Can You Use Regular Miracle-Gro On Orchids

Miracle-Gro is undoubtedly among the most loved fertilizer brands in the country.

Considering its range of high-quality yet reasonably priced products, that isn’t surprising at all. So, if you’re planning to buy fertilizers from the brand to maintain your orchids, I’d say it’s a good decision.

But are you thinking of using the All-Purpose Plant Food in your garden? Then hang on— and read through my guide first.

Can You Use Regular Miracle-Gro On Orchids

To begin with, here’s a heads up — although the Miracle-Gro All-Purpose Plant Food is formulated for nourishing a variety of plants, it isn’t a one-stop solution for every plant.

That said, you need to be sure if the composition of this fertilizer is suitable for the plant you want to use it on. Simply put, its nutrient content should be ideal for enabling proper growth and nourishment of the plant.

So, can you use regular miracle gro on orchids?

Know that the NPK ratio of this fertilizer isn’t exactly in line with the nutritional needs of an orchid. Notably, NPK stands for nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which are the three primary nutrients needed by plants.

That’s why it will be best to buy a fertilizer with an NPK ratio that’s tailored to the needs of your orchid.

The Miracle-Gro For Orchids

Fortunately, the brand offers an orchid-specific version, the Miracle-Gro Water Soluble Orchid Food. Note that it comes with an NPK ratio of 30-10-10 or 30% nitrogen and 10% phosphorus and potassium each.

While nitrogen facilitates leaf growth in the plant, phosphorus helps with root growth and the formation of new blooms. As for potassium, it boosts overall growth in your orchids and lets them thrive.

In comparison, the All-Purpose Plant Food comes with an NPK ratio of 24-8-16, which implies it has less phosphorus and nitrogen than required by your orchid.

That’s why using it on an orchid might slow down root and leaf growth considerably. Plus, your blooms might not be as plentiful or large as an orchid-specific fertilizer can help you achieve.

Using The Orchid Food

Keep in mind that the brand recommends using this product differently for indoor and outdoor orchids. For the former, you should mix ¼ teaspoon of the Miracle-Gro Orchid Food in a gallon of water and use the mixture once every two weeks during the growing season.

As for outdoor orchid varieties, you should combine one tablespoon of the fertilizer with water and apply it to the soil around the plant while you water it.

Final Words

Hopefully, you’ve understood why it’s important to choose the specialized Miracle-Gro Orchid Food to care for these charming plants. Believe me; you’ll witness the change in the leaves and blooms of your orchids in a couple of weeks.

Moreover, this product is available in the form of a Plant Food Mist solution that you can use for feeding your orchids instantly. Use it once every week to get the best results, but be careful not to spray the flowers.

On that note, I will wrap things up for today. But I’ll be back with more interesting guides on gardening, so stay tuned!
