Best Egg Incubator

Is it difficult to hatch healthy chickens artificially at home? Well, not if you use a quality egg incubator.

Recently, I had been on the lookout for an egg incubator as I was planning to get into poultry farming. And why not? After all, I am a retired school teacher, and raising chickens in my yard seemed like fun and, more importantly, a sustainable investment. However, choosing the right model seemed quite challenging, with so many options available on the market.

Confused, I called my friend Kevin, a poultry farmer, when he suggested a few top-quality egg incubators. As you would imagine, I tried each of them to ensure that I got the desired results.

Hi! I am Stacy, and today I will be sharing my five recommendations to help you choose the best egg incubator on the market. Without further chit-chat, let’s jump right in!

Top 5 Egg Incubators

1. Magicfly Auto Egg Incubator

Magicfly Auto Egg Incubator

Let me start this list with a great product from the house of Magicfly, a well-known egg incubator brand. Equipped with various practical features like an auto thermometer, it is a reliable choice for anyone who is willing to learn the process of egg incubation.

Product Highlights

Durable and easy to use, this item from Magicfly can hatch eggs from a range of birds, including grease, fowl, ducks, and chickens.

In addition to that, it features an automatic egg turner that enables the product to turn the eggs by itself without any sort of manual assistance. Note that the product turns the eggs quite slowly, and the process is not visible to the naked eye.

Another thing that I liked was the build quality of this egg incubator. While it has a simple design, it has been made with durable materials to ensure that it can withstand frequent use with ease.

You will also be pleased to know that it can fit up to 12 eggs and can hatch most of them without any issues. Last but not least, it sports an affordable price tag, which naturally makes it a top choice among many customers.

What’s There To Like About It?

First and foremost, the budget-friendly pricing of the product deserves mention. Even though it has been priced economically, I was pleased to find that the manufacturers didn’t skimp on any important feature, like the automatic temperature control. Now, that makes it a value-for-money purchase.

I also liked that it can hatch eggs of many different birds, including goose, parrot, and dove. The best part is that it comes in a PP+ABS construction, saving you from the trouble of maintenance while guaranteeing safety for proper incubation.

What’s There Not To Like About It?

This product is undoubtedly one of the best in the business, especially considering its affordable price tag and durable build quality. That said, I was a bit disappointed to find out that it doesn’t come with any humidity settings. If required, you will have to add a separate hygrometer inside and manually tweak the humidity.

Pros and Cons of Magicfly Auto Egg Incubator

Pros

  • Sports an affordable price tag
  • Made with durable materials
  • Easy to use
  • Ideal for learning the basics of egg incubation

Cons

  • Does not have any humidity settings
Magicfly Mini Egg Incubators for Hatching Eggs, with Automatic Egg Turning, 9-12 Eggs Hatching Incubator for Chickens, Ducks, Goose, Birds
  • Easy to Use: Magicfly egg incubator is easy to set up and use. Just press + or - to reach your desired temperature. This incubator brings a much more stable temperature for your eggs and thus improves hatch rate.
  • Durable and Reliable: Made of durable healthy PP+ABS material, this simple and reliable egg incubator is fun for families that want to start incubating chickens, ducks, geese, quail, etc. The easy design and functions allow kids to learn the basics of incubating eggs.
  • Automatic Egg Turning: The auto turner can save the time you need to spend babysitting the eggs. (Kindly note that it is invisible to see the turner work, but it did turn and work, And you don't need to turn the eggs manually.)

3. KEBONNIXS Egg Incubator

KEBONNIXS Egg Incubator

Next up, I have this egg incubator from the brand KEBONNIXS, which is an excellent choice for hatching eggs hassle-free. Customers from across the country have praised this product for its pragmatic features, including an auto-stop egg turner and external water top-up.

Product Highlights

Upon unboxing, what caught my attention was the external water top-up. This feature allows you to pour water into the incubator without opening its lid to avoid causing temperature fluctuations.

