosen the nuts without removing them since you might find it difficult to put them back in place.
Also, if you have not loosened the nuts for a long time, they might be stuck. You can use the necessary tools to loosen them slightly, after which you can adjust the snowblower chute cable.
I will now leave you to it, and I am sure you will be able to do a great job after reading my guide. Until next time!
