How Close Can You Plant A Tree To A Stump

Removing a tree can leave a big hole both in your backyard and in your heart.

As such, you might want to plant a replacement tree on the spot where you had removed the old one. But the question is- is it possible?

Well, you shall find that answer soon in this guide on “How Close Can You Plant A Tree To A Stump,” so read it till the end.

Is It Possible To Plant A Tree On The Same Spot Your Old Tree Was?

Yes, it is possible. However, it might not be a wise thing to do. That’s because your old tree had probably stripped all the essential nutrients of the soil that a newer tree would depend on.

In addition to that, the roots of the old tree might still be there, so your new tree might not get enough room to grow. Lastly, if you removed the old tree because of some disease, the microbes could still be present in the soil, affecting your new tree.

How Close Can You Plant A Tree To A Stump?

Given all the complications of planting a tree on the same spot where your old tree was, I suggest you plant the new tree somewhere near the old tree’s stump. But make sure you choose an area that’s at least 6 feet away from the tree stump.

How To Plant A Tree To A Stump?

1. Choose A Location

Make sure you select a location that has enough room for a hole twice the size of the root of your new tree. As I mentioned before, the area needs to be at least 6 feet away from the tree stump so that the amount of work required to plant is minimum.

2. Dig Up

Then start digging a circular hole using a shovel; make sure it’s deep enough to hold the roots of your new plant. Remember to store the soil that you removed nearby on a sheet so that it can be used later.

3. Place The Plant

Next, remove any plastic container or burlap around the roots of your plants and place it in the middle of the hole. Ensure that the primary trunk of the plant is standing straight.

4. Fill Up The Space

Lastly, fill the space around the roots using the same soil you dug to create the hole. Keep filling the hole until the space is at the same level as the soil around it. Also, you must get rid of roots and other elements before you place them, or they might affect the growth of the plant.

Final Thoughts

That brings me to the end of the article.

I hope my guide onHow Close Can You Plant A Tree To A Stumphas helped you gain some valuable insights into the topic. Just remember to water the plant daily, allowing the soil to settle and making the plant grow faster.

Until next time, stay safe!
