So, without further delay, let’s get to the step-by-step guide on how to blow up a tree stump with dynamite: 

Step1: Identifying The Tree Type 

First off, it’s crucial to figure out the type of tree stump you are dealing with. That’s because not all species of trees have the same hardness, and a few of them are protected. Note that in the latter case, the laws for removal can be different, especially if the trees haven’t been cut yet. 

Step 2: Check Your City And State Regulations 

Fortunately, in most cities, private homeowners are allowed to remove trees on their property. But special regulations are applicable in certain cases, such as for oaks in California. 

Step 3: Check For Buried Lines 

At times, utility companies mark buried electrical power or sewer lines around a property. And you would never want to blow up the electrical connection or a sewer. After all, repairing such accidents can land you in financial and legal trouble. 

Step 4: Buy The Dynamite 

Next, you’ll have to calculate the amount of dynamite needed. As per the regulations of the US Department Of Agriculture, you’ll need different amounts to handle softwood and hardwood trees. Accordingly, proceed to buy the dynamite stick from a legal source along with the blasting caps required to set it off. 

Step 5: Prepare The Area 

Dig a hole with a 1.5-inch diameter and 3.5-inch depth around the base of the stump and place the dynamite at the bottom of the tree. Next, figure out the lead time and double-check the distance up to which the explosion will throw shrapnel. You’ll then have to create a two-step train made up of the blasting cap and the dynamite stick. 

And once you’re sure that everything is set up and you’ll be at a safe distance, make sure neighbors, pets, family, and neighbors are away from the area. 

Step 5: Blow Up The Stump 

Finally, set off the dynamite through the basting cap, and the stump will blow up. And once the job is done, make sure you clean up the area, picking up all the wood pieces to ensure they don’t injure anyone walking around.
