How Much Weight Can A Wheelbarrow Hold

Wheelbarrows are highly versatile tools, suitable for a wide variety of purposes.

You can use different types of wheelbarrows, depending on the type of task. These uses range from gardening to construction and more, with the carrying capacity also varying based on the dimensions of the model.

In this guide, I will share all the details regarding the volume and carrying capacity of a wheelbarrow. So, let’s get started!

Wheelbarrow Dimensions

Most wheelbarrows have the carrying capacity marked, but to find out the volume of a wheelbarrow, simply multiply the length of the wheelbarrow with its depth and width. The volume determines the carrying capacity of the wheelbarrow.

How much weight can a wheelbarrow hold at a time depends upon its dimensions. For the purpose of my guide, I shall be talking about the standard wheelbarrow. It has a volume of eight cubic feet and weighs about 55 pounds. Moreover, these wheelbarrows are about 65 inches long, have a height of 35 inches, and are 30 inches wide.

Keep in mind that eight cubic feet is the standard carrying capacity of an empty wheelbarrow. For other types of wheelbarrows, this capacity can change, ranging from one cubic foot to ten cubic feet. For instance, the gardening wheelbarrow has a volume of about three cubic feet.

Wheelbarrow Conversion

Due to the varying sizes and dimensions of wheelbarrows, it is essential to know how the volume or carrying capacity can be converted into other units. For instance, you can easily know how much liquid the wheelbarrow will carry by converting cubic feet into liters or gallons.

The standard eight cubic feet wheelbarrow can hold up to 227 liters or 60 gallons of liquid, though this depends on how well-sealed it is.

Wheelbarrow Weight

When using a wheelbarrow to carry or transport solids or liquids, weight is one of the primary considerations. This is because wheelbarrows have a single wheel, and their weight and the weight of the items they contain can influence the direction in which a user pushes them.

The standard eight cubic feet wheelbarrow can carry up to 460 pounds of liquid and 1,200 pounds of any solid material. However, make sure to check the measurement before transporting any item and avoid overloading the wheelbarrow.

Wheelbarrow Handle

Wheelbarrows usually have steel or wooden handles, with the former not only strong enough but are also rust-resistant so that they do not break easily. On the other hand, wooden handles offer greater comfort while using the wheelbarrow.

Another excellent option is pivot handles that help manage the workload, reducing exertion.

Final Words

Now that you know how much weight your wheelbarrow can hold, you can plan any gardening or construction activities easily. The carrying capacity will also help you know how many trips you will require to carry the materials to the destination.

Just be careful not to overload the wheelbarrow, and you should be fine.
