How Long Does It Take Gasoline To Kill Weeds

Is It A Good Idea To Kill Weeds Using Gasoline?

Gasoline can be a double-edged sword in garden management and lawn care. It is highly toxic for plants, meaning if you are not careful, it will kill your entire garden along with the weeds.

However, if you use gasoline occasionally and in limited amounts, it can be a powerful weapon for getting rid of weeds. Also, it is faster than any commercial herbicide as it takes around 48 hours for gasoline to kill weeds and grass.

Another advantage of using gasoline over commercial herbicides is its affordability. It penetrates deeper into the soil, quickly killing the weeds, right down to the roots, to help you get faster and better results.

Steps To Use Gasoline To Kill Weeds In Your Backyard

While I’m at it, let’s look at the steps that can help you kill weeds using gasoline.

Step 1

Get some gasoline or diesel fuel from the nearest gas station depending on the size of your backyard. Two to three gallons should do the trick because you won’t need much of it.

Now, pour the gasoline inside a plastic spray bottle. It is best to do this away from your garden so that you don’t ruin the plants in case of any accidental spills.

Step 2

After you’ve filled the plastic spray bottle with gasoline, assess the area having weeds and grass. Then, bend on your knees before spraying so that you are closer to the ground.

When closer to the ground, you will have better control over the spraying, and you’ll require less fuel. But, if you stand and spray the gasoline, it has a higher chance of killing your surrounding plants.

Step 3

Finally, spray the gasoline on the weeds and their roots using the nozzle of the plastic spray bottle. Avoid spraying too much gasoline; instead, just wet the grass and weeds, and they will die after two days or so.

Final Words

Weeds take up all the nutrients and water from the soil, which can ultimately be detrimental for the plants. After going through my article, I hope you understand how fast gasoline kills weeds.

I’ll suggest you be careful while spraying gasoline in your backyard as too much of it can kill the flower as well. But in the right quantity, it certainly proves effective.

See you next time, happy gardening!
