How Much Does It Cost To Seal Granite Countertops

Your kitchen countertops typically observe heavy amounts of traffic, which eventually damage the surface.

However, sealing granite countertops does more than just make them look aesthetic. In fact, most professionals recommend resealing granite countertops at least once a year to protect them.

So, are you wondering how much does it cost to seal granite countertops? Take a look at my informative guide to know all about it.

How Much Does It Cost To Seal Your Granite Countertops

Let me give you a rough estimate of how much the total cost of sealing granite countertops would be. Typically, it would cost you anywhere between $0.68 and $1.42 per sq ft. to seal granite countertops. And the total cost of the procedure would be anywhere between $200 and $350.

Now, let me break it down for you so you understand each aspect of sealing granite countertops.

  • Cost per sq. inch to seal granite countertop - $0.68 to $1.42
  • Sealant and other supplies - $45 to $55
  • Cost of labor - $125 to $300
  • Total cost - $200 to $350

Do You Need To Seal Granite Your Countertops?

One of the best things about granite is that it is inherently moisture-resistant. However, since it is a natural stone, it is also highly porous. Since the kitchen area typically has a lot of traffic and may experience spills and stains, the high porosity of granite can cause the spills to permanently stain its beautiful surface.

Putting a sealant on a granite countertop effectively creates a barrier against these spills and stains. As such, it does not allow liquids and oils to absorb into the surface and damage it.

That’s why professionals recommend resealing granite countertops every year (if your kitchen experiences moderate to regular traffic) and every six months (if it experiences high traffic).

But from my experience, I’d say it is best to reseal granite countertops whenever required. And here are a couple of things to keep in mind when resealing your granite countertops.

  • The color of the granite countertop
  • The porosity of the stone
  • The quality of the sealant
  • How the sealant is applied
  • How much traffic does the countertop experience

How Can You Tell If Your Granite Countertop Requires Resealing?

There is a simple test that I conduct to figure out if the granite countertops at home require resealing or not. To do this, you can pour one tablespoon of tap water on the granite surface and leave it undisturbed for 10 to 15 minutes.

Then, wipe away the water using just a dry cloth and check the surface. If the stone appears to be darker, it’s time to reseal the countertop.

Conclusion

Sealing granite countertops is an easy process that can be done at home. However, if you are unsure of it, it is best to get professional help. But make sure you do your research beforehand to ensure the best deals and trained professionals for the purpose.

I’ll see you again soon. Until next time, take care!
