Best Ladder For Cleaning Gutters: Newbie Friendly Guide

Shopping for ladders isn’t typically fun, but sometimes you just need to step up!

When my son called the other day to inquire about ladders, I won't lie; I was quite surprised. This is because I knew he already owned a sturdy ladder, sitting in the basement for the past five years. But that's when he told me that the old ladder broke while he was at work the other day.

I was glad that no one got hurt while using it. But this meant my son would need a brand new ladder for his part-time job of cleaning the community pool building gutters. So, I got to researching and ended up finding five ladders suitable for reaching high or low places.

Hi! I'm Stacy, and I found the best ladder for cleaning gutters, so I thought of sharing it with my dear readers. Without further ado, let's begin with the reviews.

Top 5 Ladders For Cleaning Gutters

1. Bowoshen Telescoping Ladder

No products found.

One of the first options I got a chance to review was the 6.2 m telescoping ladder by Bowoshen. With a load capacity of 330 pounds and adjustable rungs, this option is excellent for reaching longer distances.

Product Highlights

First of all, I decided upon this brand because of the incredible range of ladders they have got. For me, ladder height and portability were the most critical factors, and upon getting a close look, this provided that and more.

The option I selected had an extension and retractable design, which can open up to 6.2 meters or 20.3 feet. And when not in use, it can retract down to 3.5 feet. Moreover, this brand has considered all safety standards. For example, it comes with two hooks on each ladder rung for secure fixing.

It also has a durable aluminum design and industrial-grade height locking latches. Besides, it features anti-slip rubber feet at the bottom of the ladder to prevent movement.

Lastly, using the ladder is super easy. Whether you want to climb down to the gutters to fix pipes or go atop the roof for fixing tiles, this ladder works in all locations.

What's There To Like About It?

We needed a ladder that would be easy to use and store. What I liked about this option was that it managed to excel at both. If you want to extend the ladder, start from the top rung and extend fully till you hear the click sound. This sound indicates the rungs are firmly in place.

Retracting the ladder is equally easy, unlocking one step at a time from the bottom, and you're done. With a retracted height of 3.5 feet, you can store this ladder in the storage closet or under the bed.

What's There Not To Like About It?

This ladder can reach considerable heights, and so it would make your job easier since you can't really clean the gutters with a short ladder. So, no complaints on that aspect.

But I wanted to point out one thing that could be improved. The ladder was slightly heavy to carry around, and a lighter option would have been better.

Pros and Cons of Bowoshen Telescoping Ladder

Pros

  • Multipurpose
  • Anti-slip rubber feet
  • Safety hooks
  • Portable

Cons

  • Slightly heavy

2. Little Giant Ladder Systems ‎15426-001

Little Giant Ladder Systems ‎15426-001

Another ladder I decided to check was the ‎15426-001 model by Little Giant Ladder Systems. This unit can extend up to 26 feet yet weighs only 50 pounds, making it a lightweight choice for climbing hard-to-reach places.

Product Highlights

Now, I thought another aluminum ladder would not be that different from the first option I selected. Yet, it was easy to tell that this option was unlike the previous one. For starters, the design is entirely different. While the earlier ladder was a telescoping one that shrunk in height, this option is mainly an A-frame model.

However, this multi-position ladder can also convert to extension, trestle and plank, 90-degrees, and staircase style. It also has lock adjusters that allow you to lock the ladder in these different configurations firmly. The stepladder size is 6 feet 6 inches, and the top width is 1 foot 6 inches.

Apart from that, this model can easily hold 300 pounds of weight. And the best part is, you can glide this ladder from one place to another due to its tip and glide wheels.

Finally, all products from this brand meet the OSHA and ANSI standards.

What's There To Like About It?

There were several models available from the same brand, but I chose this option for several reasons. Firstly, this two-person ladder is 20% lighter than any other industrial-grade aluminum ladder. This, along with the tiny wheels, make it easy to carry.

Secondly, there aren't many ladders that can form so many different configurations. The fact that you get to use the same ladder in several ways makes this option pretty unique.

What's There Not To Like About It?

I don't claim to be an expert when it comes to ladders, but I can share an opinion or two based on my experience. Yes, the multipurpose feature is really useful for a variety of purposes. But a newbie might not be able to adjust to all the configurations alone.

Pros and Cons of Little Giant Ladder Systems ‎15426-001

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Easy to transport
  • Multi-position ladder
  • Meets OSHA, ANSI standards

Cons

  • Not ideal for beginners
Little Giant Ladders, Velocity with Wheels, M26, 26 Ft, Multi-Position Ladder, Aluminum, Type 1A, 300 lbs Weight Rating, (15426-001)
  • Multi-position ladder converts to A-frame, extension, trestle-and-plank, 90-degree and staircase with ease
  • Rock Lock adjusters quickly alter your ladder into different configurations
  • Tip & Glide wheels for easy transport from job to job

3. Louisville Ladder FS2008

Louisville Ladder FS2008

Next, I've included the FS2008 model by Louisville Ladder. This is a fiberglass ladder that reaches up to 8 feet and handles 250 pounds of weight. It is also pretty light, weighing at around 21 pounds.

