How Long Do Riding Lawn Mowers Last

If you believe in maintaining a beautiful and well-kept garden, lawn mowers are going to be a necessity. However, are they cost-effective?

That is exactly where I come in. In this guide, I will tell you about how long do riding lawn mowers last. You do not need to spend money and replace it anytime soon if you take good care of the machine.

Read on to know more in detail.

How Long Do Riding Lawn Mowers Last?

Like any other machine, the longevity of riding lawn mowers depends on the amount of care that it receives. If you have a busy life and are unable to spend too long on maintenance, then it will usually last for up to 1500 hours or more.

But for those who believe in meticulous maintenance of the machine, it can easily last for more than 20 years. However, you will need to be prepared for a few things.

So, if you are planning to make the lawn mower work for more that long, you may need to replace or fix some parts. This includes the pulleys, belts, batteries, carburetor, head gasket, or starter solenoid, for that matter.

However, the good news is that repairing or fixing the parts is not going to be a very tough job and you should not have to spend a lot on them. Just remember to go to a good workshop to get it done.

Some General Tips To Remember

First of all, you will need to ensure that there is sufficient oil in the machine, and I will recommend checking it before and after use. Besides, it is best not to run the mower with no oil in it, as this is one of the top reasons for the reduced lifespan of the engine.

Plus, make sure that the oil you are using is of high quality and a gas stabilizer is being used with it. The gas stabilizer will prevent musty, stale gas from affecting the machine.

Similarly, the tires should have adequate pressure, and the blades sharpened. Blunt blades will not do a good job, which may place a lot of pressure on the machine. Hence, get the blades sharpened at regular intervals. Also, let the engine warm-up before you move to full throttle.

Final Words

I have learned it the hard way, but I suggest that you never leave the riding lawn mower outside in the rain. If you are going away for a few days, store the mower inside the garage or the house to keep it safe.

Also, when winterizing, you should do a complete cleanup of the machine to prevent any rust build-up in the parts. With this, I have reached the end of this guide, and I will soon be back with more informative reads.

Take care and goodbye!
