Sun Joe Tiller Review

Gone are the days of back-breaking labor in the garden every time a new growing season comes around.

Today, I found my old, trusty hoe lying around at the back of the toolshed, and it made me realize – I haven’t used it in a long time. This comes as good news because the hoe may be robust and durable, but I cannot say the same for my back anymore.

Although I was full of nostalgia thinking about all the times I spent weeding and tilling with the tool; I am glad I moved on to my electrical Sun Joe tiller for those needs. Hi! My name is Stacy, and today I will be reviewing the Sun Joe tiller to help you decide if you should buy it too.

What Is Sun Joe Tiller?

What Is Sun Joe Tiller?

The Sun Joe tiller is an electrically powered outdoor tool that tills the soil with minimal effort, and keeps weeds at bay throughout the year. If you have a small backyard garden like me, this product will do the trick for most garden-upkeep needs.

That being said, this tiller is more compact than the gas-powered tiller my husband uses for the lawn. But don’t be fooled – it tears through the soil with as much power as its gas-powered counterparts that are almost six times its size.

Needless to say, the Sun Joe tiller is a quick and effortless alternative, especially when compared to mechanical tools, such as the traditional hoe.

How Does Sun Joe Tiller Work?

A 13.5-amp motor resting in the heart of the Sun Joe tiller proves itself to be the powerhouse of the machine. All you need to do is plug the device in and squeeze the trigger for it to begin pulverizing soil, weeds, rocks, and anything that comes in the way.

Along with the motor, six formidable angle tines cut through the garden bed at 370 RPM. Moreover, the machine has a comfortable tilling width of 16 inches, so you don’t have to work for too long to get a small garden prepped. What’s more, height-adjustable wheels make the task of tilling all the more convenient.

Sun Joe Tiller Features

1. Powerful

Before buying any electrical tiller, it is best to check its voltage or amperage. Generally, the higher the amperage is, the better the machine works in slicing stubborn grass and soil.

With a 13.5-amp motor that allows for a rotational speed of 370 RPM, it is sufficient to say that the Sun Joe tiller is a powerful tool. Moreover, it is equipped with steel angled tines that make the chopping process more manageable.

2. Maintenance-Free

Unlike most gas-powered tools, electrical alternatives don’t pose the risk of fumes, sparks, or smoke. Moreover, the former is notorious for its exorbitant tune-up and repair costs.

On the other hand, electrical gadgets start up quickly, as long as there is a reliable power source nearby. Anyhow, the wheels, angled tines, and all the parts are made of high-quality material that can handle the machine’s strength – that alone speaks volumes about its durability.

3. Ease-Of-Use

Ease of maneuvering the machine around the garden is as important as its tilling strength. That being said, the machine rests on two height-adjustable wheels that allow easy movement.

Irrespective of having a big or a slight build, one of the three adjustable heights will indeed suit your needs. What’s more, it is light enough to carry around effortlessly – combine this with the fact that it is easy to start and comfortable to use. And you have yourself a mighty little machine.

4. Easy Storage

While handling it on the field is hassle-free, the Sun Joe tiller is also undemanding when it comes to storage. Take the collapsible handles down when you are done using the machine and store in any small corner of the garage. Additionally, easy storage and its compact size make this a handy portable tool.

FAQs

1. Can The Tines Be Removed For Tilling Narrower Areas?

The steel tines are assembled in groups of three on either side of the machine. While these cannot be separated as they are bolted through, you can still remove either of the two sets. Naturally, you would be using one side of the tiller for your work.

2. How Long Should The Extension Cord Be?

According to the manufacturer, nothing more than a 100 feet extension cord should be used. Moreover, since the machine uses a 13.5-amp motor, a 12-gauge cord is recommended to power the device safely.

3. Does It Come With An Extension Cord?

While you need to buy a 12-gauge extension separately, the package does include a 12-inch drop cord that comes up to the handle of the tiller. Attach the extension cord and use the locking mechanism next to the handle to ensure that it stays plugged in as you work.

And, who could say no to the adjustable steel tines of the Earthwise TC70016 model? After all, it works both as an edger and a tiller.
