Top 5 Orchid Pots Reviews

1. rePotme 4316318567

rePotme 4316318567

One of my top recommendations is from the brand rePotme, which was introduced to me by my neighbor. It's a set of 8 pots (2 each of 4 different sizes) available in 4 colors, but the variation doesn’t compromise on durability.

Product Highlights

Since I have bought quite a few of these for my son and other family members, I always make it a point to go through the customer reviews to see if there’s any change in quality. And the feedback hasn’t disappointed me so far. Not only does the sturdy plastic construction ensure better longevity, but it also makes them look pretty high-end.

This set has 2 pots each for 3 inches, 4 inches, 5 inches, and 6 inches slots, meaning you don’t have to buy separate pots during the development of the plant. Moreover, they are suitable for almost any orchid type, including African violets and succulents.

The bottom of the pots is equipped with as many as 46 slots that maintain the right moisture and air circulation levels. Besides, they’re slightly raised in the center that further assists the drainage process. At its price, there’s hardly anything more that I could have asked for.

What’s There To Like About It?

One of the first things that grabbed my attention was the reinforced outer rim that makes for a sturdy frame. My husband has a tendency to hold my flower pots by the rim, and I’m often worried that they might break, but not with these! On top of that, the material facilitates UV protection, making them last longer during outdoor use.

You can even “nest” two different-sized pots together to adjust the slot opening as required. Plus, you can put them inside other decorative pots.

What’s There Not To Like About It?

The design is such that they don’t taper at the bottom, so you may have some trouble placing them inside the regular decorative pots. I suggest opting for larger decorative pots and using gravels or foam at the bottom to increase the height. However, this won’t be much of an inconvenience.

Pros and Cons of rePotme 4316318567

Pros

  • Plant safe material
  • Compatible with all potting mixes
  • UV protected
  • Floor mounting or standalone design

Cons

  • May not fit decorative pots precisely

2. Truedays Clear Orchid Pots

Truedays Clear Orchid Pots

Up next is this set of 4 pots from Truedays, which has become extremely popular among experienced and first-time orchid growers alike. I heard about this brand on the episodes of the “Epic Gardening” podcast and wanted to give it a try. So, read on to know the details!

Product Highlights

First things first, unlike its predecessor, this set comprises four same-sized pots made of sturdy plastic material. The pots measure 3.7 inches long while the upper and bottom diameters measure 5.5 inches and 3.7 inches, respectively. Long story short, it has enough space to accommodate your orchids.

Furthermore, the clear plastic construction lets you keep an eye on the root growth and soil breakdown. Hence, you get a clear idea about when to change and water the soil or if the roots are under stress. The entire structure is equipped with the right amount of holes at the right places for better aeration and moisture drainage.

I also like that the bottom has an even design so that the pots stand firmly on different surfaces, be it on the ground or window shelf. And you can easily wash them with some soap and water for reuse.

What’s There To Like About It?

Among other things, I am very impressed with the distribution and placement of the holes that ensure proper root control.

While there are 18 holes on the sides, the bottom has a dozen slits to prevent the risk of waterlogging. But this doesn’t come at the cost of losing the soil or potting mix. I placed a couple of these pots atop planting saucers, and there was practically no soil loss during watering. So, bonus points for that!

What’s There Not To Like About It?

Perhaps the only thing that can bother potential buyers is the price, which may seem a bit more as there are no variations in sizes or colors. However, I feel that the sturdiness, longevity, and reusability on offer make that initial slightly expensive investment worth it. Rest assured that your orchids will thrive and prosper!

Pros and Cons of Truedays Clear Orchid Pots

Pros

  • Clear PP plastic makes for easy observation
  • Supports adequate aeration and drainage
  • Retains soil while watering
  • Reusable

Cons

  • A tad bit expensive

  • Orchid Planter: 5.5 inches orchid plastic pot provide enough growth space for your orchid roots. Large tall orchid pots could be used for a long time.

3. Meshpot Plastic Orchid Pot

Meshpot Plastic Orchid Pot

If you want to try something new in orchid pots, then consider this unit from Meshpot. It's a premium product from a brand that has earned a reputation for its distinct design. And honestly, that’s what compelled me to try it in the first place.

Product Highlights

Starting with the build material, it’s made from food-grade PP plastic that’s non-toxic for plants. And although I haven’t used it for very long, the brand claims that it can last for up to a decade with outdoor use. So, it’d be safe to tick off longevity from your must-have list. Plus, you can use it for other common plants like succulents or cactus.

Now, coming to the most important factor, it has a double layer design that comprises a colander-like structure inside a solid plastic pot. Both these structures have sufficient vents or holes to take care of aeration and drainage. In fact, I’ve used the inner pot with other pots as well, and it worked just fine.

Additionally, the set includes a saucer so that you don’t have trouble placing it on different surfaces. If budget isn't a big constraint, then you can go for this set.

What’s There To Like About It?

I absolutely loved how the inner pot locks inside the outside pot, but you can pull it apart with minimum effort. Moreover, the base is such that it becomes compatible with many decorative pots even without the locking mechanism.

