Can A Cobbler Make Shoes Smaller?

Does your brand new pair of shoes look like they belong to someone with larger feet than yours?

Don’t worry; I’ve had such moments too! In fact, we’ve all experienced this. I’ve bought multiple pairs of shoes because they were the prettiest thing I had ever come across, only to realize later that they weren’t a snug fit; instead, they were rather oversized.

Recently I was smitten by a pair of shoes on the market, and without a second thought, I got one for myself only to find out they weren’t meant for my feet. Upsettingly, I rushed back to the store to get them exchanged for the right fitting pair, but they were out of stock.

Heartbroken, I discussed my problem of getting oversized shoes with my friend Ashley. That’s when she suggested that I visit the cobbler and get my shoes fixed. Then and there, we rushed to the cobbler, and believe it or not, he worked his magic on my shoes and made them fit like a dream.

Howdy, readers! I’m Stacy Smith, and today I’ll be discussing the most asked question - “can a cobbler make shoes smaller?

Let’s cut to the chase and dive right into the deets!

Can A Cobbler Make Shoes Smaller?

If you’ve got the prettiest pair of shoes, but they are slightly oversized, take them to the cobbler instead of tossing them away in the bin. Although a cobbler can’t shrink your large, oversized shoes, they can definitely adjust them to make sure they fit your feet.

Now that you know that cobblers can work their magic on those ill-fitting, oversized shoes and make them fit snugly, let’s hop on to see how.

1. Adding Heel Grips To Make Them A Snug Fit

While I went to the cobbler, I told him the shoes were slipping around the heels, and the first thing he did was to add heel grips to my oversized shoes to make them a snug fit. Heel grips prevent you from slipping; that’s why cobblers add this to oversized shoes.  Plus, if you don’t get heel grips added to the shoes, they might cause blisters to your pretty feet.

If you think that these heel grips will add discomfort, you’re wrong. In fact, these are designed to provide comfort to your shoes. Additionally, they fit in so snugly, you’ll forget that you’re wearing heel grips.

The cobbler further hammers the grips to make sure these are securely attached to the inner part of the shoes. So, if you want Cinderella-fit shoes, you can rush to the nearest cobbler and get the heel grip added.

2. Placing A Gel Pad To The Ball Of The Foot

Another thing a cobbler would do to alter your oversized shoes into a comfortable fit is to place a gel pad in the ball of the foot area. But before that, be prepared to give him the details of your oversized shoes.

Before moving on to the process of adding a gel pad, he’ll ask you certain questions. So, be prepared to give him the details. Only then will he be able to work his magic, and lay down the gel pad to the ball of the foot area in the inner part of the shoes.

Next, he’ll glue them firmly to the sole. And, tada! Your shoes are ready. You can now wear them to the party, to the market, or anywhere you want, without the fear of slipping and bruising your feet.

Tips To Make Shoes Smaller At Home

Have you got a brand new elegant pair of oversized shoes simply because they were irresistible? To make sure those shoes aren’t wasted, I’ve listed down a few tried and tested hacks just for you! Take a look.

1. Shrink Them With Water

Yes, you heard it right! You can shrink those lovely shoes with water. All you need to do is soak your shoes in water and use a hair dryer to dry them completely. Make sure you don’t hold the hair dryer too close.

However, I’d recommend you wear the wet shoes and then dry them to avoid over-shrinking. Once dried, put them on. You’ll notice the difference. However, be careful while using a hair dryer to avoid ruining your shoes.

2. Use Shoe Fillings

To make your oversized shoes a perfect fit, you can use shoe fillings. But, if you’re in a hurry and have no time to buy fillings, use tissue paper. This is by far the easiest and one of my favorite methods.

3. Wear Thick Socks

Another hack to make your shoes the perfect fit is right in your closet. Of course, socks! Wear thick socks or even double them up and let them take the extra space. But, I’d advise you to avoid this during the summers because it will cause you to sweat a lot. Instead, you can use insoles or stuff materials in your shoes to make them the perfect fit.

Final Words

Cobblers are the unpraised heroes of the world. When it comes to shoes, they work like a charm and fix almost anything you want.

Ideally, the trend is to buy shoes that fit your size, but at times, you can end up picking the wrong size. But, don’t panic! You can always try DIY hacks or rush to the cobbler to get them fixed. No doubt, shoes are pretty expensive. Thus, I’d recommend you take your shoes to the cobbler and get them fixed to avoid ruining those attractive pairs.

However, if you don’t get the right-sized shoes for yourself, choose a half-size bigger pair of shoes. As, you can always get them fixed to your size. And don’t forget to let me know how you got your shoes resized in the comments below.

Till then, adios and have a great day!
