Best Telescoping Ladders That Are Hassle-free To Use

Anyone who knows me knows that I am constantly involved in some DIY project or the other.

While most of my tasks are small, certain projects are extensive and require more time. Like during Christmas, I prefer to hang lights by myself instead of hiring people. Initially, I would use a regular ladder, and to be honest, it was getting complicated to manage.

That is when my friend, Philip, told me about telescoping ladders over a very long phone call. Once I got used to using that, there was no going back. Without a doubt, DIY projects have become more fun now.

Hi! My name is Stacy, and if you’re looking for an easy-to-use ladder that’ll help you reach all nooks and crannies, keep on reading. Today, I will be reviewing the best telescoping ladders on the market.

Top 5 Telescoping Ladders  Reviews

1. Ohuhu Y17-80100-07

Ohuhu Y17-80100-07

One of the first ladders I ever tried was this one. This telescopic ladder by Ohuhu was a great (and welcome) change from the bulky ladder I was previously using. Let me tell you why.

Product Highlights

We all know that the highlight of telescopic ladders is that the height is adjustable, but it was the convenience that stood out in this case. This one only has two buttons that need to be pressed for it to extend up to 12 ft. Plus, it has locking pins to keep it in place.

Additionally, it has a sturdy carrying strap that you can use to lift and store it. The days of the ladder digging into your skin are long gone. Another thing I was pretty impressed with was the overall make of the ladder. It’s made with aluminum alloy, so not only is it sturdy but also lightweight and easy to use.

Also, the ladder has a high weight-bearing capacity of around 330 lbs. Plus, it has non-slip caps to hold it in place, so you know you are safe.

What’s There To Like About It?

One of the things I loved was the thumb locking pins. It is very smooth and easy to use, plus it is just two buttons which makes the process less complicated. Moreover, expansion and retraction of each section are safe and free from the possibility of pinched fingers.

The non-slip caps under the base were also of considerable help as I have a significant fear of the ladder slipping while I’m on it. Plus, storing it is not a hassle since it can fit just about anywhere.

What’s There Not To Like About It?

One of the significant issues I found with this ladder was that it tends to wobble a bit as you climb since it is lightweight. There is no chance of toppling over, but it can be a bit scary. I advise having someone to hold on as you climb; but after that, it’s smooth sailing.

Pros and Cons of Ohuhu Y17-80100-07

Pros

  • Easy to expand and retract
  • Easy locking pins
  • Two thumb buttons
  • Non-slip base

Cons

  • A bit wobbly while climbing
Aluminum Telescoping Ladder, Ohuhu Upgraded 12.5 FT ANSI Certified One-Button Retraction Extension Ladder Retractable Collapsible Ladders, Telescopic Compact Ladder for Home RV Loft Silver
  • One Button Retraction: Convenience is key! That’s why we’ve designed this telescoping ladder with easy one button retraction. Simply push down on the thumb buttons and the ladder will slowly slide down effortlessly
  • America National Standards Type I Ladder: Ohuhu extension ladder has passed the test of ANSI-ASC 14.2-2017 American National Standard for Ladders-Portable Metal - Safety Requirements, which makes it be safer and more reassuring when use the ladder
  • More Than 60% Overlapping: This collapsible ladder is crafted from high-quality aluminum alloy and with more than 60% overlapping on each casing tube, it's heavy duty and much more stable than other normal telescopic ladders

2. WolfWise FBA_LP230943

Next on the list is the telescoping ladder by WolfWise. Usually, I would use the Ohuhu ladder, but after my son and his wife spoke highly of this one, I just had to try it.

Product Highlights

Straight off the bat, one of the things that stood out was the seamless rods. Most old ladders have a spliced design that tends to bend or split on too much pressure, but not this one. WolfWise’s ladder has a traceless design that remains stable. This is because the overlapping aluminum tubes are on the inside.

Speaking of aluminum tubes, this ladder is made with aerospace engineered aluminum alloy. It also has a clean-touch anodized finish, making the ladder sturdy and capable of handling more weight. The total weight-bearing capacity is 330 lbs.

Additionally, instead of having one button on every step, it has a single button to expand and retract the ladder. It can extend all the way to 12.5 ft. and takes only 5-8 seconds. Plus, when retracted, the whole thing weighs just 24.6 lbs making it super easy to carry around.

What’s There To Like About It?

Overall, I really liked the feel of the ladder since it is sturdy yet lightweight. When my son couldn’t find his, carrying it in the back of my car was a stress-free experience since it is sufficiently lightweight and easy to store in the boot.

Moreover, since it can be partially extended too, it is easy to use inside the house and is relatively stable. Cleaning the hard-to-reach corners near the ceiling became much easier after I got this.

What’s There Not To Like About It?

While the ladder is relatively smooth in the beginning, certain rungs need a bit of a pull after prolonged use. Basically, it might not be as smooth as you first start using it. The problem with this is that there is no way to clean it without entirely breaking it apart. Other than that, it is a sturdy and stable ladder.