The drainage holes on the bottom serve the dual purpose of maintaining drainage and guiding the roots vertically in the right direction. This is a great feature for people who may not have a lot of time to look after their plants.

What’s There Not To Like About It?

As I’ve already mentioned, the price can be an issue, especially considering that you will find a set of 3 or 4 pots at lower prices. Other than that, I did experience some difficulty in unlocking the inner pot as some soil had collected between the bases of the two pots.

Pros and Cons of Meshpot Plastic Orchid Pot

Pros

  • Food-grade plastic
  • Twist and lock inner pot
  • Compatible saucer
  • Available in black and white colors

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Locking may be difficult if soil collects at the bottom

4. Elit Orchid Pots

Elit Orchid Pots

After back-to-back expensive picks, I thought it’d be better to give you a break with the most affordable unit on my list today. Presenting the Elit orchid pots that are meant to be light and breathable for your precious orchids, without, of course, burning a hole in your pocket!

Product Highlights

You’re not wrong if you’re guessing that the price is a factor behind picking up this set. It caught my eye when a gardener was reviewing this on Youtube (but since it was an ad, I couldn’t find the channel later). And I was really interested to know if it could perform well.

I was rather surprised to see that even at its price, the design left no stone unturned to keep my orchids in the best shape. Firstly, the lightweight plastic ensures that the sides or bottoms don’t press on the roots of the plants. Besides, there are quite a few holes to drain away excess moisture while ensuring air circulation.

Depending on the size of the plants, you can choose from 3 different sizes (upper diameters), viz., 4.5 inches, 5.5 inches, and 6.5 inches. While the 4.5-inch set has 6 pots, the 5.5-inch set has 4, 7, and 10 pots. Lastly, the 6.5-inch variant has 4 packs.

What’s There To Like About It?

I appreciate how the lightweight construction means that the pots don’t weigh very heavy even with all the soil and plants. Just for the sake of it, I changed the placement of the fully loaded pot a few times, and I didn’t observe the plastic cracking or coming apart. And since it's completely transparent, you can see everything going on at the base.

On that note, the base is pretty flat so that the pot can sit comfortably on most surfaces. Plus, you can pair it with other pots.

What’s There Not To Like About It?

The only thing that bummed me out a little was that I had to poke some holes to enhance the drainage and aeration processes. I’d suggest using a slightly heated screwdriver (with care) for this purpose. However, there is a possibility that you might not have to put in this extra effort if you opt for the smaller sizes.

Pros and Cons of Elit Orchid Pots

Pros

  • Clear, lightweight plastic
  • Flat bottom
  • Comes in different sizes
  • Very affordable

Cons

  • The large-sized pots may need extra holes
Orchid Pots with Holes Cymbidium Phalaenopsis Orchid Pot Indoor Clear Plastic Vanda Plant Pots Set (5.5 inch) 140 mm
  • ULTRA BREATHABLE – Ideal Aeration Ensures Long and Active Flowering of Orchids
  • IDEAL DRAINAGE - Always the Right Level of Substrate Moisture
  • VISUAL CONTROL - Transparent Plastic Pot Provides Perfect Control Over the Condition of the Roots

5. Mkono Plastic Orchid Pots

Mkono Plastic Orchid Pots

Before wrapping up this list, here are the Mkono plastic orchid pots making an entry. Sporting a similar design to that of the Meshpot orchid pot, it comes in a set of two planters with two inner and two outer pots. What’s more, the all-white structure goes well with all color pallets.

Product Highlights

Like all of my other recommendations, this set is also made from high-quality plastic that makes it last for the years to come. Additionally, the white matte-finishing, especially on the outer pot, renders a ceramic appearance. I have had many guests mistaking these for high-end ceramic planters, which obviously I don’t mind!

The inner pot is practically designed like a strainer so that the soil doesn’t retain any excess moisture. Apart from that, it helps in the uniform, lateral growth of roots, thereby ensuring that there are no clots or clumps. Likewise, the outer pot has more than half a dozen holes to help with air circulation.

You can lock the two pots together with a simple twist; twisting in the opposite direction will unlock them. Furthermore, I could place them on different surfaces at my home without worrying about them tumbling on their own.

What’s There To Like About It?

I liked how the brand has emphasized creating a mesh-like structure for the inner pot. If you have ever used solid pots, then you’d know that they are incapable of preventing the roots from bundling up in the later stages of plant development. However, this isn’t the case with this one.

Beyond that, the other rim of both the pots facilitates comfortable gripping so that you don’t have to put a lot of strain on your hands.

What’s There Not To Like About It?

I’m very disappointed that the set I ordered didn't come with saucers, although some users have stated otherwise. Also, it may be helpful to know that it doesn’t come in different sizes, and the only size that’s on offer might be a bit taller and deeper for young plants.

