The other day I was in the kitchen cleaning my pans after a hearty meal. When I turned the sink faucet off, the water was still leaking through. Now, I faced this issue after a very long time indeed, so after a bit of tinkering, I asked my husband for some insight.
Together we found that the faucet cartridge was damaged and needed a quick replacement.
Later that day, I searched online for the best faucet cartridges and shortlisted between the Moen 1200 and Moen 1225. During my research, I realized that many people were unsure about which option to select and whether one was better than the other. That is when I decided to compare the two in this short article. The Moen 1200 cartridge is made entirely of brass, while the 1225 model is made of a combination of brass, copper, and stainless steel. Also, the latter has a polyphenylene shell on the outer structure.
Since the 1225 model is built using stainless steel, it is pretty sturdy and durable. But, if you compare it with the 1200 cartridge design, there is a slight difference. The 1200 model is far stronger and lasts longer than any other Moen product.
Although both the products are reasonably priced, the Moen 1225 cartridge is much cheaper than other models out there.
The Moen 1200 is one of the earliest models which has a strong build, premium faucet construction and is easy to install. Due to their tough and durable brass covering, they are most often used as a replacement for a faulty cartridge. You don’t need to worry about fittings because they are compatible with all Moen kitchen and bathroom fixtures.
Furthermore, this model has the ability to twist to 180 degrees and change the temperature from hot to cold in seconds. The Moen 1200 also comes with a one-year warranty support. These features make it the perfect choice for repairs.
The other option for replacing a damaged faucet cartridge that I checked was the Moen 1225, which has excellent value for money. Repair your leaky faucets with this easy-to-install fixture which lasts for years at a time. The design is pretty simple, yet effective featuring a bent cap to remove or reinstall on your own without consulting a professional.
Compared to the other brands on the market, this model is the most budget-friendly and provides a good product for its price. Additionally, you get a lifetime replacement warranty at the time of purchase.
Here are a few factors that I think can be used to compare the two. Let’s see if one turns out to be better than the other.
When it comes to design, Moen 1200 is one of the early designs that is widely used despite other models being released after it. The Moen 1225, on the other hand, is a newer version that is compatible with most modern faucets. The newer one has a handle with the ability to rotate at 180 degrees, and it’s easier to switch between hot and cold water.
This was an essential factor for me since I didn’t want another faulty faucet that needs to be replaced frequently. Many would agree with me that it’s better to buy a high-quality daily utility item like a faucet once, even if it’s slightly pricey. Anyway, when these two options are compared, I would say the Moen 1200 stood out as somewhat more sturdy.
Since this model has a brass covering all around, it makes the product more durable. That’s not to say the 1225 model is flimsy since it is made of strong stainless steel and plastic on the outside. Also, the plastic portion is transparent, enabling you to see beneath the part made of brass.
When it comes to installing them for repair, both the Moen 1200 and the 1225 were designed to fit quickly. The Moen 1200 fit easily in the faucet, and the overall brass covering did not get damaged with the repair process.
On the other hand, the Moen 1225 comes with a bent cap feature that allows easier removal and reinstallation. I think both the models are evenly matched when it comes to installing and replacing.
After comparing the two side by side, does one indeed end up as a better option? Or are they evenly matched? In the end, I thought the differences were minute, and both faucet cartridges are almost entirely similar, yet I had a favorite. For my damaged kitchen faucet, I chose the Moen 1200 cartridge.
I ended up with this selection for the simple reason that the overall construction and build of the 1200 model are more durable. However, I did contemplate this decision because the Moen 1225 cartridge was cheaper. Ultimately, I decided to go with a long-lasting product, even if it costs a little more.
So, here I come to the end of the comparison between the Moen 1200 and the Moen 1225. Both the series are pretty good in their own place, and many of their features overlap. This was expected because both of them belong to the same brand and perform identical functions.