Pros and Cons of WolfWise FBA_LP230943

Pros

  • Seamless design
  • High weight capacity
  • Can be used indoors
  • Lightweight and portable

Cons

  • Smoothness compromised after prolonged use

3. Toolitin TL-20190928-125G

Toolitin TL-20190928-125G

Another great brand to rely on for telescopic ladders is Toolitin. I was first introduced to this brand by my friend, Phillip, and I was pretty surprised to see how sleek and smooth the ladder was.

Product Highlights

Much like the others on this list so far, this one, too, is made of aluminum alloy. The oxidized surface of the ladder makes it sturdy enough to withstand heavy weights. Plus, it is reinforced with nylon fiber for improved stability and added aging resistance. The total weight-bearing capacity is 330 lbs.

Additionally, it has quite a smart locking system under each rung, and the locking button can be used to adjust the height of each rung as well. The anti-skid pads make sure the ladder stays in place and stable. Moreover, the retraction is smooth and slow, so there are no chances of pinched fingers.

Another great feature is the shatter-proof bumps on the side of the ladder. The bumps help protect the ladder in case it hits a hard surface. Other than that, it is pretty easy to carry, thanks to the carrying handle, and is convenient to store.

What’s There To Like About It?

I mainly found the shatter-proof bumps to be quite convenient. During some of my DIY projects, the ladder has fallen, and the impact always scares me. At least this way, I know nothing catastrophic will happen to it.

Another feature I appreciated a lot was the slow-down feature. The Toolitin ladder is designed such that while retracting, the ladder comes down slowly and smoothly. This makes it safe for everyone to use.

What’s There Not To Like About It?

The only issue with it is that it is a bit heavier than expected. Having used telescopic ladders from other brands, I would have expected this to be light, but it surely had a bit of weight to it. Other than that, it is pretty handy to use.

Pros and Cons of Toolitin TL-20190928-125G

Pros

  • Shatter-proof bumps
  • Slow-down feature
  • Sleek design
  • Anti-locking system

Cons

  • A bit heavier than expected

4. Xtend & Climb Pro 785P Plus

Xtend & Climb Pro 785P Plus

People who live in houses with high roofs or professional painters and contractors often require long ladders to get certain jobs done. I highly recommend the Xtend & Pro series for such situations.

Product Highlights

The Pro series of ladders by Xtend & Climb is a must-have if you frequently involve yourself with DIY projects. These ladders are great since they are lightweight and made for professionals like painters, contractors, etc. They are also helpful for people whose houses have high roofs.

The number one reason why this product stands out is because of the height it can extend to. It can go all the way to 15.5 feet and retracts to 36.5 inches, making it perfect for both personal and professional use. In addition to that, it locks by foot and has an angled thumb release which ensures proper hand position.

Moreover, it has over-molded feet that ensure it remains stable. Carrying this ladder is not an issue at all since it has an integrated handle for easy transportation.

What’s There To Like About It?

I was very impressed with how compact it became once retracted. This massively long ladder comes down to 36.5 inches which makes it effortless to carry around and move. Plus, it can handle about 250 lbs of weight, making it ideal for DIY projects around the house.

Additionally, I quite liked the double over-molded base as it made the ladder very stable. Irrespective of the surface, the ladder stood its ground.

What’s There Not To Like About It?

While this is a highly recommended brand and many of my friends are happy with it, I was a bit disappointed with the lack of one feature. The ladder does not come down slowly and is quick to retract, which is something to be careful about.

Pros and Cons of Xtend & Climb Pro 785P Plus

Pros

  • Stable structure
  • Very long reach
  • Does not take up much space
  • Easy to carry

Cons

  • Comes down quickly while retracting
Xtend & Climb Pro Series 785P+ Telescoping Ladder, Blue
  • Meets new 2019 ANSI/OSHA standards for safety compliance and duty rating.

5. Luisladders Telescoping Ladder

No products found.

Next I have for you the Luisladders telescoping ladder which was recommended to me by a few friends, including Phillip. They knew I was looking for a new ladder, and this one was ideal for indoor as well as outdoor use.

Product Highlights

One of the features that immediately stood out to me was that it has wide steps. Most of the new brands make ladders with very thin steps that can be tricky to step on, but this one allows for proper grip. Additionally, each rung can be extended and adjusted as per your requirement.

It also has one button, which allows for the whole ladder to retract smoothly in one go. This button is placed in a way where it can cause no harm to your fingers. Moreover, it also has a non-slip mat which will keep the entire structure stable as you work.

That’s not all; the ladder is made with corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy. The entire frame is quite sturdy and has a total weight-bearing capacity of 330 lbs. Plus, it collapses into a comfortable size that is easy to carry and even easier to store.

What’s There To Like About It?

The one thing I really appreciated was the “safe catch” button under each rung that ensures the rung stays in place. Moreover, the wider steps on the ladder also caught my eye since I always have had trouble balancing due to smaller steps.

Additionally, I love that it can be adjusted as per requirement instead of expanding the whole thing. It helps when you’re trying to decorate the house or clean certain windows situated at odd heights.

What’s There Not To Like About It?