Product Highlights

Yes, I needed to check the taller ladders to be on the safer side while recommending a few options to my son. However, I also wanted to see some smaller ladders in case they might be helpful. This is why I decided to check this 8-foot step ladder by Louisville. It is sturdy because it's made using high quality, non-conductive fiberglass.

Also, this model has a patented system called pro top. This V-shaped top helps the ladder to lean properly against walls and poles that are helpful when working on electrical repairs, construction, or cleaning gutters. You also get a drill, hardware tray, tool slots, pipe, and 2x4 holder with the ladder.

Besides, this model makes up for its limited height with its sturdy build and stability. With its beautiful design and well-rounded finish, it isn't easy to get a more reliable model. Not to mention that it can handle 250 pounds in weight and has slip-resistant rubber feet.

What's There To Like About It?

One thing I liked about this model was the durability it offers. After the previous ladder broke, we were pretty keen on getting one that could last many years. And this option might be smaller compared to others on this list, but it sure is sturdy.

The second feature worth mentioning is the addition of extra tools that are sure to come in handy during projects. The hardware tray, paint can holder, pipe holder, and tool slots are included with the ladder.

What's There Not To Like About It?

Even the best of options have at least one drawback, and the FS2008 model is no exception. The ladder is excellent at resisting wear even after years of usage. However, some online reviewers wrote that they did not receive the product in proper packaging. Some others claimed that since the box was faulty, the ladder suffered some scratches during delivery.

Pros and Cons of Louisville Ladder FS2008

Pros

  • Non-conductive fiberglass material
  • Elegant and sturdy design
  • Additional tools included
  • Slip-resistant rubber feet

Cons

  • Poor packaging

  • NON-CONDUCTIVE: Crafted with fiberglass for non-conductive safety assurance, this Fiberglass Stepladder combines strength and durability.
  • SUPERIOR BUILD: With its 250-Pound capacity, this 8-foot step ladder is made of superior quality fiberglass with an elegant design and smooth finish
  • ULTIMATE STABILITY: Featuring slip-resistant rubber feet and angle feet with thick rubber tread on all four legs, this fiberglass step ladder ensures secure footing.

4. Luisladders 18.5-Feet Folding Ladder

No products found.

Next, I decided to include the 18.5-feet folding ladder by Luisladders. This product comes in 12.5 feet and 15.5 feet, too. This aluminum ladder is made of heavy-duty aircraft material, making it a stable and durable choice.

Product Highlights

Let's begin with the most valuable and versatile feature of them all. This ladder can be used as a leaning ladder, scaffold, stepladder and can be folded into different shapes to meet various height requirements and operational needs. And if you need to store it, it folds up to 60 x 9.8 x 23.4 inches.

Surprisingly, the aircraft-aluminum construction does not hinder its folding ability. The square rungs and supporting tube help make the structure durable no matter what shape you place it in. And this ladder can tolerate a load of 330 pounds easily.

Apart from that, it has a click and lock system that makes it safe to use for anybody. There are six points of locks that can be opened and locked securely after changing the ladder shape. As far as safety is concerned, the ladder is equipped with anti-slip foot straps that prevent the ladder from sliding when opened.

What's There To Like About It?

One feature that a ladder cannot do without is a system that makes the ladder safe and reliable for every use. The anti-slip zigzag design consists of foot straps that keep the ladder in place as you climb. Also, the undulating ridges of the square rungs can prevent the feet from slipping while using the ladder.

A good thing about this product is that it comes with a workboard and user manual without any additional cost.

What's There Not To Like About It?

With this option, you get seven different uses with just one purchase. On the one hand, this is a great win for the product, but on the other, it might be a challenge to use.

In my opinion, not everyone can change the ladder positions as easily. And this option is not light either, so using this ladder is a minimum two-person job.

Pros and Cons of Luisladders 18.5-Feet Folding Ladder

Pros

  • Durable product
  • Multifunctional
  • Easy to store
  • Click-and-lock security system
  • Anti-slip design

Cons

  • Heavy material
  • Challenging to install alone

5. Boweiti TEL-155

Boweiti TEL-155

The TEL-155 model by Boweiti is also a telescopic extension ladder, similar to my first choice. This ladder comes in four height options ranging from 8.5 feet to 15.5 feet.

Product Highlights

Finally, here's the tallest option in the TEL-155 model range, the 15.5-feet ladder. This aluminum product by Boweiti might not have been my first choice for a telescopic ladder, but it was one of the best I reviewed this time. This model goes to a minimum height of around 3 feet, making it easy to carry around if you need it for work.

Also, there's no doubt about the quality of the material. It's pretty sturdy, made of aluminum alloy, and will last many years to come if you take care of it. This is why I think it's perfect for home as well as commercial use. Use it for painting, repairing the roof, decorating interiors, or even cleaning gutters, and it will work the same at each location.

Along with that, it can hold a load of 330 pounds or 150 kgs at a time without hurting the structure.

What's There To Like About It?