On top of that, it comes with modern temperature prediction and tracking technology, providing accurate temperature control, unlike other ordinary incubators with conventional thermostats. That, combined with the automatic egg turner that rolls the eggs gently every hour, helps improve the hatch rate. The built-in timer allows you to keep track of this process so that you know how many days are remaining for the chicks to appear.

I also liked that it automatically stops turning eggs three days before the hatch day to prevent excess turning and causing damage to the eggs. Understandably, it is one of the highest-rated egg incubators on the market.

What’s There To Like About It?

For me, the best part about this product is that it displays the humidity level. You don’t have to spend a hefty amount to buy a hygrometer separately to keep track of the humidity level inside the incubator.

And since it comes with a pragmatic external water top-up, you won’t have to open the lid every time you want to pour water into it. Plus, with its induced airflow system, the fan creates a strong circulation so that there are no temperature fluctuations.

What’s There Not To Like About It?

Unfortunately, this incubator cannot hold large eggs like the Magicfly Auto Egg Incubator, which is why I’ve ranked it second on this list. Other than that, I was not too fond of the packaging material used for the product. It was fragile and did not offer enough protection, leaving a few scratches on the incubator, which was annoying, to say the least.

Pros and Cons of KEBONNIXS Egg Incubator

Pros

  • Available at a reasonable price
  • Offers a high hatch rate
  • Can hatch eggs of various birds
  • Provides accurate temperature control

Cons

  • Poor packaging
KEBONNIXS 12 Egg Incubator with Humidity Display, Egg Candler, Automatic Egg Turner, for Hatching Chickens
  • ★【STABLE TEMPERATURE】- Induced airflow system drived by a strong circulating fan for a stable incubator temperature distribution
  • ★【DISPLAY HUMIDITY LEVEL】- No need to buy additional hygrometer to monitor incubator humidity level
  • ★【BUILT-IN EGG CANDLER】- No need to buy additional egg candler to observe the development of eggs

3. Harris Farms Nurture Right 360

Harris Farms Nurture Right 360

Harris Farms has been serving customers with top-grade poultry supplies for over three decades, and the Nurture Right 360 is yet another notable addition to its egg incubator repertoire. With a 22-egg capacity and 360° induced airflow, this product can be your perfect companion for hatching large batches of eggs.

Product Highlights

I must single out the design as the main highlight of the product, as it boasts a clear top with all-round visibility, making it an ideal choice for educational observation. It also has the automatic egg turner feature, like our previous two picks, which simplifies the incubation process and helps increase the hatch rate.

Moving on, it comes with the auto-stop feature that prevents it from turning eggs three days before the hatching day to avoid causing complications. Now, as far as the egg capacity is concerned, you will be pleased to know that it can hold up to 22 eggs at a time, which is exceptional.

I liked that it is compatible with the US electrical outlets, which means that your product will connect to any outlet just fine no matter which state you reside in. Finally, it’s worth mentioning that it comes with an external water pot so that you can easily add water to the incubator without opening its lid.

What’s There To Like About It?

What I enjoyed about this device are its numerous features, such as the air vent and built-in LED, providing greater convenience even for first-time poultry breeders. You can plug it in to any 12V socket or adapter while adjusting the humidity settings with the knob.

Also worth praising is the 360-degree clear view design of the product, as it allows you to observe the chicks hatching for educational purposes. Let me tell you that it can hatch the eggs of various birds, including chickens, pheasants, and even ducks.

What’s There Not To Like About It?

You should know that it comes with an expensive price tag, so it might not be the ideal choice for those on a humble budget. And while the product hatches most of the eggs, I felt the hatch rate of the KEBONNIXS model is a tad higher, which makes the latter a slightly superior option.

Pros and Cons of Harris Farms Nurture Right 360

  • Can hatch eggs of various birds
  • Ideal choice for educational purposes
  • Provides optimal air circulation

4. Farm Innovators 4250 Digital Incubator

Farm Innovators 4250 Digital Incubator

My friend, Kevin, suggested this 4250 digital incubator from Farm Innovators because of its fast heating capacity and ease of use. I must say I was quite intrigued upon hearing about its features, which is why I thought of giving it a try. Let me tell you more about it in the following few sections.

