Any Southwesterner would agree that Arizona has the best climate for growing and fertilizing citrus. 

Well, thanks to the combination of well-drained soil and warm sunshine. But that’s not enough; in order to get the best results, you need to know when to fertilize the citrus and how to take care of it. And that’s what I am going to talk about in this article.

When To Fertilize Citrus In Arizona? 

You can plant most citrus plants at any time of the year. But having said that, planting them in the early fall or spring allows them to stabilize the roots before the harsher weather strikes. Preferably, you should plant these trees in September or October or wait until March and April of the next year to get the desired results. 

However, keep in mind that sometimes the sun can get too hot in places such as Arizona, which can cause the citrus trees to bear unusable fruits. Not to mention the common soil problems that can further spill water on your efforts of fertilizing citrus. That’s why, besides knowing when to fertilize citrus, you must know how to care for the plant. 

How To Care For Your Citrus Plants? 

Here, I have mentioned some of the best ways to care for your citrus plant: 

1. Be Mindful Of The Watering Schedule 

More often, problems with citrus plants occur because of improper watering. Since most of the rainfall in this part of the world occurs in the latter part of the summer, you need to create a proper watering schedule for your new plants. 

I recommend watering them about every three days during the hottest time of the summer. After that, you can bring it down to once a week once the temperature starts falling. 

2. Make Sure The Water Reaches The Roots 

In order to make the fruits juicier, you need to water the plants long enough so that the water reaches its roots. Just mere splashes won’t do any good to the plants. You can also consider using an irrigation system or a soaker hose to ensure that the plants are being watered slowly to a proper depth. 

3. Fertilize 

You need not fertilize the new plants, given the soil in your yard is healthy enough to sustain their growth. However, as the plants get older, they should be fertilized at least three times a year, ideally in August, May, and February.
