Does the sight of spiders crawling out of corners send a shiver down your spine?
You’re not alone because it creeps me out too. Garages, in particular, seem to be spider magnets, attracting all sizes and types of spiders from different corners. Luckily, I found the best ways to keep them out for good.
So, if you were wondering how to prevent spiders in the garage, these tips will work for you.
If you want to avoid meeting creepy crawlies in the dark, the first task you need to do is declutter the garage. Take an afternoon off to sort the things in your garage and organize each item in designated places.
But, before organizing, clear out things you don’t need anymore. To keep the area clutter-free, consider investing in specialized cabinets so that you have enough space to keep everything inside.
Dirt, dust, and grime can settle in any area if not cleaned regularly. Unfortunately, spiders often like to build their cobwebs in such spaces. So, sweep, vacuum, mop, and do all you can to get the garage fresh and clean.
After a good mopping session, dry the floors and remove any moisture. But, most importantly, try to clean up the area regularly because spiders don’t like to stay in places where their cobwebs are regularly destroyed.
Seal all the points spiders can use to enter the area. Holes in the walls, window panes, and doors need to be covered with caulk so that bugs don’t find a way in.
If you spot a stray spider in the garage even after following these steps, it might be time to resort to chemicals. Buy an insecticide that is designed to ward off spiders and follow all the directions. Before you go about spraying the place, remove your furniture, household items, pets, and kids far away from the garage.
Finally, if you are allergic to insecticides and chemicals, there are natural alternatives you can try. Take lemon essential oil, peppermint oil, tea tree oil, or lavender and place them in a spray bottle with some liquid dish soap. Use this mixture to spray all over cobwebs and dark corners and walls. This potent natural mix should be strong enough to keep spiders at bay.
And, that’s it for the day! Follow these few tips for now, and spiders should visit your garage less frequently. You might not need to follow all the steps in one day. In fact, I like to space out cleaning and other tasks throughout the week.
