Let’s not waste any more time and get into the thick of things.

Overview Of Troy-Bilt Lawn Products

A Brief History Of Troy-Bilt

Troy-Bilt has a history that goes back to over 80 years, and the beginnings of the brand can be traced back to the early 1930s. The brand’s journey to today started with C.W. Kelsey, an innovator and business pioneer who set the ball rolling for this company.

In 1930, Kelsey was then the owner of the Kelsey Automobile Company. However, with the coming of the Great Depression, businesses all over the US shrank. Homeowners were looking to save more and become self-sufficient when it came to food production.

As a result, home gardening and vegetable farming were gaining traction all over the country. People were trying to grow their own food, and for that, they needed equipment that made garden farming easier and more productive.

In such a situation, one of Kelsey’s former employees, H.B. Hiller, introduced him to Siemens Rotary Tillers. Quickly understanding its potential, Kelsey became a distributor for it and established Rototiller Inc. in Long Island.

While continuing to distribute the Siemens products, Kelsey started to create his own modifications and obtained patents for the same. Soon he was selling his line of tillers under the Rototiller brand.

From Rototiller To Troy-Bilt

By 1937, Rototiller Inc. moved to Troy, New York, after getting an investment from New York businessman George B. Cluett. Kelsey continued to release new and improved models every year till he retired in 1957.

After changing hands a few times as a publicly traded business, Rototiller changed its name to Watco Machine Products, Inc. and began to market its tillers via mail order. However, their latest product, the Trojan Horse, soon ran into a trademark dispute lawsuit, which Watco lost.

Under the need to rename its brand as fast as possible, Watco decided to pay homage to its origins in Troy, New York and trademarked the brand name Troy-Bilt. The brand soon gained traction and became a well-known name in the gardening industry all over the US.

Currently, Troy-Bilt operates out of its headquarters in Valley City, Ohio. All Troy-Bilt products are designed and manufactured in the US. So, if you’re a Troy-Bilt user, you can rest assured that you’re using all-American technology to make your lawns better.

Troy-Bilt is one of the industry leaders when it comes to lawn care equipment. But the company hasn't stopped just there; it has expanded itself to serve other related niches. And that’s what I’m going to explore in the next section.

What Products Does The Brand Manufacture?

Although Troy-Bilt started operations as a rotary tiller manufacturer, the brand has enhanced its line of products. Apart from Tillers and Cultivators, it also manufactures and sells Lawn and Garden Tractors, Push Mowers, Self-Propelled Mowers, and Wide Area Mowers.

But if you’re under the impression that it's a mower specialist, you’d be wrong. Troy-Bilt has a complete collection of yard tools such as String Trimmers, Leaf Blowers, and Edgers. In case you’re looking for tree care products, the brand has you covered there as well with its line of Chainsaws, Log Splitters, Chipper Shredders, and Vacs.

For those of you who are worried about how to take care of your lawn during the winter months, Troy-Bilt is the brand to turn to. Its range of single, two, and three-stage Snow Blowers can help you get rid of the snow from your garden quickly.

Apart from the above equipment, Troy-Bilt sells attachments for its lawnmowers and snow blowers. It also provides spare parts for its products and has service centers spread all over the US. I visited their service center page and found it easy to contact the center closest to my location.

Is The Quality Worth The Price?

As a brand that’s entirely born and brought up in the US, Troy-Bilt is the preferred choice of many homeowners. It offers reliable products at affordable prices, and you can expect the equipment to last for years with the right amount of maintenance and care.

During my research, I’ve found that of all the products the brand offers, the lawnmowers and snow blowers are the most popular with consumers. Most customer reviews I’ve come across are from genuinely satisfied buyers, and I can also say from personal experience that Troy-Bilt is undoubtedly a brand worth the price tag.

The brand gives off a modern and powerful vibe with its range of rugged products in terms of design. Overall, I think I can safely say that when it comes to gardening equipment, Troy-Bilt is certainly a brand to reckon with.

Final Words

Troy-Bilt has come a long way from its early beginnings as the creator of the Rototiller to the industry leader it has become today. Despite a bit of financial trouble at the turn of the century, this American brand has endured the test of time.

I hope the above overview will help you make a better decision when deciding whether to go with Troy-Bilt products or not. And I’ll be back again soon with more such brand overviews to help you out further.

Till then, stay safe and keep on gardening!
