There are few greater pests than flying cockroaches. Killing them can be an overwhelming task for most; fortunately, I’m here to help. 

Most people I know either find cockroaches terrifying or gross. Now, add the flying element, and they can become one of the scariest and most annoying creatures on the planet. Cockroaches might have their place in the world; however, I don’t wish to welcome them into my home!

That said, you don’t need to deal with these pesky creatures in your building any longer. Let me tell you some natural and chemical methods you can use to get rid of them.

Types Of Flying Cockroaches

As with any other species, you will find several types of flying cockroaches in the world. Although most people would not want to invest the time to inspect these creatures, here are some of the most common types that you should know about.

• American cockroach
• Wood cockroach
• Australian cockroach
• Smoky brown cockroach
• Asian cockroach
• German cockroach
• Cuban cockroach

Keep in mind that most baby cockroaches do not have wings, which obviously means that they cannot fly. However, they will eventually grow their wings, making them tougher to trap and kill. If you find any baby roaches in your home, consider killing them using the methods I will discuss in the next section.

Ways To Kill A Flying Cockroach

1. Identify Their Hiding Spots

If you have spotted a flying cockroach or a baby roach in your room, it is essential to identify their hiding spot at the earliest. That way, you can target the entire clan instead of just one of the pesky creatures that you see flying about. 

2. Spray With Insecticide

If you can’t find their hiding spot and want to kill the one flying around the room instead, consider using a strong insecticide to do so. That being said, it is vital for you to leave the room as soon as you do this, as the toxic fumes can be hazardous. 

Consider spraying the entire room with the insecticide and leaving the room for a few hours, if possible. Close all the doors and windows of the room for maximum effectiveness. However, you can also consider keeping one small window open so the cockroach can fly out of the room. 

3. Use A Boric Acid Solution

One of the most effective methods to get rid of flying cockroaches is to use boric acid. This solution has been tried and tested for generations, and it works excellently. 

Take a container or a mason jar and add three teaspoons of water. Now, add three teaspoons of boric acid and three more teaspoons of sugar. The smell of sugar water will attract the cockroaches towards the jar. Once they have a taste of the poisonous concoction, they will get dehydrated and eventually die. 

It is vital to be safe when using this solution in your home, especially if you have children or pets around the house. Although the solution is not extremely hazardous to humans, it is unsafe nonetheless and should be kept away from their reach.

4. Use A Vacuum Cleaner

If the flying cockroach is not on the ground and out of your reach, you can use a vacuum cleaner to suck it up. Once it is trapped inside the vacuum cleaner bag, set it outside or use a heavy object to kill it within the bag first, and then empty the bag.

5. Pour Water On The Flying Cockroach

No one likes to get randomly drenched in water - not even these pesky critters! If a flying cockroach has landed in a spot where you can easily reach it, consider pouring water on it. However, be careful while doing this, as it may decide to fly while you are approaching it. 

Once you have drenched the cockroach in water, it will not be able to open its wings and fly for a few moments. Use this time to find a slipper, newspaper, or any object to swat and kill it before it dries itself. 

6. Food-grade Diatomaceous Earth

Not many people know this, but food-grade diatomaceous earth is an excellent, natural method of killing flying cockroaches. Once you have identified the hiding spots of the flying cockroaches and their family, sprinkle this product in and around the area. This will kill them naturally. 

Of course, you have to find the courage to clean up their dead bodies after the mess! Use a vacuum cleaner or a broom to sweep them up and dispose of them outdoors. 

7. Sugar And Baking Soda

Although baking soda can be an extremely helpful ingredient for food preparation, it is toxic to cockroaches. Mix a little sugar with baking soda and sprinkle it around the areas where you see flying cockroaches. The sweet smell of sugar will attract them to this mixture, but the baking soda will kill them instantly.
