How To Keep Squirrels Away From Mango Trees

Squirrels might look adorable, but they can wreak havoc on fruit-bearing trees in your garden.

These critters not only eat the young fruit bulbs and unripe fruits but can damage the tree itself by chewing on the bark. Thus, squirrel-proofing your mango trees can keep them safe from these rodents.

Today, I’m going to share with you some of the best squirrel proofing methods here, so let’s get started!

Most Effective Methods Of Squirrel-Proofing Fruit Trees

1. Water Jets

One of the safest methods of repelling squirrels, water jets can scare squirrels away from fruit trees and other plants.

There are different models available on the market, and most have built-in motion sensors. When installed near mango and other fruit trees, these spray hot water as soon as they detect any motion, scaring squirrels and other pests away.

2. Rodent Repellents

You can get organic rodent repellents from the market to drive away squirrels as well as other pests. What’s more impressive is that such repellents are completely safe for your trees, plants, and the rodents.

The smell will keep most rodents, including squirrels, away from that area when you spray the repellent near the fruit trees.

3. Squirrel Netting

Using squirrel nettings is a popular method of protecting mango trees without harming the rodents. The most effective nettings are those that have a thicker outer material for protecting the trees.

So, make sure to cover the mango trees using the netting from all sides, as even a tiny gap is enough for the squirrels to enter and reach the trees.

4. Fake Predators

While it may sound dubious, using fake predators to scare squirrels away from fruit trees can provide excellent results. You can get natural-looking predators such as owls or snakes from the market and place them near the fruit trees.

Also, keep changing the place of these predators occasionally so that they seem real.

5. Squirrel Baffles

Squirrel baffles are generally used to prevent squirrels from getting to bird feeders but can also be used to protect fruit trees. The baffles are dome or cone-shaped and are generally made of plastic or similar materials.

For best results, install the baffle at an appropriate height which will prevent the squirrels from jumping over them. Hence, make sure that the baffles are at least four feet from the ground.

6. Alternate Food Source

Another safe way to protect your mango trees is by providing squirrels with an alternate food source in a spot away from the trees. You can place a mixture of nuts and seeds in a different area of the garden to draw them away from the mango trees.

Final Words

Now that you know how to keep squirrels away from mango trees experiment with the different techniques to find out which ones are most effective. All these are nonlethal methods that will not harm the squirrels, and you can even use more than one method at the same time.

That’s all for today, see you next time!
