Curved vs. Straight Shower Rod

Anyone who knows me knows that I love experimenting with the look of my house.

I like to try out different styles of home fixtures, change the color of the walls, incorporate cabinets and whatnot. Since I am a DIY enthusiast, the possibilities of my mini makeovers for the house are endless. But these require time, money, and a lot of research of what is trending in the interior décor industry.

Recently, I visited a shop for bathroom fixtures and noticed multiple types of shower rods. Now I have mostly seen straight shower rods, so some of these really impressed me. I don't even remember what I went for, but I ended up getting a curved rod. Needless to say, I was impressed with the final look.

Hi there! My name is Stacy, and here’s a brief guide on curved vs. straight shower rod for you. I have curated this informative guide for everyone who is having a little trouble finalizing the look of their bathroom.

Now, without further ado, let’s get right into it!

Curved vs. Straight Shower Rod

Before we get into picking, let's discuss why you need a shower rod in the first place. I want to go over this because I once visited my friend Angelica and noticed the bathrooms in her house had no shower rods.

Quite frankly, I was a bit surprised, but on speaking to her, I realized she didn’t even know how it could help. After we talked about the benefits, she was convinced to get some for all the bathrooms in her house. So, here are a few reasons why a shower rod is needed:

1. Great Way To Separate The Shower Space

One of the first reasons is that it can help separate the shower space and gives a very clear bathroom layout for guests. Plus, if a couple is using the bathroom, it can offer more privacy without occupying the whole bathroom.

Another significant benefit of having a rod and a curtain is that it helps keep the floor dry. Irrespective of whether the curtain separates a tub or a vertical shower space, the floor is drier when the curtain is separating the area.

2. Give A Good Look Without Additional Construction

Shower rods and curtains essentially do the job of a shower cubicle without the added construction work. Also, with the number of shower curtains available in the store, you can design the bathroom based on individual taste (especially if it is a kiddie bathroom).

3. Locally Available

The best part about getting a shower rod is that they are locally available and can easily be installed by anyone. No need to hire a professional and spend a lot of money as it is a simple task.

Which Rod To Pick - Straight or Curved?

Straight

Now, who has not seen a straight shower rod? It is probably the most traditional one. A straight shower rod is quite basic and standard in almost every household. Sometimes you don't even need to buy one as the bathroom comes pre-fitted with a straight rod.

This is because these rods are pretty affordable and are more available locally as well. Another good feature about these rods is that they do not take up a lot of space, so the bathroom looks spacious.

However, they also come with some major downsides. Firstly since the rod is straight, so is the curtain. This isn’t ideal if you have a small shower space, as it may feel a bit cramped. Moreover, in a small space, the curtain is guaranteed to stick to your body.

Curved

If you are tired of looking at a basic straight rod, curved ones are an excellent option. They aren’t as common as straight rods but look chic and unique. If the rest of your bathroom sports modern décor, then a curved rod will be a better-suited option in terms of aesthetics.

Apart from looks, it is pretty beneficial utility-wise as well. One of the most important factors is that it provides more shower space. Since the rod and curtain are curved, there is much more space to move around without the curtain sticking to the body.

However, as I mentioned, they can be tough to find and expensive as well. Another thing to remember is that since the curve is towards the outside, it may make the bathroom look smaller.

Do We Have A Winner?

On comparing the two rods, I realized they aren’t too different in terms of utility. They both perform the same function, and it all comes down to the space that you have. If you have a lot of bathroom space, but the shower space is small, I suggest a curved one.

However, if the shower space is relatively large and the bathroom space is small, a straight one should be ideal. Don’t forget to keep into account the cost of the rod and curtain when finalizing a look. At the end of the day, what matters is that the bathroom space should not be compromised for a shower rod.

To Sum It Up

And there you have it, folks! A short guide to finally end the curved vs. straight shower rod battle once and for all. I hope this has offered some clarity on the subject and will allow you to make a quicker decision.

If you ask me, a curved shower rod is the best. I have two bathrooms, one with a curved rod and the other with a straight rod. And let me tell you, the curved one offers a much better look, and that bathroom looks far more elegant in my eyes. Although it was priced a bit higher, I think it is worth the investment.

On that note, I shall sign off. Let me know which one you think is better, a curved or a straight rod.

See you next time!
