How To Clean Patio Furniture Mesh

Being 53 years old, very few things surprise me, except when my friends decide to throw me a birthday party. I could hardly believe it when they all turned up, and we had the time of our lives cutting the cake, grilling the chicken, and dancing in the garden. What's even more lovely is that they all pitched in and bought me a set of beautiful patio mesh chairs since they know I love to read. Over time, my husband and I have spent many evenings sitting in the chairs and enjoying the evening breeze. But last week, I was in for a shock when I saw that the furniture had gathered substantial dust from the outdoors. Now, I was circumspect regarding how to clean patio furniture mesh without damaging it, and that's when Mrs. Lewis gave me a hand. She showed me the most effective way to go about it, and I was astonished by how easy it was to do. It struck me then that many people may not know how to maintain their patio mesh furniture. So, for convenience, I've listed down all the points I picked up. Hi, I'm Stacy Smith, and let's get started.

The Best Way To Clean Patio Mesh Furniture

Things to Remember

Before I tell you how to take care of your patio furniture mesh, you must keep in mind that you can avoid the problems I faced with regular cleaning. It's essential to be gentle because the mesh isn't as strong as metal or even plastic. It would be best if you stuck to the ingredients I've listed down lest you end up ruining the furniture, which is possible with the wrong solutions. Strictly avoid using mixtures with acid or vinegar, as it doesn't agree with patio mesh. Besides, instead of directly applying any liquid solution, it would be best if you start by dusting the furniture. It'll keep the dust particles from adhering to the mesh, and when you wipe it down, they'll come right off, leaving you with excellent and clean furniture. So, without further ado, let's begin, and rest assured in no time, your patio furniture mesh will be back to its original condition.

Steps to Follow

  1. Firstly, you'll need to go for some old-fashioned dusting as it's necessary to wipe away the loose dirt. You require a soft-bristled brush for the purpose and ensure you get into the corners and edges. Take your time and be thorough in your work.
  2. Next, it's time to wash, but you'll need to prepare a particular solution for that. Since you can't use some of the regular mixtures available, you'll need to mix one tablespoon of detergent with one cup of warm water.
  3. Proceed to apply this solution to the arms and frame of the furniture by using a rag, and remember to be gentle. Once you've wiped down the individual parts, it's time to rinse it once more by using clean, warm water. And after the second round of cleaning, you'll have to wipe the furniture with a soft cloth.
  4. Now, it's time to wash the main body, meaning you'll have to make a fresh batch of the detergent and warm water mixture. Then use a clean rag and wipe down along the front and back. But it's not enough to do it once, and you must wipe it again for the best results.
  5. Subsequently, rinse the mesh using a bucket of warm water and ensure it's rinsed all the way through. When you're sure, you can wipe down the fabric with a soft cloth to prevent damage.

How To Clean Patio Cushions

But cleaning the furniture isn't the end of your work, and understandably the cushions also need cleaning. It would be best to use your hands because it's impossible to wash the pillows in a machine. Therefore, you can start by making a mixture comprising a quarter cup of warm water, one tablespoon of dishwashing detergent, and one tablespoon of sodium borate. Keep a sponge close by and dip it into the solution and ensure it's well soaked. Then, scrub the cushions thoroughly on all sides, and when you're done, let them sit in the solution for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, get the hose ready, and after counting down the final few seconds, rinse it off with water. All that remains is to let the cushions dry off, and the most efficient way for that is to balance them on edge to let the water drain away.

Additional Points

Another major problem that people usually face is mildew, and having been on the wrong end of it, I can understand your concern. But there's a simple solution and what you can primarily do is avoid keeping your mesh furniture in the dark or damp space. You've to ensure the furniture receives sufficient sunlight, but I suggest using bleach if the area affected is quite substantial. All you need is to take a white cloth and let it soak in a mixture of bleach and water. Now comes the tricky part where you need to apply it to the mildew hit area. So, please put the wet cloth on the mold and let the solution soak all the way around. Then wring out the fabric and repeat the procedure before placing the furniture in the sun. While drying, you can try keeping them upside down or on the sides, which will allow the rays to reach all available corners. No matter how much you clean, there's no better solution for mildew than the burning rays of the sun.

Final Words

I've reached the end of my guide, and hopefully, you've got a better idea of how to clean your mesh furniture. You must take your time and, if possible, get someone to assist you. It'll reduce the effort, and you can get it done quickly as well as efficiently. That's all for now. I've decided to invite the Lewis family over for dinner to thank them for their help. Until we meet again, take care. Bye!
