From playing games to attending online classes, we use laptops for almost everything.
But, what if one morning you wake up only to find out that the power button of your laptop isn’t responding anymore? Sounds scary, isn’t it?
One fine day, our neighbor, Angelina, came rushing to me because the power button of her laptop wasn’t responding. She had a business meeting to attend, and her laptop decided to give up moments before the call.
Therefore, I handed her my laptop for the immediate virtual meeting she had. Next, I sat down with her laptop and decided to fix it. Nearly a decade ago, my father had fixed my laptop. Thus, I called my father and asked him for solutions to fix Angelina’s laptop.
After that, I sat with her laptop and tried the tricks my father shared with me. Within the next few hours, the laptop turned on. That’s when I decided to curate a guide on how to turn on laptop without power button. Hi! I’m Stacy Smith, and today I’m back with yet another interesting guide just for you.
So, without further ado, let’s jump right into the deets!
How To Turn On Laptop Without Power Button
Laptops are just like other machines. With regular usage, they might get damaged. So, what do you do when your precious laptop isn’t turning on? Of course, most of us rush to the service center.
But, what if you’re in Angelina’s position who doesn’t have time to rush to the service center? That’s when this guide walks in. I’ve mentioned a few ways that I’ve learned from my father to turn on your laptop without a power button. Use whichever method you want and have fun. Move on and take a look.
1. Motherboard Method
By far, one of the easiest ways to pull apart your laptop. Scary, but that’s what my father suggested I do. Don’t worry; you will have to do this to turn on your laptop using the motherboard.
But, before that, make sure you try switching it on through the power button. After that, take a screwdriver, remove the laptop case, and search for the power button. Remove the power button, and you will come across a few pins. Give it a shot using the screwdriver, and ta-da! Your laptop will be up and running again.
However, keep in mind that if the battery of your laptop is dry, your laptop may not run. Therefore, connect the charger and repeat the process.
Although this is one of the easiest tricks that I learned from my father, it can be slightly challenging for some. Since you’re dealing with a precious electronic item, I suggest you ask for help from those experts in such repairs. Also, do this in a clean environment and make sure you follow safety measures to avoid any accident
2. Sim Ejector
Yes, you read it right! When my father told me about this method, I was pretty amused. But, hands down, your laptop will begin working with just a single click.
Get your hands on a sim ejector, and insert it within the bias hole that you’ll find on the side of the laptop. Keep holding it, and within seconds the screen will light up. Next, either press the “ESC button” or click on the startup option. Voila! Your laptop will be turned on.
3. Keyboard Method
This is my favorite method to turn on the laptop when my power button isn’t functioning. But, hold on! You must have an external keyboard attached to your laptop via Bluetooth. That’s when this method will come in handy.
However, if you have no external keyboards connected to your laptop, don’t panic, for there’s a way to connect it. Such external keyboards feature a dedicated power button. Thus, you can press that key, and your laptop will turn on in no time. But, this method has its limitations as it isn’t compatible with MAC keyboards and a few Windows keyboards.
4. Opening The Lid
Apart from these, you can also turn on your laptop using the lid. I learned this trick just a few days ago while browsing the internet. So, I decided to give it a shot. To check the authenticity of this method, I used my son’s old laptop. Believe me, it worked wonders.
First off, go to the bios menu and click the advanced menu. Select the power management tab, and there you need to click on “power on” when the lid is open. However, you must keep in mind that this method will work only when you adjust these settings while the laptop is working just fine.
Therefore, I recommend you do this while your laptop is working fine to avoid any difficulty in the future.
5. Wall Socket And Extension
When the power button decides to give up, you can turn on your laptop using this wall socket and extension method.
When my father shared this method, I instantly knew that I’d be using it. To begin with, you will have to disassemble the motherboard using a screwdriver. Next, exhaust the battery of your laptop. Plug the inlet of the charger into the socket to turn on the laptop. After that, you can plug in the battery.

Final Words
If your laptop has become just another piece of brick due to power button failure, then don’t worry! It’s time you try the above mentioned steps to turn them on. Needless to say, turning on Angelina’s laptop without the power button wasn’t a daunting task.
Power button failure isn’t a freakish thing. It’s pretty common. Therefore, you don’t need to lose sleep over such trivial issues. However, even after several attempts, these methods don’t work out, so head to the service center to get the problem diagnosed.
Thus, it’s time to wrap my guide. I hope you enjoyed reading it, just as I enjoyed writing it for you. Before I bring the curtains down, I want to ask you a question: which method did you guys try? Let me know in the comment box.
