How Many Wheelbarrow Loads In A Yard Of Mulch

If you are into gardening, you might have ordered mulch and compost. Typically, they arrive in bulk bags and may need to be transferred in wheelbarrows.

Wheelbarrows can come in a number of sizes, making it difficult to count the exact number of loads one can take. However, I have made it easier by penning this informative guide which will tell you how many wheelbarrow loads in a yard of mulch are needed.

Read on!

How Many Wheelbarrow Loads In A Yard Of Mulch?

In terms of cubic yards, one generally means 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet, which comes to 27 feet in total. But before I proceed, remember that this is a measurement of volume and not of weight.

Now generally, there are two main types of wheelbarrows used, i.e., 2 cubic feet and 3 cubic feet. If you have a 2 cubic feet wheelbarrow, then 14 wheelbarrow loads will be required to transfer a yard of mulch.

On the other hand, if you are using a 3 cubic feet option, then 9 wheelbarrow loads will be needed. This is the most common type that is used by homeowners. But I will not stop here, as you may still own a wheelbarrow of a different size. For example, if it is a 4 cubic feet option, then you will require 7 loads to transfer the mulch.

In the case of a 5 cubic feet wheelbarrow, you will need approximately 6 loads to empty the mulch bag. And if you have a large garden tool that measures 6 cubic feet, then 5 loads should be enough.

Types Of Wheelbarrows

There are a few types of wheelbarrows that you should know about. Firstly, I will tell you about the shallow tray, which is generally 2 cubic feet in size and typically used for small gardens.

Then there is the deep tray option, which is a lot shallower than the previous one. It is bigger and can measure up to 10 cubic feet in size. I have mostly seen that these wheelbarrows are generally used by contractors as well as landscaping professionals.

Final Words

The weight of one cubic yard of mulch generally weighs between 400 and 800 lbs. However, the exact weight will vary according to the moisture level of the mulch. It can consist of decomposed materials, too, which can add to the overall weight.

I am now ready to wrap up this guide, but before doing that, let me tell you about the general measurement in case you own a different type of wheelbarrow. Just divide 27 by the cubic feet of the wheelbarrow and the result should give you the exact value of loads that need to be carried.

Goodbye for now, and I will soon be back with more informative guides. Until next time!
