HARRIS Kind Melt Pet-Friendly Ice Melt- Is it right for your home?

If you have pets with paws, you need to get a de-icer that is both effective and safe for your animals to walk on. So, is KindMelt that product for you? It may seem as if the more effective an ice melt is at melting away snow and ice, the harsher it is on your floors and the more harmful to your pets. This is what I thought until I tried out KindMelt last winter. I liked how fast it melted snow and ice and was pleasantly surprised that it did not hurt my puppy's paw. To find out if it is right for you, read our review below.

HARRIS Kind Melt Pet-Friendly Ice Melt breakdown and review

HARRIS KindMelt ice melt is made of Dead Sea magnesium chloride and works through an exothermic reaction that produces heat, making it a fast-acting ice melt. Because of this base chloride, the product is less corrosive to your wooden and concrete patios, sidewalks, and driveway. KindMelt lowers the water freezing temperature to -13 °F (-25 °C), which is higher than calcium chloride products' -25 °F, but still effective for most situations. KindMelt ice melt's advantages are that it will not irritate, and it comes in round pellets which do not cause bruising if they get stuck in paws. It is safer to use on your lawn and kinder to the environment. It also dissolves well and leaves little residue.

What we liked

  • Fast acting.
  • Gentle on vegetation.
  • Safer for pets.

What we didn’t like

  • Expensive
  • Not as effective as calcium chloride products.

HARRIS Kind Melt Pet-Friendly Ice Melt Features

  • Less corrosive
This ice melt is less damaging to wooden surfaces compared to regular rock salt (sodium chloride). It also causes less corrosive harm to concrete and stone, meaning it will not tear up your pathways and sidewalks.
  • Leaves no residue
When rock salts and ice-melting products dissolve with ice to make a brine, they make a mess that can stick to shoes and paws. Not so with KindMelt: it dissolves and leaves so little residue that it is unlikely to make its way into the house. This makes it a good product to use in areas closest to the door because it not only de-ices but also leaves you with cleaner surfaces around the house and indoors. Who is it best suited for? This ice melt is for you if you have wooden or concrete outdoor surfaces or if you have pets that need to walk outside on de-iced surfaces.
