An Overview Of John Deere Lawn Products

A Brief History Of John Deere

The company has a very rich history that dates back to the 1800s. John Deere was a blacksmith at the time who wanted to make a name for himself as the economy began to boom. He made his way to Grand Detour, Illinois, and was later joined by his wife and children.

After setting up a small blacksmith’s shop, he noticed the farmers around him suffering due to a lack of quality farming products. This is how the first steel plow was created way back in 1837. As it started gaining traction, there was a need to expand the company.

10 years and innumerable plows later, he moved the company to a bigger location and expanded the product catalog. By this time, he was joined by his second son, Charles Deere. It was around this time that John Deere manufactured the first ride-on plow - the Hawkeye Riding Cultivator.

Charles Deere helped build the business after his father’s demise, and because of him, the company had five successful branches within 20 years. Despite being hit during The Great Depression, Charles found a way to make millions in sales.

By 1910, John Deere was producing all sorts of equipment which made farming activities easier. Other names behind the company’s success are William Butterworth (Charles’ son-in-law) and ex-president of the company, William Hewitt.

From the 1960s to the 2000s, the company grew by leaps and bounds, exploring and conquering the world of forestry equipment. It released many successful products that allowed farmers to operate equipment safely and increase their productivity by at least 80%.

Nothing Runs Like A Deere

After a ton of success in the forestry department, John Deere began producing products that could be used in residential spaces and by the everyday person. The first popular piece of equipment, in this case, was helmets.

In 1978, the tagline “Nothing Runs Like a Deere” came into being to advertise snowmobile helmets the company was manufacturing at the time. At first, it was only for the helmets, but since it was successful marketing, the slogan stuck around for all the products.

By this time, the company had already gained some loyal customers through their lawn equipment. This is why there was a market for snowmobile equipment too. And although the company stopped manufacturing the snowmobiles, it kept the tagline going. This slogan had grown on people as it became a guarantee for excellence and helped generate better sales.

What Does John Deere Manufacture?

After years of manufacturing a variety of products, John Deere has become a leading name for farm and lawn equipment. For people that are passionate about maintaining their yard, these lawn tractors and mowers are an ideal buy. John Deere offers a wide range, and each one is as good as the next.

One great thing I noticed on the website is that it has a questionnaire at the end of every product page. It is added to help pick a product in each range that accurately fits your needs, making the buying process easier and less time-consuming. However, the Z500 series of mowers and lawn tractors in the 200 series are highly recommended.

That’s not all; if you are looking for something more commercial, it also manufactures compact tractors. These feature a bucket or fork to help deal with bigger loads and are incredibly user-friendly. In addition, John Deere manufactures XUVs and utility vehicles for people who need a reliable vehicle on the job.

Speaking of commercial products, the company has a ton of equipment for construction like dozers, wheel loaders, dump trucks, backhoes, etc. In a nutshell, John Deere has something for everyone, and it’s all effortless to find. Look for the “Find a dealer” section on the website to find the closest location.

Is It Worth The Price?

There are many lawn tractors and mowers in the market right now, yet the name John Deere stands out. The brand has a range of products for residential and commercial use that are powerful and long-lasting. All the equipment it manufactures, especially the lawnmowers, are made keeping in mind the user’s comfort and safety.

From my personal experience of using the zero-turn lawn mower (Z300 series), I can say with conviction that I was impressed. I thought I was buying an overpriced machine, but I do not regret this buy after having used mine for more than 10 years. Moreover, there are many reviews by satisfied customers who share the same view as mine.

The most important thing here is that you do not have to be an expert with the equipment. Everything they manufacture is easy to use and can be operated by anybody, thanks to the simple instructions. It has its quirks, but overall, it is an excellent brand for your lawn needs.

Final Words

With John Deere still in the game, it is impossible not to find what you are looking for. They even have a “build a product” option, which guarantees a product of your liking. Having endured a lot and starting with just a steel plow, this brand has come a long way.

On that note, I shall end this overview on John Deere products. I hope it has been an informative read and will help you decide if you want to trust the brand or not. I’ll be back soon with many more such overviews.

Until next time!
