How To Inflate A Lawn Mower Tire

Did your lawn mower tire get deflated during gardening, and you don’t know how to fix it?

Having a partly flat or flat lawn mower can make for an uncomfortable gardening experience. It also puts more load on the engine, in turn consuming more fuel. I couldn't work with it for days and had to resort to using a reel mower, which was extremely exhausting.

So how to inflate a lawn mower tire? Continue reading to know more.

Inflating A Lawn Mower Tire

Step 1: Inspect The Tire

You can inspect a tire in two ways. Firstly, you can visually examine and see if the tire looks flat and needs inflating. You can also check the air pressure in each tire and verify if you need to pump more air.

A. Determining Tire Pressure

To do this, you will need a pressure gauge that should be attached to the valve stem of the tire. The recommended pressure value is usually mentioned on the rear side of each tire, but if not, then refer to the instructions manual.

Measure the pressure of all tires using the gauge, and if the reading is less than the recommended value, they should be inflated.

B. Visual Inspection Of Tires

If the tire looks more flattened than usual, just press it slightly. In case you easily squeeze it, then more air needs to be filled in. Also, if the air inside the tires isn’t adequate, you’ll get an indication while riding the mower.

Sometimes, you might find that all the air has escaped the tire. In such cases, you may first need to fix the rim before inflating the tire.

Step 2: Fix The Damaged Tire

This step will explain how to fix your tire if it has got punctured or dislocated from the rim. If it has not been damaged and just needs air to be filled, move to step 3 directly.

In case of a punctured tire, locate the puncture site and use a tire sealant to fix it. On the other hand, if it has fallen off the rim, hold the tire to its place, tie a rope around it and twist it using a rod to make sure the tire stays intact. Once it's done, fill the tire with air.

Step 3: Inflate The Tire

Before inflating the tire, attach the attached pressure gauge directly to the valve stem. When it fits in, turn it on and wait for it to pressurize. Once it reaches the required level, remove the gauge and attach the compressor with the hose.

Air begins to fill into the tire by pressing the hose. When it reaches the standard pressure, remove the compressor and re-attach the gauge to check the current pressure level. If it reaches the prescribed value, remove it, and put back the valve cap.

Final Words

When you need to inflate a tire that has lost some air pressure, it might not be that difficult task. Just remove the valve cap, insert the compressor, and fill it to its prescribed pressure level. But if you’re unable to do it the DIY way, you can always call for professional help.

However, make sure that it does not exceed the prescribed level, as excess pressure might blow up the tire.