Overall, I really liked the ladder, as it helped me complete many projects. However, there is one thing that you need to be wary of. Despite having thick rods, the ladder tends to dip in the middle as you climb. It never broke when I used it, but I definitely had my suspicions.

Pros and Cons of Luisladders Telescoping Ladder

Pros

  • Non-slip pads under the legs
  • Each rung can be adjusted
  • Retracts smoothly
  • Portable and lightweight

Cons

  • Dips in the middle while climbing

Buyers Guide

With that, we come to the end of my review of the best telescoping ladders. However, I am not going to leave just yet. You must be wondering how I picked these specific five among the hundreds available, as they are somewhat the same yet different.

This is because certain features need to be taken into consideration when looking at products like these. If you are looking into buying a telescoping ladder other than the ones I’ve reviewed, take a look at this buyer’s guide first. Hopefully, it will give you an idea of what to look for and expect.

1. Material

This is the first thing to look at when it comes to telescoping ladders. The construction and frame of the ladder are key since they will determine how durable it is. The most common material used is aluminum alloy or aircraft-grade aluminum. Materials like that give the frame a bit of strength and weight so it can be stable.

However, for professional use, I would suggest looking at fiberglass models as opposed to aluminum. This is because the latter is not very safe for the workplace as it conducts electricity. The only issue is fiberglass is more expensive.

2. Height And Reach

The next most important feature is height and reach. Since you are looking for a ladder that can extend, it is natural to expect it will reach every nook and cranny of the house. For residential use, I always suggest people should buy 12-16 foot ladders as there is no need for anything taller than that.

For more professional uses and construction sites, 18-20 foot ladders are ideal. They offer ample height and make work easier. The only issue with longer ladders is that they are a bit heavier and difficult to carry.

3. Compactness

Having a ladder that folds down to a comfortable size is quite important. There is no use for such ladders if they do not collapse into a comfortable height to ease storage and portability. Plus, it can be difficult for homeowners if there is no space to store large ladders in.

I would advise to look out for ladders that become less than three feet after retracting since that is the ideal height. Ladders of that height can easily be stored in any cupboard of the house and are relatively lightweight.

4. Weight capacity

You are buying the ladder to climb onto it, so naturally, it must have a high weight-bearing capacity. The first thing would be to look at the safety accreditations which can confirm that it is safe to climb onto.

Next would be to look at the material to ascertain the weight-bearing capacity. Most ladders would have a capacity between 250 lbs. to 300 lbs. Also, remember, the ladder can cost more due to more weight-bearing ability so choose wisely.

5. Safety features

Ladder-related accidents are pretty common, which is why it is imperative to buy something that is safe with every use. One of the best ways to ensure safety is by buying ladders with locking pins. Not only do these allow rungs to be adjusted based on your requirement, but there is a surety that nothing will go wrong.

These pins will keep the rungs in place and ensure there is no disruption in stability, even if the ladder bears maximum weight.

6. Smoothness

The biggest reason you are picking a telescopic ladder over a regular ladder is for ease of use. This is why telescopic ladders need to be smooth while extending and retracting. The idea is to make the whole process as stress-free as possible.

Other than convenience, struggling to open and close a ladder is one of the major causes of accidents. If the ladder is smooth and opens with just the push of a button, this will definitely reduce the effort.

7. Carry Strap

Since storage is an essential aspect of these ladders, it would be unfair not to mention this point. Telescopic or not, ladders are not the most comfortable to hold, and hence can become quite tough to pick up.

Having a carry strap on these ladders makes it easier to carry as this prevents them from digging into the skin. Moreover, with most models, the carry strap can go across the shoulder, so the weight is distributed. These straps also ensure the ladder is folded securely and will not  unfold while being transported.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is it possible to use the telescopic ladder as anything else?

Absolutely! If you choose to, the telescopic ladder can also be used as small stairs. With these, you can reach kitchen and workshop shelves without even extending them fully. However, please be careful as you do this and make sure the surface is flat and stable.

2. Are telescopic ladders safe indoors?

Without a doubt! These ladders are not just made for the great outdoors but to help around inside the house as well. Just be careful while setting the ladder up in the house and read all instructions carefully. It will also be of use to understand the mechanics of how it locks and stays in place before climbing on to it.

3. Do I need a fiberglass or aluminum ladder?

Fiberglass is much more expensive than aluminum. It is mainly found and used in construction sites where people work with electricity, as fiberglass does not conduct. So, while it is based on your requirement, I would suggest that if you are working around electricity a lot, get fiberglass. If not, save a little bit of money and get the aluminum one instead.

My Final Recommendation

And there you have it, a comprehensive guide and review of the best telescoping ladders available in the market. I understand this is a lot of information to handle, so take your time and feel free to go through it as many times as you need to.

In case there is still a bit of confusion, allow me to reiterate my personal favorites. I would strongly recommend buying the ladders by Ohuhu and No products found.. My second most favorite one is the ladder by Toolitin. It may be a bit heavy to carry but serves its purpose well.

On that note, I shall take your leave and be back with more such guides and reviews. See you next time!
