A circular saw works well when it comes to mitered cuts. This involves cutting 2 pieces of the board at a 45-degree angle and then joining them. It is needed to make different kinds of furniture pieces and flooring.
Now before I begin, I want to tell you that the process is not rocket science, and you can totally go about it. Follow the steps, and you will have a hassle-free experience.
Being prepared before beginning the work is something that I always aspire to do. This gives me enough peace of mind throughout the process. Assemble all the items at the beginning itself, including the circular saw, wooden piece, and protective gear.
I would always suggest that you wear proper gloves, eyewear, and boots to prevent any injuries or accidents as you’ll be working with a saw.
Furthermore, you will need to set the workpiece and measure it properly. Position it well and make a mark where you want to cut. This will ensure a smooth work process.
Next, you will have to set the depth, and this involves unplugging the circular saw first. You will then need to attach it to the wooden board. Note that the base plate has to be adjusted to ensure that the saw blade will fully cut your wood piece. It has to reach ¼ inches deeper than the wood.
After you have placed it correctly, tighten the depth-adjusting lever to keep it in place.
This is the most important step in ensuring a perfect 45-degree angle. You will have to line the blade with the wooden board in such a way that they are in perfect alignment. The saw angle guide should not be prone to slipping while you are working, and you have to place the 45-degree angle guide in place.
Once this is done, use a clamp to hold it well and then recheck to ensure that the board is still in position. Turn on the curler saw at this point in time after repositioning.
This is the step where you need to recheck all the positions again. From checking the circular saw position to the saw depth adjustment, everything needs to be checked to prevent errors. Also, look at the circular saw angle guide and the saw base plate. They have to be aligned with the edge of the wooden piece.
Next, you will have to check the speed square and slide it up through the base plate. I will recommend holding this very tight as it should not move at all during the work process.
At this stage, if you have followed the previous steps carefully, you should be able to make a 45-degree cut. The circular saw needs to be switched on now. Ideally, give it a few seconds to begin working steadily.
I will suggest you to not work in the dark. But in case it is dark, switch on the LED light of the saw and then continue. If there is none, then take the help of any other source of light.
Also, check if the dust collection port is empty and it is ready to pull in the dust and debris. Otherwise, you will have a lot of dust in the air, and that can disrupt vision.
Moving on, you must have already made the cutting marks. This is when you hold the blade against the marks and work your way through. Avoid pushing it too hard; instead, let it work at its own pace.
When you cut the wood, it is absolutely essential that you maintain complete steadiness. The board should be in connection with the circular saw at all times, and that will provide you with a flawless and smooth finish.
Now in the case of mitered cuts, you will need to cut 2 pieces of boards in the exact same way. Repeat the entire process for another piece of wood so that both are perfectly aligned and can be joined.
Generally, a 45-degree angle is needed to create edges that can then be joined. A miter saw, table saw, or a jigsaw could also be used, but they will not provide a clean finish like a circular saw. Now, if this is your first time working with it, this may seem to be difficult.
