Top Five Shoes For Factory Work

1. Skechers Work Sneaker

Skechers Work Sneaker

Skechers is among the most famous brands known for producing high-quality athletic and lifestyle apparel and footwear for the entire family. But most people do not know that it offers footwear designed for professional needs, such as this impressive work sneaker.

Product Highlights

The Skechers work sneaker has many features that make it an outstanding option for wearing to the factory, the first being the build quality. Built from high-quality suede and mesh, this shoe is meant to protect the feet properly from all sorts of workplace hazards.

It has a synthetic sole that provides proper support irrespective of the type of work that needs to be performed. This is combined with the memory foam padding that offers superb cushioning by adjusting itself according to the contours of your feet. So, it won't get uncomfortable even if you spend the whole day standing.

Apart from that, this shoe comes with a steel toe that has been tested independently and certified to meet the ASTM F2413-2011, 1/75 C/75 standards. This means that these shoes are fairly resistant to impacts and compression and can help reduce factory-related risks.

What's There To Like About It?

I was impressed by the manufacturer's effort to ensure maximum protection for the wearer. In addition to the ASTM F2413-2011, 1/75 C/75 standards, these shoes from Skechers meet the ASTM F2413-2011 EH requirements. This means they offer excellent protection against electrical hazards, thanks to the secondary layer that keeps them insulated against contact with electrical objects.

Additionally, it offers resistance against disruptive discharge in the ground, minimizing the chances of electrical accidents.

What's There Not To Like About It?

While the Skechers footwear offers some remarkable safety features and is comfortable to wear, it does miss out on one thing. This shoe does not have slip resistance, so you should keep that in mind before purchasing. It may not be the best option for workplaces with fluids running across the floor, such as in a machine shop.

Pros and Cons of Skechers Work Sneaker

Pros

  • Durable build
  • Very comfortable
  • Meets safety standards
  • Versatile

Cons

  • Not slip resistant
Skechers Men's Work Cankton Steel Toe Construction Shoe, Black/Charcoal, 11
  • WORKPLACE SAFETY CERTIFIED: Steel safety toe meets ASTM F2413 impact and compression standards for work boots for men, plus Electrical Hazard (EH) safe design protection
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT DESIGN: Memory Foam cushioned insole and roomy Relaxed Fit design make these work shoes for men perfect for long shifts
  • DURABLE CONSTRUCTION: High-abrasion duraleather upper with mesh panels provides durability and breathability in these non slip work shoes for men

2. Keen Utility Work Shoe

Keen Utility Work Shoe

If you're looking for a shoe from a brand that exclusively designs footwear for industrial purposes, then this pair from Keen Utility can be a fantastic choice. It provides superior comfort and incredible support for the best experience while working.

Product Highlights

With so many impressive features, it was quite hard for me to know where to start with these work shoes. Designed for all types of environments, these are made from premium quality waterproof leather and mesh, which prevents them from getting damaged even after coming into contact with fluids. Likewise, the sole is made from rubber to provide better support on different surfaces.

Also, these multipurpose shoes can be worn for all types of jobs, including landscaping, construction, maintenance, transportation, and more. Plus, they can withstand a fair amount of rough usage for a reasonable period.

Another thing I'd like to point out is that these shoes come with a torsional stability shank, an important feature in footwear meant for rough or uneven terrain. It is a supportive structure between the insole and outsole that provides better rigidness and stability to the shoe.

What's There To Like About It?

These Keen Utility workplace shoes come with a mesh liner that promotes better breathability and helps keep your feet cool in warm conditions. This feature is generally missing in many workplace shoes, which is one reason why I liked these so much.

Apart from that, it comes with an Eva midsole that offers exceptional comfort for the countless hours you may need to spend standing up. It also has reflective webbing that makes the wearer visible even in low light conditions, providing additional safety.

What's There Not To Like About It?

While testing these shoes, I noticed that they are a bit on the heavier side. While this may provide additional stability, you will need time to get used to the weight. But after that, the weight becomes barely noticeable. However, these shoes were placed after the Skechers Work Shoes on this list because of this problem.

Pros and Cons of Keen Utility Work Shoe

Pros

  • Waterproof
  • Sturdy
  • Versatile
  • Breathable

Cons

  • Heavy
KEEN Utility Men's Atlanta Cool Low Height Breathable Steel Toe Work Shoes, Black/Dark Shadow, 13 2E (Wide) US

3. Cat Footwear Industrial Boot

Cat Footwear Industrial Boot

While also offering footwear for regular wear, Cat Footwear is best known for its range of high-quality work boots and shoes. That is why I decided to make this pair the next item on my list today.

Product Highlights

The Cat Footwear industrial boot features uppers made from full-grain leather, providing exceptional protection against workplace hazards and accidents. This material is abrasion resistant, due to which these boots are among the sturdiest that I've come across.

