Blazing sun, scorching heat, and long days - Yes, Summer’s here!
The air is dry and heated, but the good thing about summers is that you can go to Rio beach and enjoy to your heart’s content. Summers bring back memories from my childhood. Every summer, my father planned a family vacation to Rio, my favorite place.
We’d go to the Copacabana beach, have merriment time in the waters, build sandcastles and watch people taking sunset strolls.
Being a swimmer, my father knew how important it was to keep feet protected at the beach. So, he bought us both water socks and water shoes to make sure we enjoy ourselves to the fullest. It was only then and there that my father shared with me everything about the two water gears. Since then, they’ve become my best friends and accompany me to any beach.
Hi! I’m Stacy Smith, and today I have curated a guide on the hotly debated topic - “water socks vs. water shoes” to help you pick the correct one for your vacations at the beach. So, let’s not procrastinate anymore, and get straight to the deets!
Water Socks vs. Water Shoes
Whether you’re going to spend summer vacations by the beach or you’re a kayaker, having a pair of either water shoes or water socks will make a world of difference.
Having used both the beach wears, I’m here to solve your dilemma of which one to go for your upcoming vacation or wild swimming competition. Let’s take a look at the two accessories.
What Are Water Socks?
Water socks pretty much look like the ordinary socks that you have in your closet. At least, it did to me! However, they are also known as aqua socks. While regular socks are made of cotton or woolen material, water socks are composed of neoprene or lycra. You must have heard about these two materials on the market.
From ankle-high to high-tops, water socks come in different heights, much like your regular office socks. Not only that, but some water socks feature adjustable ankle cuffs to ensure they are a snug fit and hold up well in high-pressure waters.
Water socks are pretty common among regular swimmers. Moreover, even scuba divers and snorkelers have started using water socks to avoid chafing. Plus, these socks keep your feet warm too. Hearing this, I tried them in Amarillo, and to my surprise, they did a decent job in keeping my feet warm.
Although they prevent your feet from jellyfish stings and scraping, they do not offer much friction.

What Are Water Shoes?
Whether you are going to the beach or river rafting, water shoes are perfect for all your water adventures. Featuring a mesh top, water shoes are made out of rubber. They are designed ingeniously for wet surfaces to offer comfort and excellent grip. Honestly, this is what I love the most about water shoes.
These shoes are incredibly versatile, for they can be used anywhere and everywhere. Because of their versatility, I’ve used water shoes while exploring lakes, rivers, strolling at the beach, while boating and at the malls too.
What you’ll love about these water shoes is that they are flexible, breathable, and above all, most comfortable. As such, they are designed especially for walking in water. Additionally, these shoes dry out pretty quickly, thanks to their mesh top.
What I loved the most about water shoes is that they do an excellent job of protecting your feet against the odds. Whether jagged shells, sharp rocks, hot sand, or big stings from little water creatures, they keep your pretty feet protected from almost everything.

Buying Guide
Since the two are pretty identical to each other, I understand that picking one would be a daunting task for you. This is why I’ve designed a buying guide to ensure you choose the correct one for your needs. Move on and take a look.
1. Consider Your Needs
Before deciding whether to go for water socks or water shoes, consider your needs. For all your regular swimming, water socks are a perfect choice. Meanwhile, if you’re a professional swimmer, kayaker, or someone involved in water adventures, I’d suggest you go for water shoes.
Alternatively, consider the longevity, comfort, and friction to ensure you don’t end up buying the wrong one for your adventures. Consider your needs and then pick one that you find perfect for all the water tasks.
2. Size Of Your Feet
Just as the world follows the trend of buying shoes of the correct size, you must follow that trend while buying water gears too. I’d recommend you follow a simple rule: if it doesn’t fit, don’t buy it. Since these gears are meant for use underwater, it’s better you go for only ones that are a snug fit.
3. Quality Of The Water Gear
The quality of the gear is important. Speaking from experience, I’ll suggest you invest in high-quality gears because they will surely last longer than you can imagine. Of course, you wouldn’t want the gears to tear apart the first day of use. Therefore, high-quality gear is what you must go for.
4. Price
It doesn’t make sense to break the bank for just a pair of water gears. Although I appreciate your passion for water sports, it simply isn’t wise to invest in the most expensive gears available on the market. Therefore, I’ll suggest you fish for high-quality gears coupled with an affordable price tag.
Final Words
Whether you’re going for a vacation in Rio or indulge yourself frequently in water sports, water socks and water shoes are perfect for protecting those feet from damage. Additionally, they are highly versatile.
Speaking from my experience with the two water gears, I’d say that water socks are perfect for your everyday swimming needs. Water shoes, on the other hand, are the best bet for all your rigorous water adventures, from kayaking to wild swimming in the ocean.
Moreover, if you still find choosing one difficult, refer to the buying guide that I’ve added or reach out to me. I’ll be glad to help you out.
That’s all for today, folks. Take care!