Now, if there's one thing that makes anyone happy - it's free stuff! This ladder comes with a good quality carry bag for storing, a pair of work gloves, a user manual, and lifetime technical support. If you have any questions, their backend team usually responds quickly and resolves the issue.

The next thing I liked was the durability across the ladder sizes. Usually, ladders tend to creak and bend as they get taller, but not this one. The tallest option was as strong as the smallest one.

What's There Not To Like About It?

Although several useful features make this ladder a good choice, there are a couple of drawbacks too. A few online reviewers mentioned that the ladder was easy to climb on and tolerated the weight of an average size human well enough. But over time, it started leaning a bit to the side, which can be dangerous if not fixed.

Pros and Cons of Boweiti TEL-155

Pros

  • Durable material
  • Handles weight of 330 pounds
  • Comes with a carry bag and gloves
  • Compact and portable

Cons

  • May start leaning after continuous use

Buyers Guide

Now that you know the best options out there, it's time to figure out which option is best suited for you. Here are a few things to keep in mind before purchasing a ladder-

1. Ladder Style And Design

a. Step And Folding Ladder

Step and fold ladders are the most versatile option available. Since they can be folded and opened when required, they make great options to carry while working on jobs.

b. Telescopic Ladders

These types of ladders are usually light, but they come in a variety of sizes and lengths. What's different about this option is its ability to extend and collapse easily, making it a compact choice for storage.

Telescopic ladders usually have a click and lock feature at each rung so that each part you extend is safely held together in place. Since they are collapsible, they are especially useful for working in a smaller or narrower location.

c. Extension Ladders

Extension ladders are not that different from telescopic ladders. The slight difference is that only two parts out of the entire ladder are movable. So, even when collapsed to the smallest size, they are much larger than their telescopic counterparts. On the plus side, the two parts can be separated and used for different purposes.

2. Height

The height is indisputably the most important feature for any ladder. If you can't reach the gutters because of a short ladder, it's never going to get clean, right? But when it comes to ladders, it really depends on the individual need.

Shorter ladders are fine for reaching one-story roofs, but buildings with two floors or more will need tall ladders reaching at least 20 feet. So, check the height of the ladder and see if it's the right fit for you.

3. Ladder Materials

Some products like ladders need to be 100% safe because falling from a ladder can cause grave injury and even death. So, there's no doubt that the ladder should be made of the best quality materials and should last long without bending or losing shape.

The most common ladder you'll find is made of aluminum, but fiberglass and steel are also seen often. Industries make use of steel ladders, but for home use, an aluminum option should be acceptable. However, if you are looking for a highly durable ladder, fiberglass would be a better option. It is heat and weather resistant making it a reliable choice for outdoor use.

4. Weight/Portability

Don't make the mistake of buying a ladder without checking its weight. The last thing you want is a ladder too heavy to carry to and from locations. If you are going to use the ladder often or intend to take it to work, it will make sense to invest in a lighter model.

But the ladder should not be flimsy either; after all, safety is the most important factor if you're going to climb to such great heights.

5. Load Capacity

Most ladders will have a ladder rating by American National Standards Institute (ANSI). For example, IAA ladders have a load capacity of 375 pounds. This might be the largest amount ladders can handle, and you can check this before settling on one ladder. The lightest ladders, type III ladders, have a load capacity of only 200 pounds, so select one that suits your requirement.

6. Stability And Performance

If you have the opportunity to see the ladder before purchasing, I'd recommend a few specific things to check. Take a close look at the rungs, ladder steps, and joints. Poorly constructed aluminum or steel ladders may look strong but will wobble once you use them.

Also, note that ladders that contain pop rivets at joints tend to spoil faster than solid rivet joints. If you are in doubt, test it out. Climb the ladder to the topmost rung and see if it stays in place without moving.

Does it wobble with each step? Do your feet slip when you step on each rung? After all, you can't afford to compromise on safety just to save a few dollars.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Where Should I Place The Ladder While Cleaning Gutters?

The best position for the ladder begins with placing it flat on the ground so that it does not move. Make sure you maintain a proper distance from the surface where the other part of the ladder will rest. The angle is the most critical part because there will be extra pressure on the ladder if that is shallow.

Q2. How Tall A Ladder Should I Buy For Cleaning Gutters?

I would recommend buying a ladder not shorter than 11 feet. However, this heavily depends on the kind of building you are working on. A house with two floors will need a 15-feet ladder, no less. The taller ladders that are 15-feet and above will be available as extension ladders which can reach up to 20 or 22-feet.

My Final Recommendation

So, here I reach the end of my review-based guide for the best ladder for cleaning gutters. Although all the carefully selected options are effective, I do have a personal favorite. The No products found. by Bowoshen was by far the best ladder I came across. This option was light enough to carry to and from yet had the sturdiness you need in a tall ladder.

Besides this, the 15426-001 model by Little Giant Ladder Systems is a noteworthy option. It is one of the tallest ladders with a multi-position feature allowing one to use it in different forms.

I hope this information helped you decide the perfect choice for yourself. I’ll see you next time, bye!
