How To Inflate Tubeless Lawn Mower Tire

If you have ridden a lawnmower, you know that a flat tire can be a real hassle.

Not only can it affect the traction, but it can also put undue pressure on the engine, making it use more fuel. That’s why you should immediately resolve the issue.

So, when my nephew asked me, “how to inflate a tubeless lawn mower tire?” I thought of curating this short guide to help my readers as well.

How To Inflate A Tubeless Lawn Mower Tire?

Step 1

First and foremost, you need to understand the reason behind the punctured tire, as this will determine your course of action. Start by conducting a visual inspection to see if it has been punctured by any sharp object or fallen off the rim. If yes, then the tire should be repaired before being inflated.

Otherwise, attach a pressure gauge to the valve stem of the tire to get an accurate pressure reading and see if it’s in the range. Most mowers have the manufacturer’s recommended range mentioned on the side of the tire, but if you can’t find it, then check the instruction manual. Then simply use an air compressor to fill the tire with pressurized air as required.

Step 2 (Optional)

If the tire has been deflated due to a sharp object, then you will first need to identify the exact location of the puncture. For this, pour some soap solution on the suspected area, and if you see air bubbles forming, then the tire is losing air from that spot.

Grab a bottle of tire sealant, open the cap of the valve stem, and attach the sealant hose to the lid of the sealant bottle. Connect the free end of the hose to the valve stem and squeeze the bottle to “pour” the sealant inside the tire.

Once the required amount has been poured, remove the hose and attach an air compressor to fill the tire with air. This will distribute the sealant evenly, thereby sealing the puncture or the hole. Remove the sharp object only after this step.

Step 3 (Optional)

Old tubeless tires often lose air when they come off the rim, but there’s a way to fix this problem. Firstly, take a wire, cord, or a rope with a loop around it and wrap it tightly around the tread area. Now, insert a screwdriver (or small metal rod), insert the loop, and rotate it, which will, in turn, twist the wire.

Continue doing this until you see the tire being pushed against the rim and eventually “settling in.” With the rope still twisted around the tread, use the compressor to fill the tire with air.

Final Words

I hope that my guide has helped you understand how to inflate the tubeless tire of your lawnmower in different situations.

As a pro tip, I’d suggest keeping a sealant handy for emergencies. Most sealant bottles state the quantity to be used for different tire sizes, so make sure you follow it while fixing the tire. Likewise, ensure that you don’t overfill the tire with air, as it can cause it to burst.

And lastly, replace the tire if the tread is completely worn out or leaks air even after you have used a sealant.

I’ll see you next time. Till then, bye!