Product Highlights

It sports a heavy-duty plastic shell that protects the eggs and the incubator from mishaps for safely hatching chicks. You can also take it apart and clean it in between hatches to offer a healthy and dirt-free incubating environment for the eggs.

What’s more, it is made with planet-friendly and recycled materials, which I am sure, is no less than a bonus for eco-conscious customers. Another thing that I particularly loved about this product was its large picture window that offers a 360-degree view of the incubation process. Thus, it is a great option to educate your children about the life cycle of chickens.

This digital incubator can fit up to 41 standard eggs, which is, of course, great. But especially pleasing is the deep bottom tray that can accommodate large goose and duck eggs, making it an instant hit among poultry farmers.

What’s There To Like About It?

You can manage the environment in the incubator without opening it, thanks to the fill water channels. Plus, the product features a dedicated fan that constantly circulates air inside the incubator to maintain the humidity and temperature.

I also loved the digital display that shows the days-to-hatch, humidity, and temperature at all times, unlike the displays on other ordinary incubators that provide limited information. You even get low and high notifications if the temperature fluctuates to quickly make adjustments.

What’s There Not To Like About It?

According to many disgruntled customers, it has a lower hatching success rate than other options, which is indeed quite disappointing. It is also more expensive than the Magicfly Auto Egg Incubator and KEBONNIXS Egg Incubator, so it might not be a good value-for-money purchase.

Pros and Cons of Farm Innovators 4250 Digital Incubator

Pros

  • Durable build quality
  • Can accommodate large eggs with ease
  • Eco-friendly
  • Digital display shows all the required information

Cons

  • Low hatching rate

  • Eliminates manual handling for up to 41 eggs and deep bottom tray to accommodate even large duck and goose chicken incubators for hatching eggs

5. HBlife Egg Incubator

HBlife Egg Incubator

There is no way I would have concluded this list without including this egg incubator from HBlife. Affordable yet loaded with premium features like automatic turning, this product can help hatch eggs with the least amount of trouble. Sounds interesting? Then keep reading to know more.

Product Highlights

The most advantageous feature of this product has to be its build quality. Not only is it made with durable material, but it has also undergone stringent CE tests to ensure that it is in line with the essential safety and health requirements.

It comes with an automatic egg-turning feature to simulate a natural hatch and increase the hatch rate. Beyond that, I was impressed with the intuitive and clear digital display providing accurate temperature readings, allowing me to keep an eye on the incubation process without opening the incubator.

Also, it is one of the most compactly-shaped incubators, so you can rest assured that it won’t take up much space in your house. From chickens and owls to quails and geese, it can hatch eggs from several types of birds.

Even more pleasing is that it is available at an incredibly economical price point, which gives it an edge over other expensive yet ordinary incubators.

What’s There To Like About It?

I will have to commend the manufacturer for the durable construction, featuring a PC+ABS material design. The product also has a year of warranty, and users don’t have to incur additional expenses for replacing or repairing it.

It doesn’t take up much space, proving suitable for a small table, and with the thermostat settings, it is possible to guarantee that the embryos will be healthy. Most importantly, the model is easy to clean and prepare for the next batch of eggs.

What’s There Not To Like About It?

Unfortunately, the temperature readings of this incubator are in celsius, which could be an inconvenience for consumers. Another thing that I didn’t like about it is that it can accommodate only up to nine eggs, unlike the Farm Innovators 4250 Digital Incubator. The latter can accommodate up to 41 eggs, which is why I have ranked it higher than this model.

