Do Uggs Run Big Or Small?

Want to buy a brand new pair of Uggs? Ugg boots are evergreen and have been in style for decades.

They are the ultimate go-to pieces for curating a cold-weather outfit. In fact, I own three pairs to mix and match with different looks.

However, choosing the right size can be a little tricky because you need to consider both the foot length and the calf fitting. Not just that, being composed of sheepskin and fleece, uggs change a little bit in size over time and this is a lesson that I learned the hard way.

Hey guys! I am Stacy Smith and today, I will talk all about Uggs, their size, and fit. Are you ready?

Let’s hop right in!

Originated in Australia, Uggs are gender-neutral boots made out of sheepskin. These boots generally have a tanned exterior and a soft fleece twin-faced sheepskin interior with synthetic soles

Let me tell you a few interesting facts about this footwear. Ugg boots were initially worn for utilitarian purposes, frequently donned by the surfers of the 1960s in Australia. A decade later, these shoes came to the surfing culture of the US and the UK but didn’t become a fashion statement until the 90s.

By the 2000s, uggs became synonymous with daggy fashion and were worn by teenagers and young adults all across the world. These shoes are iconic, especially during the fall and winter seasons. They prove both stylish and comfortable at the same time, keeping your feet warm in winter.

Where Does The Sheepskin Come From?

I know, y’all must be concerned about “sheepskin,” and where does it come from? Are any animal rights violated? Is it cruel? Don’t you worry, I’ll tell you all about it.

Uggs use sheepskin from the sheep that are specially reared for meat production. In a way, it is a by-product of the process because when sheep are processed for human consumption sheepskin is disposed of by the manufacturers.

Sheep are never solely reared for their skin, and ugg boots companies only work with ranchers or farmers who do not indulge in animal cruelty and abuse. The companies enforce strict norms and welfare policies for animals that all the farmers need to comply with.

Meaning, you can clear your conscience because you won’t be harming any animals for getting these boots.

Do Uggs Run Big Or Small?

We’ve finally reached the heart of the matter, “do uggs run big or small?” Let’s talk about it a little.

Ugg boots tend to run big after you’ve worn them a few times because the sheepskin mats down after a while. When I bought my first ever pair, and that was a long time ago, I was inexperienced and didn’t have an accurate idea of the size. I obviously bought the same size as my regular shoes, and that’s where I made a blunder.

The boots were fine initially but became loose after one to two weeks, and you know how they are supposed to hug your calves, right? They did not anymore.

That was kind of a disappointment because I adored that pair, but I took my lesson. You need to buy uggs that are a size or half smaller than your regular fit.

Buying The Right Uggs Size

If you know your exact shoe size, then go for one size smaller than that, but if you don’t, measure your foot length first. Do it carefully by putting the measuring tape at the tip of your toe and taking it to the back of your heel in a straight path. Make sure that the longest toe is your initial point, and you’ll be good.

Uggs, in general, do not cause any fitting issues for the calves and stretch to fit all sizes and shapes. The minis are the safest in terms of fit because they are ankle length and aren’t affected by the size of your calves. But personally, I love the classic tall ones because they are so chic and boujee, the perfect footwear for fall outfits.

To be on the safer side for the tall design, I recommend measuring your calves and cross-checking it with the model’s size. Take a measuring tape and see your calf’s circumference at thirty centimeters above your ankle. If it is smaller than thirty-eight centimeters, you’ll be fine.

However, if you have nice and thick calves, I suggest going for the leather ones. They are flexible and will accentuate your legs, giving you all the confidence you need.

Looking After Your Uggs

Maintaining ugg boots is quite easy; you just need to keep a few key points in mind.

A lot of people ask if they can simply wash their boots with water and detergent. I’d say no, because uggs are made of sheepskin, and that doesn’t react well to water.

They also have a fleece lining, which loses its softness on continuous exposure to detergent. If you feel your boots are getting grimy, simply take a trip to the dry cleaners.

Additionally, please avoid wearing Uggs on rainy days because they are cushiony and absorb a lot of water. Drenched woolen shoes that take forever to dry are the last thing you’d want. If you wish to have a pair that is wearable in all weather conditions, you should look into the leather-styled models.

Final Words

Alright, I have imparted all my exquisite knowledge about these versatile pieces of fashion. Did you enjoy it because I hope you got to know all that you wanted to.

To conclude I’ll say ugg boots are adorable and are produced with mindfulness, complying with animal rights along the way. They run the risk of expanding in size over time, so purchase accordingly.

If you have any feedback or queries, send them my way in the comments. I’ll see you next time, take care!
