There’s no doubt that one of the most important parts of exercising is your feet. So, it is crucial that you wear the right shoes.

When you are exercising, particularly training, there should be no compromise on quality and performance. I have used Vans shoes for skateboarding since I was a kid. And my children have carried forward this tradition of wearing a Vans pair when they participate in sports or during exercise.

As a beginner, I always felt it is good to start with a budget pair of shoes before moving on to customized, more expensive ones. And Vans are cut out for users who need this.

So, when I got a couple of questions from my readers asking if Vans shoes are suitable for lifting, I thought of curating this guide. Hi! I am Stacy Smith, and today I will tell you all the reasons I prefer wearing Vans during my exercise routines. This would help you determine whether you should consider buying a pair.

Without any further delay, let’s dive right in!

Whether a particular pair of shoes is suitable for lifting or not is determined by a range of factors. And in this section, I will discuss a few of these factors that will help you understand if Vans shoes are good when you’re lifting weights.

1. The Sole Quality

Imagine wearing a pair of shoes that keeps slipping when you are in the gym. That’s not nice, is it? When hitting the gym, I always make sure that I choose shoes that come with anti-slip soles. And Vans shoes are great in this regard.

My children love the honeycomb zero-slip sole variant that they prefer wearing while performing their squats and deadlift exercises. The soles in their shoes are not only non-slip but are also pretty firm and flat, making them perfect for exercising.  Likewise, the grip on offer is nothing short of impressive.

However, it is good to remember that the sole is not as firm as those present in converse shoes. That said, you will still experience a commendable training response, as the flat sole enhances the reaction force.

2. Durability

Did you know that Vans was actually created to be used primarily by skating enthusiasts? People who have skateboarded during their childhood, there’s a good chance that you have owned a pair or two of Vans before.

To cut the long story short, Vans was designed keeping in mind the convenience of users. Even when you wear it during a sport where the shoes have to endure considerable opposing force, rest assured that they will not get damaged.

So, you can easily conclude that if you use it for simpler purposes such as weight lifting, the shoes will last even longer. Moreover, they will add more speed and agility to your standard exercise module.

3. The Zero-Drop Feature

If you don’t know what zero-drop is, let me break it down for you. Simply put, this feature creates an absence of the “drop” present in the sole from the heel to the toe. Lifters dig this advantage, as it enables them to achieve excellent stability by ensuring that the positioning of the feet stays firm, and Vans has been specializing in this design since the 1960s.

So, when I am doing my squat exercises, the shoes make it very easy for me to maintain balance. Hence, I can say with conviction that Vans are a great option for activities which require stability and control.

4. Breathability

When I plan on wearing a pair for a long time, comfort is very crucial for me. And when wearing Vans shoes, I don’t usually have any complaints in this regard. All their collections are constructed out of high-quality canvas, which is very similar to woven fabric.

This adds a rustic feel to the overall design, which I absolutely love. Besides, it keeps my feet from sweating and locked in while offering ample flexibility in movement. In fact, it is this material that prevents the interior of the shoes from heating up when I exercise for prolonged periods.

So, go ahead and perform your lifts wearing them! I am sure you will have a great time while you are at it.

5. Variety

Vans shoes offer a great deal of versatility, and I can assure you there’s one for everybody. If you like high-top shoes that reach the ankle, you will find those in their collection. Similarly, the low-top variants are great for maintaining posture and offer a good deal of flexibility.

The availability of both these types help you make the right pick without running from store to store. Choose one depending on the types of exercise you perform and the style you prefer.

6. Affordability

If you too hate postponing exercise schedules because of budget constraints like me, then Vans shoes are your best bet. These shoes are pretty cost-effective and won’t burn a hole in your pocket. They are good to start with and are also a great option if you lift only occasionally.

Final Words

Skateboarding or not, Vans is an excellent option for exercising!

When you are lifting weight, keep in mind that the feet are incredibly crucial as they maintain grip and stability. So, to answer the question that I started with- are Vans shoes good for lifting? I would say that they definitely are. I always rely on them during my weekly lifting sessions, and they have never failed me.

They are a lot better than regular running shoes and more cost-effective than the ones made specifically for lifting weight. For casual lifters like me, they work really great.

With that, I am going to wrap up this guide. If you have any further questions, feel free to write to me in the comments section below.

Until next time, adios!
