But recently, I decided to try the Mig welding process. However, that put me in a pickle. I headed to the nearby local store where I stumbled upon the Lincoln and Hobart Mig Wire. Hesitatingly, I got both for my welding needs.

To be honest, Hobart and Lincoln have been my favorite since the time I’ve ventured into welding. Since then, there was no looking back! Before we dive into the differences between Lincoln and Hobart Mig Wire, let’s take a brief look at the two models.
The Lincoln Mig Wire finds a home in many DIY welders and enthusiasts because of its user-friendly aspect. It allows you to weld up to 5/16 inches, which makes it highly versatile. As such, they are perfect for all your indoor welding needs, thanks to their gas shielded welding wire. I’ve used this to weld sheet metals and was pretty satisfied with its exceptional results.
Hobart Mig Wire is pretty popular among hobbyists and small workshop owners for no surprising reasons. What impresses me the most is its versatility, reliability, and user-friendly aspect. Whether you have to weld thin metals or rugged suspension parts, Hobart Mig Wire is perfect for all your needs. I use this in my garage to repair the rust holes, and it works great.
Both Lincoln and Hobart are great options for all DIY welders. While using the two wires for quite some time, I’ve noticed how similar they are to each other in terms of performance and functionality.
So, let’s cut the chase and see how the two perform in other areas.
First off, let me tell you that these wires are formulated for use on different surfaces. The Lincoln Mig Wire is ideal for use on clean surfaces free of dirt, grease, or rust. Meanwhile, the Hobart Mig Wire works perfectly for all your agricultural and onsite welding.
Having said that, I use the Hobart one for all my garage welding needs, while the Lincoln one performs well for automotive repair.
Although the two Mig Wires offer excellent welds, certain features of Lincoln stand in stark contrast to that of Hobart Mig Wires. While the Lincoln features a wire spool, I had to purchase one separately for Hobart. As such, if you decide to go for Hobart, you’ll have to spend a bit more than what you spend on the wires.
Not only the features but the quality of these Mig Wires are different from each other. While Hobart features carbon steel, Lincoln features stainless steel wires that are coated by copper. As such, the longevity of these wires is greatly influenced by these materials.
For me, the Lincoln Mig Wires lasted longer than the Hobart wires. Plus, due to poor packaging, the Hobart wires are damaged easily. Thus, the Lincoln Mig Wire stands ahead of the Hobart wires.
Welding is a messy affair because of the spatters produced during welding. Spatters are usually the little blob of molten material that is produced while welding at the welding arc. As such, I suggest you choose the wire that generates the lowest amount of spatters for your safety.
Nevertheless, I prefer the Lincoln Mig Wires because they make welding less messy by generating minimal spatters. But that doesn’t mean Hobart isn’t good. Although it generates more spatters than the Lincoln wires, it is versatile enough to weld almost anything I throw at it. The more the spatter, the faster the drag - that’s what I’ve learned by using Hobart Mig Wires.
Not all the expensive brands in the market are worth the hype. Are you like me, who thinks spending more shall get you the best? Let me tell you, you’re laboring under a delusion.
You can get the best welding wires without spending a fortune. And, when it comes to the two wires, I noticed the Hobart is slightly easy on my pocket compared to the Lincoln Mig wires. However, the Lincoln Mig Wires, because of their quality, are worth every penny spent.
As such, all the DIYers and enthusiasts looking for a budget-buy must go for Hobart Mig Wires, while the Lincoln ones would be ideal for the workshop owners.

Speaking from experience, both the models are some of the best ones you’ll find on the market. Although the Lincoln Mig Wire edges over the Hobart, the Hobart Mig Wire doesn’t fail to put up a brave fight.
