How To Connect Garden Hose To PVC

When it comes to a typical garden hose, usually, they come with ¾-inch thread connectors. There is a female end on the hose which you need to connect to the water supply. Typically, you need to connect the hose to the spigot for getting the water supply.

When it comes to an outdoor faucet, brass or metal is used to make that. As I mentioned earlier, the incoming water supply pipe connects with the faucet. If the water supply pipe is made of PVC, you need to use an adapter that comes with thread.

Before starting the whole process, you need to turn off the water supply. Below I am showing you all the steps that you need to follow to get the job done.

Step 1- Cut and Support the Pipe:

  • At first, you need to cut one end of the PVC pipe. You can use a hacksaw to cut that part. While cutting, make sure that there are at least 2-inches of space for the adapter. Besides, be careful when using a hacksaw to avoid any unexpected accident.
  • After performing the cut, use sandpaper to deburr the pipe’s end. You can also do it by using a file. Now, it’s time to place the pipe in a solid space. For instance, you can use house sliding to place it by using clamps. If the pipe is not disturbing you much, you don’t need to do that though.

Step 2: Glue-On the Adapter

  • Needless to say, this step is pretty much important. Take utmost care while doing this step. First of all, take PVC primer and spread it on the outside of the pipe’s end. Take a male-threaded adapter and also apply primer on its inside.

You can use the applicator that comes with the packages when applying primer. Also, make sure that the adapter comes with a slip connection so that it can fit the pipe at its one end. The other end of the adapter should be connected with the ¾-inch pipe threads.

  • Now, it’s time for applying PVC glue. Make sure that you have applied it properly to the pipe’s outside and the adapter’s inside.
  • At this point, you must slip the adapter properly onto the pipe and twist it correctly. You should complete this particular step as soon as possible. Otherwise, the glue might get set up in no time.

Pro Tips: Make sure that you are planning to connect a PVC male adapter with a female spigot. Otherwise, the adapter may end up cracking inside.

Step 3: Connect PVC to The Garden Hose

  • At this point, you must apply plumbing taps around the male adapter’s thread. It is important to make the seal waterproof.
  • Attach the spigot with the adapter and make sure that you have tightened it properly. You can use a wrench for tightening it perfectly. You can use adjustable pliers to hold the pipe while screwing the faucet.
  • Now, you should turn off the spigot or faucet and turn the water on. Check for any leak. Do a quick water test two or three times to get the assurance that there is no leak.
  • At this point, you need to connect the hose with the faucet. Tighten the connection properly. Now turn the faucet on and you should be able to use the garden hose without any hassle.
