Having a skater in the house can lead to a lot of unique decisions in terms of décor in a room.
I remember when my son started to really get into skating, he would look for cool board designs that he wanted to display in his room. Mounting a board to the wall is a great way to show off a hobby while adding a unique aesthetic to the room.
In my opinion, the many beautiful designs available are on the same level as art, so I had no protests against his decision. However, when I looked into how I could securely attach the board to the wall, it became evident I still had much to learn.
There were a number of methods and techniques to hang a board to the wall. Finding one that my son liked involved trial and error, with a few valuable lessons learned along the way.
Howdy, y’all! Stacy Smith here to help readers confused about how to hang a skateboard on the wall. I have gathered a few of the best and easiest methods that you can do in minutes.
With that being said, let’s get right into it!
1. Wall Mounts
Wall mounts sold by skate shops are an incredibly straightforward way to get your favorite board on the wall. These are sold in packs with all the necessary parts included. All you need is a drill or screwdriver, and you’re good to go.
If you don’t want to fiddle around with a DIY approach, using an all-in-one wall mount kit could be right for you. The included instructions are easy to follow and most kits have a similar procedure for the most part.
A. Installing Wall Mounts
To use a wall mount, drill a hole into the wall for the plastic anchor that will hold the board. Next, align the hole of the board with the hole in the wall and secure it with a screw. This piece is what the board will use to support itself.
At this point, the board should be aligned properly, and all that is left is to secure it to the wall. There should be two bolts that are included in the wall mount kit that will help users secure the board.
Screw these bolts onto the top screw holes on the board, attaching them to the wall mount. And do the same to attach the bottom half of the mount to the board. These bolts are what keeps the board from wobbling side to side on the mount.
Finally, use a pair of T-nuts to ensure the board isn’t hitting the wall and causing damage or chipping paint. The T nuts act as a buffer of sorts to create a slight gap between the board and the wall while keeping the board securely attached.

2. Fishing Line
A fishing line is another excellent and affordable method to hang a board onto a wall. They are thin and transparent, so they are not visible after the board has been set up. It is an almost imperceptible look that allows the board’s design to really stand out.
Before working with the fishing line, you should remove the trucks from the board. These can get in the way of the fishing line later and may slightly block the view of the board’s design.
Use pliers to hold the trucks while unhinging them from the top of the board with a screwdriver. Repeat this step on every truck’s screws until they are all removed.
A. Installing Fishing Line
Now that you have a clean board, you can begin feeding the fishing line through the screw holes in the deck. Start with a foot of line through one pair of adjacent holes at one end of the board. Keep in mind the board will be aligned with the holes that have a fishing line passing through them on top.
Align the board with the bottom side facing up and push the line through one hole. Then bring the fishing line back up through the adjacent hole and tie the ends together. Make sure you have as tight of a knot as possible, so the fishing line doesn’t come undone.
With a completed loop of fishing line on one end of the board, you are now ready to hang it up on the wall. Make sure there is a slight gap between the knot of the fishing line and the board, so it has space to hang.
Hanging the board on the wall can be done with any fixture you want. One common method is a wall hook that uses an adhesive back to stick to the wall.
Simply hang the fishing line from the hook, and you’re all set. This doesn’t leave any holes in the wall while maintaining a secure grip that is easy to apply.
Another tried, and true method is simply hammering a nail into the wall. To have as clean of an installation as possible, hammer the nail until the head is nearly flush against the wall. This maximizes the nail’s grip while allowing you to hang the fishing line.
Wrapping Up
With either of these methods, you will be able to display your favorite board designs on the wall.Â
Wall mounts are the way to go for a floating effect, not to mention how easy they are to install. However, if you are on a budget or simply want a more personal touch to displaying your boards, using a fishing line offers a clean look as well.Â
Regardless of how you choose to display your skateboards, the passion for sharing a hobby is an idea that I fully endorse. These boards are not just a pastime but a lifestyle for skaters.Â
Living that life to the fullest is a beautiful thing that is reflected by displaying their favorite boards. Until next time; I’ll be back to discuss another interesting topic!
