Essential Items You Should Have In Your Garage

For most DIYers, the garage is their go-to space for carrying out projects. So, it is imperative to keep it stuffed with the required items.

I used my garage, not just for keeping my car, but also for storing almost everything that you can think of. However, with all that stuff stacked up in there, it often felt claustrophobic and soon turned into an uncomfortable space for working.

No matter what the project is, if you cannot find the right item at the right time, it simply leads to a wastage of time and energy. So, I felt it was about time I got my garage organized.

Last week, I got rid of all the useless junk and kept only the essential items.  Moreover, my husband was returning from his work after one month, so I thought of giving him a little surprise by cleaning the garage.

Hi! This is Stacy Smith, and today I will be telling you about the essential items you should have in your garage. So, without wasting any more time, let’s jump right in.

Essential Items You Should Have In Your Garage

Here is a list of all the essential items you should consider having in your garage.

1. Car Maintenance Items

As it is a garage, obviously there will be a car in it. But, apart from just the car, you should store some of its essential maintenance items to ensure that it runs smoothly.

For instance, car repair tools, a battery charger, car fluids, etc. Furthermore, I would suggest you keep a set of these tools in your car as well in case of emergencies on the road.

2. Ice And Snow Removal Items

People living in colder climates must keep ice and snow removal items handy in their garages. From a de-icer to a snow shovel, homeowners should keep all the essential equipment to clear snow from their property. Doing this ensures that they can go about their day without much hassle when the harsh winter strikes.

3. Ceiling Storage

When you have a small garage, keeping all the essential items on the benches or the floor might not be possible. Hence, it would be best if you considered getting a few ceiling storages to accumulate all the important stuff in your garage.

Not only will it make your garage feel bigger, but the ceiling storage is perfect for keeping out-of-season clothing bins, luggage, and holiday decoration items.

4. First Aid Kit

God forbid, but if some accident happens when you are welding those large sheets of metal in your garage, first aid will come in handy. Plus, it can be used as a backup kit.

For instance, if you cannot find a certain item in the bedroom’s first aid kit, you can use the kit that’s safely stored in the garage. Not to mention, it is easier to get into your garage than your bedroom during emergencies.

So, be wise and don’t forget to keep a first aid kit in your garage.

5. Workbench

A workbench is an essential item that you would need for working on your DIY tasks. Apart from featuring a wide surface, it sports an LED and has a lot of storage.

Not only does it help in tackling both smaller and bigger projects, but it also works great for organizing your power tools and hand tools. So, if you like to work on DIY projects in the garage, a workbench is a must-have.

6. Portable Fan

The amount of time spent in the garage is a lot less than the time spent in the living room and bedroom. For this reason, most garages don’t have air-conditioning in them, and this is why portable fans prove valuable.

It keeps you cool in sultry summers while you are working hard on the project at hand. Besides, it allows proper ventilation, which many garages lack, and keeps the toxic fumes away when you are painting a project.

7. Garden Supplies

Gardening is my hobby, so I prefer keeping all my gardening supplies in my garage to avoid losing them. Even though they are not that expensive, I don’t like the idea of misplacing them. Moreover, since they are widely used in the garden, they are most likely to carry outdoor grime and dirt, making the garage the right place for storing them.

8. Pet Food

Most pet owners would agree that it’s crucial to feed their pets in a particular area. So, if you have a pet, I recommend feeding it in the garage, as it is completely separated from your eating space, thereby reducing the chances of catching diseases.

You could also purchase a small fridge and keep it in the garage, ensuring that you don’t need to carry pet food from the house. Hence, it is more convenient and the food will last longer.

9. Cushioned Flooring Mat

I bet that you already know about the toll it takes on your back and feet when you’re standing for prolonged periods on the concrete floor. So, if you don’t already have a cushioned flooring mat in the garage, I suggest you get it as soon as possible.

A cushioned mat allows you to stand and work on it for long hours without any pain. On top of that, it protects the floor from accidental spills, splatters of paint, and other toxic chemicals.