Pros and Cons of HBlife Egg Incubator

Pros

  • Sturdy PC+ABS construction
  • Comes at an incredibly economical price
  • Has an intuitive and clear digital display
  • Backed by a one-year warranty

Cons

  • Can accommodate only nine eggs

Buyers Guide

Now that you have gone through the top five recommendations for egg incubators, I believe that a buyer’s guide will help you make an informed decision. This section has discussed all the important factors that you need to keep in mind when buying an egg incubator, so there’s no problem selecting the right unit.

1. Price

You would obviously want to purchase a product that’s well within your budget. Digital incubators that come with automation features, like humidity regulation and egg turning, tend to be more expensive than the normal ones, but they save you time and hassle.

On the contrary, many people love to do things on their own and want to be involved throughout the incubation process, so they might go with a manual model. You need to choose what would work best, depending on your commitment level and circumstances.

That said, I always recommend going with digital incubators as they are more efficient and have a higher hatch rate. Note that all the egg incubators I have reviewed are digital and come with automated features.

This means that you may have to pay slightly more, which is fine in my opinion because compromising on quality isn’t an option.

2. Temperature And Humidity Management

When buying an egg incubator, decide how you would prefer to measure and manage the temperature and humidity. While some modern incubators feature auto humidity pumps, others require you to use methods such as channels, pots, and sponges.

It is also worth noting that not all egg incubators feature a thermometer. So, go through the product description section carefully before placing the order; otherwise, you might have to make additional purchases to manage the temperature and humidity inside the incubator.

3. Storage

It is crucial to store the incubator in a safe space to increase the hatch rate. Make sure that you are purchasing an incubator that would fit on a small table or in the room of your choice. You would also want to ensure that it is easy to clean to create a healthy environment for the eggs inside the incubator.

4. Build Quality

Most people tend to overlook the build quality of the incubator, but it is as important as the other factors. This is because a stronger build quality will ensure that the product can withstand external elements to keep the eggs safe while serving you for years to come.

Thus, never hesitate to shell out extra dough to go for a product with a more durable and sturdy build quality.

5. Display

Top-quality incubators always feature a digital display that shows things like the humidity and the temperature inside the incubator. These displays help you keep an eye on the settings without taking off the lid and causing temperature fluctuations. Hence, it’s essential that your preferred incubator has such a display.

6. Number Of Eggs

Before zeroing in on an egg incubator, ask yourself how many eggs you would like to hatch at a time. As you know, egg incubators come in various shapes and sizes, and while some could hatch 10-12 eggs at once, others can hatch up to 40 eggs.

Choose a unit based on your requirement and the size of your yard. You want to be sure that you will be able to provide enough room for the chicks.

It is also worth noting that, more often than not, the hatch rate of incubators is not 100%. In simple words, there are bound to be a few eggs in the batch that will not hatch.

I urge you to go through the customer reviews and specifically search for the “hatch rate” before purchasing a unit. This will give you an idea of how many eggs that particular product is likely to hatch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here, I have answered some of the most commonly asked questions regarding egg incubators to help clear your queries.

Q1. What is the perfect temperature to hatch eggs in an incubator?

The ideal temperature for hatching eggs is 100.5° Fahrenheit. Obviously, no egg incubator is entirely perfect, but as long as you maintain the temperature between 99° and 102° Fahrenheit, the eggs should be fine.

Q2. How long does it take for chicken eggs to hatch?

It takes about 21 days for a fertilized chicken egg to hatch. If an egg doesn’t hatch within that time period, remove it from the incubator.

My Final Recommendation

There you have it; that was my guide on the best egg incubator, and hopefully, it has helped you choose the right model according to your needs.

However, if you are still unsure which product to go with, stick around for a couple of more minutes as I let you in on my favorites from the list. In my opinion, the Magicfly Auto Egg Incubator is the overall best simply because it is affordable and easy to use.

The KEBONNIXS model is also a great choice as it can hatch eggs of different birds and has a high hatch rate compared to the other options on this list. But if you are looking for a product that offers top-notch air circulation to optimize the incubation process, I strongly recommend going with the Harris Farms Nurture Right 360

That’s all for today. Until next time, take care!