Pros and Cons of Mkono Plastic Orchid Pots

Pros

  • Premium plastic build
  • White matte-finishing
  • Meshed inner pot
  • Locking mechanism

Cons

  • May not come with saucers
  • Maybe bigger for young plants
Mkono 6.3 Inch Orchid Pots with Holes, Set of 2 Plastic Slotted Planter Pots Large Orchid Pots for Repotting with Drainage Mesh for Indoor Outdoor Flower Plants and Herbs
  • Mkono Plant Pots are specifically designed for Orchidaceae, such as Orchid, Dendrobium, Cattleya. It also suitable for common plants like Peace Lily, Snake Plants, violets, and so on. Please note that plants are not included in these items.
  • Root Control Design : When plants become too big for a solid pot, roots begin to circle and choke each other, but this slotted pot can effectively guide the root to grow vertically downwards out of the vents at the sides and bottom. The nets allow more airflow to the root zone prunes the root structure and prevents circling.
  • Good Air Flow and Excellent Drainage : The holes at the sides allow for good internal air circulation and the holes in the bottom not only can provide proper drainage but also ensure the required moisture level of the substrate to promote healthy root growth.

Buyers Guide

Believe it or not but buying the best orchid pots requires more than just knowing the top options available on the market. I learned this the hard way as most of my initial purchases didn’t suit my requirements.

And so that my readers don’t have to go through the same hassle, I decided to curate an extensive buyer’s guide with the key points to remember before purchase. Dive in!

1. Material

I have picked only plastic pots for this list simply because they are more versatile and functional. Additionally, most orchid pots are made of lightweight plastic so that the weight of the pot doesn’t put the leaves and roots under stress. Moreover, plastic makes it convenient to make additional drainage holes, if necessary.

Many people also prefer using ceramic or wooden pots, which are more suitable for decorative purposes. In case you go for them, ensure that the design makes room for adequate drainage and air circulation.

2. Clarity Of Plastic

Orchids hardly compromise with the required sunlight, without which they may start drooping in no time. The key is to place them at the brightest spot of your home or garden while bringing them indoors during inclement weather.

In both these scenarios, the clear plastic of the pot will allow maximum light to penetrate the soil and reach the roots. And as long the sides are transparent, you can opt for any color according to your preference.

3. Size

Another crucial factor to consider is the size of the pot, as you definitely don’t want the plants to gasp for space. I’d suggest starting off with small-sized pots and then switch to bigger pots as the plants grow. Remember that having extra space will never hurt!

In this regard, you can also choose a set that comes with different-sized pots, which will save you from the trouble of buying pots continuously.

4. Ventilation

Without proper ventilation, even the most expensive pots and potting soil will fail to keep the plants alive. That’s why it’s extremely important to ensure that the pots have adequate holes, slits, or vents to facilitate optimum drainage air aeration but don’t let the soil seep through them.

Even if you choose to get a double-pot design, the outdoor post should have sufficient holes at the base to help the excess water flow out.

5. Stable Base

A stable base (no matter the design) is a prerequisite to making sure that the pots sit firmly on all uniform surfaces. From what I have observed, most orchid pots on the market have an inward raised center, but the surrounding sides are level to prevent them from tipping over.

6. Sturdy Outer Rim

Thanks to my husband, I have developed the habit of checking for a durable outer rim so that it doesn’t break off when handling. At the same time, it should facilitate a comfortable grip, especially when you have gloves or mittens on.

7. Quantity

If you aren’t a first-time gardener, it’s highly likely that you own multiple orchid plants. Hence, buying a set with two or more pots will be more cost-effective than buying a single pot twice or thrice.

Here, I should also mention that many brands offer as many as 4 or 6 pots at surprisingly low costs. And although it may look like an interesting prospect in the beginning, the low prices could come at the expense of compromised quality.

8. Customer Reviews

When buying orchid pots online, devote enough time to go through the customer reviews to get a thorough understanding of the quality and ventilation. Sure, a lot of websites and brands give you the option of easy exchange or returns, but as they say, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I Reuse The Orchid Pots?

Most orchid pots come with a long lifespan, meaning you can use them multiple times after proper cleaning and drying.

2. Can Orchid Pots Be Used To Grow Other Plants?

Whether you can use your orchid pots to grow other types of plants will depend on the size of the plant and the soil or potting mix. The pot shouldn’t cramp the roots, leaves, or branches, and the holes shouldn’t allow the soil to escape. Take care of these two factors, and you should be good to go.

3. How Can I Tell If The Soil Has Become Dry?

A major reason why the ventilation holes can keep the soil in the pot is because of the retained moisture. So, if you notice that the soil is seeping through the holes without moving or shaking the pot, it’s time for re-watering.

4. When Should I Repot My Orchids?

I recommend repotting the orchid plants during their active growing season to achieve the best results. In simple terms, you should repot them straight after blooming, as this is the time when the plants grow new roots or shoots. When the roots are less than an inch long, they are better equipped to prevent “transplant shock” that may later hinder growth.

My Final Recommendation

That has brought me to the end of today’s proceedings.

I know processing all that information will take time, so I will now leave you to go through everything again. But if you’re looking for a quick solution to your dilemma, then let me name my top two favorites from the list.

The rePotme 4316318567 offers both quality and variation at a budget-friendly price. On the contrary, the Meshpot Plastic Orchid Pot stands out for its unique double-layer design with a slightly expensive price tag.

Hope to see you next time. Till then, happy gardening!
