Homelite weed eaters are undoubtedly among the most pragmatic and budget-friendly lawn care equipment on the market.
And given, there aren’t too many alternatives to such efficient string weed eaters in a similar price range, it’s best to keep your product strung and out on the deck. That’s why in this guide, I’ll be telling you how to string a Homelite weed eater in a matter of minutes.
So, if you are ready, let’s begin.
How To String A Homelite Weed Eater
Follow these steps to string your Homelite weed eater successfully:
1. Unplug The Weed Eater
Before proceeding with the process, ensure that you have unplugged the weed eater to avoid mishaps. Then lay the product on an even surface with the head facing you.
2. Remove The Spool Retainer
Next, tightly grab the two tabs on either side of the weed eater head and press them together. This will ensure that the spool retainer is freed and enable you to pull it out off the weed eater head. Remove the line spool and pluck out any old string that may be there.
3. Prepare The Strings
Now, it’s time to prepare the strings. Untangle about 12’ of the line from the box and cut them into two identical 6’ lengths using sharp scissors. We highly recommend cutting the string at an angle to form a point. This makes it more convenient to insert it into the holes in the spool retainer.
4. Wind The Two Lengths Separately
You’ll find the spool retainer divided into a lower and upper part by a plastic divider and an anchor hole in the hub of each section. Insert a string into an anchor hole and make sure that you wind it around the hub in the same direction as the arrows on the spool retainer rim.
Ideally, leave about 6” at the end and then feed into the groove on the rim to hold it.
Repeat the process with the other string. When you are done, be sure to feed the line across the groove in the plastic divider and attach it to the groove on the other side of the rim.
5. Replace The Spool Retainer
Next, you have to feed the ends of the two strings across the holes in the weed eater head and set the spool retainer back in place on the hole inside the head. Orient the cover of the retainer so that the tabs align with the grooves on the weed eater head, and then press it down until it sits properly in place.
6. Pull The Strings
Lastly, grab both ends of the strings and pull them outward until you feel them unsnap from the grooves. And you’re done!
Final Thoughts
So, that was the entire process of stringing a Homelite weed eater.
Ensure that you wear goggles while operating the product for the first time as the cut pieces of the strings will fly around, which could hit you on the face. With that last piece of advice, it’s time to wrap it up.
Until next time, stay safe!