For better support, these come with a rubber sole that reduces the chances of falls and slips. This is further enhanced by the presence of the slip-resistant outsole, which will keep you stable on low traction surfaces. The outsole also exceeds ASTM standards to ensure the safety of the wearer.

Furthermore, these boots are a great option for those looking for a waterproof option since they come with seamed seals that ensure the best water protection. And then there is the flexible ERGO midsole, which is great at absorbing shocks and works much better than regular EVA for improving comfort.

What's There To Like About It?

Factory workers require protection from several types of hazards, and electrical hazards are among the most common. That's where these boots truly shine, as they come with the best electrical hazard protection rated to protect against open circuits up to 600 volts in dry conditions. This also helps them meet the ASTM F2413-05 1/75 EH standards for safety.

Plus, these shoes ensure breathability, so your feet remain cool while working for long hours, even in warm environments.

What's There Not To Like About It?

I'd like to point out that these industrial boots from Cat Footwear do not come with a steel toe, which can provide additional protection against impact and compression. These have soft toes like regular boots or shoes. Both of my previous picks - the Skechers Work Sneaker and the Keen Utility Work Shoe have steel toes and are hence placed before this item.

Pros and Cons of Cat Footwear Industrial Boot

Pros

  • Abrasion-resistant
  • Waterproof
  • Value for money
  • Sturdy

Cons

  • Lacks steel toe

4. Irish Setter Work Boot

Irish Setter Work Boot

Moving on to the next item on the list, I bring you the Irish Setter Work Boot, a highly compelling option that can be used for all types of factory work. The brand is among the leading manufacturers of hunting and pre-built work footwear.

Product Highlights

The Irish Setter brand has been offering work boots since 1950, which makes it one of the most experienced brands in the industry. And this is apparent when you get products like this work boot, which is made from full-grain waterproof leather and a removable polyurethane footbed.

Besides providing a high level of durability to the boots, this makes it easy to clean them and reduces the amount of maintenance required. Additionally, there is a heat-resistant outsole made from rubber-EVA traction tred, which is resistant to melting at a minimum of 475 degrees Fahrenheit.

Moreover, these boots have a protective heel and sole construction for electrical protection and meet the ASTM F2413-11, M/I/75/C/75 Safety Standards. This ensures maximum safety when working with or near electrical objects. And the front has inbuilt steel toes to keep your feet protected from accidents like falling objects.

What's There To Like About It?

Whether you have narrow or wide feet, the Irish Setter work boots offer the highest level of comfort at all times. Being made from well-crafted materials, they provide adequate cushioning while minimizing impact, eliminating discomfort, and minimizing fatigue. This also makes these boots ideal for people with flat feet

Apart from that, they are quite affordable and offer the best value for money despite coming from the famous Irish Setter brand.

What's There Not To Like About It?

Undoubtedly, the Irish Setter work boots offer a very high level of comfort and support. But keep in mind that these are not the most breathable of options, leading to an unpleasant odor once you take them off.

Previous options, including the Skechers Work Sneaker, Keen Utility Work Shoe, and Cat Footwear Industrial Boot, are all better in this respect.

Pros and Cons of Irish Setter Work Boot

Pros

  • Very comfortable
  • Heat resistant
  • Meets industry safety standards
  • Value for money

Cons

  • Not very breathable
Irish Setter, Ashby, Men's, 6", Aluminum Safety Toe, Work Boot, Brown, 14 D (Medium)

5. Suadex Steel Toe Shoes

Suadex Steel Toe Shoes

The next item I would like to share with you is these steel-toe shoes from Suadex, another reputable brand in the industry. These are developed for use in all environments, and are incredibly durable, making them ideal for work purposes.

Product Highlights

The Suadex brand has mastered the art of designing work shoes that offer the perfect combination of comfort and protection. They have a steel inserted construction that offers incredible support while you work and a padded collar with skin-friendly lining for comfort.

Similarly, the puncture-proof midsole is made from lightweight Kevlar that protects your feet from sharp objects and ensures safety. I also liked the breathable mesh, which allows proper air circulation for breathability and better temperature control.

Plus, there is the tire rubber outsole design, which, coupled with the high-quality build materials, provides better traction and slip resistance. The non-slip sole further offers a better grip, so even if you spend time working on slippery surfaces all day, the chances of accidents are minimal.

Finally, the anti-smashing steel toe cap protects your feet against impacts and compression.

What's There To Like About It?

Among the various things that make the Suadex shoes a great choice for factory workers, the thing I liked most was their durability. The premium-quality materials protect them from impacts, compression, and other types of damage such as spillage of chemicals and oils.

Also, they are incredibly lightweight and evenly balanced, so you won't get tired while wearing them for long hours. I also found the design attractive, which is not the case with most work shoes on the market.

What's There Not To Like About It?

While these shoes are meant for both men and women, the orderable size does not clearly indicate the gender for which they are meant. This can make it quite complicated to select the right size of shoes. Since this is not a problem with the Irish Setter work boots, I’ve placed this pair below them.

