So, if you’re wondering how to go about tightening the chain on your Homelite chainsaw, my guide will come in handy.
It’s important to take the necessary safety steps before you start tightening the chain of your chainsaw. Put on heavy-duty gloves to keep your hands safe and ensure that the device isn’t connected to any power source. Then, place it on a flat surface that is clear of obstructions.
Next, lay out the chain with its cutters in the rotating direction, fitting the drive links into indentations of the bar. Once the chain is in place, you can move it, allowing a loop to form at the back. You’ll need to fit this loop around the sprocket of your Homelite chainsaw.
Moving on, keep the bar on the mounting area and fit the studs into its long slot. As a rule of thumb, make sure that the tension pin of the chain enters the pinhole on the bar properly.
When that’s done, place the cover and the locking knob on the device. You’ll have to tighten the knob in a way that it is loose enough to fit the bar and tight enough to keep the chain in place.
Adjust the chain until it fits properly on the bar by rotating the knob clockwise. You can check if there is any slack in it by lifting up the tip of the guide bar. In case you still find the chain loose, keep repeating this process until it fits snugly.
It is important to get the chain tension right while tightening it on the chainsaw. The telling sign of a chain with good tension is that it's neither too loose, not too tight on the bar. Try pulling it, if you fail to jerk out the links from the bar nose, the tension is just right.
Furthermore, having a chain with disengaged links is not a good sign. It means you’ll need to tighten it up more.
