Top 5 Loppers Reviews

1. Fiskars 391461 Bypass Lopper

Fiskars 391461 Bypass Lopper

One of the first products I wish to introduce you to is the Bypass Lopper from Fiskars. This renowned brand has been manufacturing gardening tools for years and this is one of the top-rated products on the market. Wondering if it's suitable for you? Let's find out.

Product Highlights

The Fiskars 391461 Bypass Lopper is one of the best tools on the market to trim and cut shrubs, trees, and branches. Its hardened steel blades are super durable and robust, cutting through almost all kinds of wood. Furthermore, the blade surface has a special coating that prevents it from getting stuck in wood, enabling it to slide through easily for cutting.

Next, the long handles are comfortable to hold for prolonged periods without causing hand fatigue. The manufacturers have also added shock-absorbing bumpers that absorb most of the jarring that occurs at the end of the cut. This added safety feature is excellent for both amateurs and professionals.

Finally, the manufacturer provides a full lifetime warranty on the product, redefining your trust in the brand. Those looking for a relatively lightweight lopper that is easy to handle for extended periods can consider this product.

What's There To Like About It?

Personally, I loved the super soft and velvety coating on the handles. They provided an excellent grip that is much-needed when working with tools outside. Even without my safety gloves, I noticed that the lopper did not slip from my grip, which is a huge plus point, in my opinion.

YARTTING DD1008

One of the last products I tested and thoroughly enjoyed using was the YARTTING DD1008. This tool is packed with excellent features that make it one of my favorite loppers to use. Here are all my findings about this product.

Product Highlights

Although several varieties of anvil loppers are on the market, their low-quality blades and uncomfortable handles make them difficult for long-term use. After a lot of research, I came across this lopper from YARTTING, which was a pleasure to use for all kinds of yard work.

This lopper can efficiently cut through branches that are 1 ⅗-inch in diameter. Its anti-slip, durable blades ensure that you get a clean, precise cut every single time. Furthermore, it features a compound action lever system that increases the force applied to the blade by 50%. This effectively reduces the amount of strength you need to apply, preventing arm and shoulder injury or fatigue.

Another brilliant aspect of this product is its 4-point lever system, that offers optimal precision with every cut. In addition, this unique lever system enables you to make 3 times stronger cuts without applying too much force.

Cons

  • The customer support department needs to improve

Buyers Guide

Whew! Now that you know about my top five recommendations, are you ready to make a choice? If yes, congratulations on your brand new lopper! However, if you are yet to decide on the best product for your needs, don't fret.

I have compiled a short buyer's guide that can help you choose the best lopper for your needs. Consider these factors thoroughly before picking the right product.

Take a look!

1. Type Of Blade

One of the first and most important decisions to make is the type of blade you want on your loppers. As such, there are two primary options on the market - Bypass Loppers and Anvil Loppers.

As the name may tell you, Bypass Loppers consists of two blades that move in a scissor-like motion. These are the more commonly used blades for most loppers and are quite easy to use. Moreover, its scissor-like design ensures that you get the cleanest, most precise cuts without injuring the tree or branches

That being said, these blades are notorious for getting jammed while working on dry or dead branches and twigs. Also, unless the blade quality is very high, you may notice the blades bending out of shape.

On the other hand, Anvil Loppers have a straight blade that closes its jaw on a flat surface, much like a guillotine. This kind of blade is ideal for dead and dried twigs and leaves. Moreover, they allow you to work on thicker branches and limbs compared to Bypass Loppers.

Depending on the kind of cuts you wish to make (and the kind of trees and shrubs you want to work on), the choice between the two blades may vary.

2. Telescopic Handles

Are you tired of lugging a heavy ladder all over the yard to chop the hard-to-reach branches and tree limbs? Opting for a lopper with a telescopic handle may be the right choice.

As such, ensure that you check the extension length of the lopper’s telescopic handle before purchasing it. Moreover, it is vital to check customer reviews and feedback to ensure that the extendable handles are smooth, ergonomic, and easy to use.

You may also need to clean and oil the blades and handles regularly to maintain it in optimal condition. If you aren't willing to invest in a regular maintenance routine for the lopper, I recommend looking for one that is relatively low maintenance.

In case you’re opting for non-extendable handles, ensure that you check its length beforehand. This should give you a relatively good idea about how far you can reach with the lopper. Moreover, keep in mind that longer handles typically provide more leverage and are easier to use than shorter ones.

3. Grip

One of the most important factors that I considered before purchasing a lopper was its grip. As such, you will find a variety of grips on the market - from soft silicon covers to rubber, textured grips, or anti-slip grips.

Although the soft grips are much easier to handle and provide comfort during prolonged yard work, they are also more prone to damage. On the other hand, hard, textured grips can be slightly uncomfortable to use for extended periods but are pretty durable.

You can consider opting for anti-slip grips as it ensures that you don't have accidents during cutting. Moreover, I recommend checking the size of the grips to ensure that they are a comfortable fit for your hand size.

4. Weight

The total weight of a lopper will depend on the type of handles it has. While aluminum or fiberglass handles are typically lightweight and portable, steel handles can be quite heavy for prolonged cutting. Wood handles fall somewhere in between the two and are an excellent option.

That being said, steel handles are robust and durable. These handles can last for years, as long as you take proper care to clean and maintain them. Aluminum loppers are very easy to handle because of their lightweight properties. With proper upkeep, even aluminum handle loppers can last for years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Now that I have come to the end of my buying guide, it's time to answer some of the most commonly asked questions about loppers. I hope this short FAQ section solves most of your queries.

1. Is An Anvil Lopper Better Than A Bypass Lopper?

Anvil and Bypass Loppers each have their place in yard work. While Anvil loppers are excellent for cutting dead or drying twigs, branches, leaves, and tree limbs, Bypass Loppers are better for maintaining the health of your tree. Moreover, Bypass Loppers offer clean, consistent cuts.

2. How Do I Maintain My Lopper?

It is best to stick to a regular cleaning and maintenance routine to increase the lifespan of your lopper. As such, I recommend cleaning the surface of the blades with a non-abrasive cleaner after each use. Also, it is best to use non-rust oil to ensure that the blades are in optimal working condition.

3. Do I Need An Extendable Lopper?

It depends on the kind of cutting work you require in your yard. For example, if you are looking to trim shrubs and low branches on trees, you don't necessarily require an extendable handle lopper. However, if you plan to cut branches and limbs high up on trees, I recommend opting for a lopper with a telescopic handle.

My Final Recommendation

With that, we have finally reached the end of my guide. I hope you enjoyed reading this, and I wish you all the best in finding the right lopper for yard work.

Before I sign off, I want to mention a few of my favorite products. Overall, I liked the Fiskars 391461 Bypass Lopper because of its good quality blades and non-slip handles. However, those looking for a lopper with extendable handles can consider the THANOS Extendable Lopper or the Corona SL 4364

Ensure that you research thoroughly on the best way to use a lopper before purchasing one, especially if you are a first-time user. And do let me know if you agree with my verdict in the comments below.

Until next time!