Buyers Guide

Now that you know about the best shoes for factory work that are available on the market currently, are you ready to make a decision? It's not that simple since several factors should be considered when buying such a product.

That's why in this section, I've listed some of the most important factors to consider when buying a work shoe.

1. Safety Toes

One of the first things to consider when buying a shoe for factory work is the presence of safety toes. The safety shoes present in certain work shoes may be made from different materials that protect your feet from various objects and prevent accidents. And various occupations and environments require different types of safety toes.

Generally, there are three types of safety toes available: aluminum, composite, and steel. All of these are ASTM-rated, ensuring proper foot protection. Steel-toes are most suitable for construction sites since they can protect workers from injuries to the feet and toes.

On the other hand, aluminum toes are best for workers who require protective footwear that are lightweight. Finally, there are composite toes, which are non-metallic and ideal for environments that need to stay metal-free.

2. Waterproof

Depending upon the working conditions and environment, you may need to get waterproof work shoes. At times, moisture can collect within the shoes, which can be unpleasant and uncomfortable while working and can lead to the growth of disease-causing bacteria. It can also damage the shoes if they are not waterproof.

Most waterproof options have a surface treatment of PVC or rubber, preventing the water or other liquids from entering the shoes. It is especially important for workers who work with oils and chemicals, as the chances of spillage are high in such cases.

3. Slip Resistance

Factory workers have to work on different types of surfaces, ranging from wet, slippery surfaces to uneven and rough terrain. In such situations, the chances of slippage and falls are extremely high. That's why selecting a work shoe that offers slip resistance and better traction on all surfaces is vital.

Most anti-slip work shoes feature a soft outsole, usually made of rubber to offer a better grip even on surfaces covered with water, oil, or other similar materials. So, make sure to look for this feature depending on your needs.

4. Fit

How well a shoe fits without cramping your feet directly determines the level of comfort it offers. Make sure that the shoe does not feel tight on any side but is not too loose so as to come off. It should provide adequate room for the toes without causing any cramping.

Selecting a shoe with the right fit will ensure the greatest comfort, which is of utmost importance since you are going to spend numerous hours wearing it. And the level of comfort can directly affect your performance. Uncomfortable shoes can also cause problems like sores, blisters, and ingrown toenails.

There are several factors that determine the fit of a shoe, such as the materials used for making it, its construction, and its design. For instance, leather shoes tend to stretch with time and can conform to the shape of the feet, but this is not the case with steel-toe ones.

5. Safety Standards

The best shoes for factory work are designed to meet or exceed various safety standards that have been developed to ensure maximum protection for the workers. These standards may relate to heat protection, protection against the electrical current, and more.

The most well-known of these standards are the ASTM standards, which are generally adhered to by leading manufacturers of work shoes. Hence, your preferred choice should meet these standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How Often Do Work Shoes Need To Be Replaced?

Although most work shoes are very sturdy and meant to last a long time, they will need to be replaced eventually. Generally, this period ranges from six to 12 months but can vary depending on your work environment.

One way to know when to replace your work shoes is to look at the outsole. If it is worn out, it is best to get a new pair as soon as possible.

Q2. What Is The Difference Between Safety Footwear, Protective Shoes, And Professional Footwear?

The primary difference between safety shoes and protective shoes is that the latter offer a lower level of protection for the toes compared to the former. That is why protective shoes are no longer used in modern times.

On the other hand, professional shoes are those which do not offer any toe protection but offer protective features, such as puncture resistance.

Q3. Can A Safety Toe Shoe Make Your Feet Hot?

The safety toes of work shoes are made from materials like aluminum or steel, which are excellent conductors of heat and can make the toe area hot. This is especially true if you work in jobs involving a lot of heat, such as in industrial furnaces.

That is why wearing a shoe with a composite safety toe is recommended since it can reduce the outside temperature conducted to the toe area of the shoe. You can combine this with a dry wick sock with moderate bulk for more efficient wicking.

Q4. What Can You Do To Make Your Work Shoes Last Longer?

The first thing to do is to select footwear that fits well since it will wear more evenly. Then, in the case of a leather shoe or boot, regularly oil the leather and condition it if it is regularly exposed to moisture. The oil can help waterproof the material while also softening it and preventing it from drying.

My Final Recommendation

Finding the right pair of work shoes that offer comfort and protection can be difficult, but hopefully, with these five options, you may find the process easier.

If you’re still unsure, I’d recommend going with the Skechers Work Sneaker. It offers a sturdy build, meets various safety standards, and is suitable for a wide variety of purposes. Another option would be the Keen Utility Work Shoes, which come with features like a waterproof design and a breathable mesh for maximum comfort.

Just remember to consider the factors mentioned in the buying guide when making a decision, which will make it easier to find the most suitable option. Now, I shall be concluding this guide and will see you soon in another exciting one.

Until next time!
