Out of the blue, kitchen islands have exploded in popularity in modern homes.
And rightly so, since it can complement your kitchen décor and is the perfect space for the whole family to gather and prepare meals, enjoying each other’s company. However, they are quite heavy, and moving them is a challenging task.

Islands are a great way to brighten up your kitchenette, and the right one can serve as the focal point of the space. But at times, the kitchen island no longer fits your preferences and needs to be moved.
Whether it’s a major renovation project or simply a weekend task, the time required for moving a kitchen island depends totally on its size and features.
Those having lightweight countertops and aren’t anchored to the floor can be moved easily. However, if your kitchen island features a stove, sink, or electrical outlet, then moving it will be much more complicated than you think.
Roughly speaking, a kitchen island weighs over 1,000 lbs. which will make moving it all the more challenging. And that’s why I suggest you first take out the plates, pans, pots, and drawers housed in it and then try to push the island from the center and the corner.
Of course, moving it alone is nearly impossible, so make sure you gather a few people who can help you push the structure.
If your kitchen island has wheels, you can push it and secure it anywhere without difficulty. Otherwise, you’ll have to look for anchors and unfasten them with screws from the floor or wall.
To lift the wooden piece off the base, you’ll have to use a hammer, so make sure you keep it handy. After removing the bottom board, unscrew the solid frame, and you’ll be done!
With the help of an electric screwdriver, unfasten the screws from the wooden frame. However, if the cabinet is fastened to concrete, then you’ll probably need an electric drill with a screwdriver bit. After removing all the anchors, push the cabinet in the desired direction until you reach the new installation point.
Secure the kitchen island in the new location using the appropriate tools. If you’ve got tiles or concrete installed, you’ll have to remove them to simplify the task.
Later, you can put back the drawers and other removed attachments for repositioning the island.
Truly, islands add style and functionality to a kitchen space. And the best part is that they are movable, so you can reposition them whenever you want.
