How Do You Remove the Head of a Greenworks Trimmer?

If you’re also looking for a trimmer for overgrown grass, then the Greenworks trimmer is perfect since it’s functional and easy to use.

You might, however, need to change the trimmer head at some point. But how do you remove the head of a Greenworks trimmer? I know it sounds a little complicated, but it's as easy as pie.

So, let’s dive into the process you’ll need to follow!

How Do You Remove the Head of a Greenworks Trimmer?

The trimmer head removal procedure is relatively uncomplicated, and a few steps have to be followed in order. It’s so simple that even a middle-schooler can do it!

Tools You’ll Need

  • A Phillips screwdriver (small)
  • An adjustable wrench
  • A shop towel
  • A flathead screwdriver

Steps To Remove The Head Of A Greenworks Trimmer

Step 1

First, you’ll need to power off your Greenworks Trimmer and let it cool down. This is an essential step because working while the machine is still hot is never a good idea. You could get a nasty burn!

Also, make sure to disconnect the power cord from the main plug. If you’re using a gasoline-powered trimmer, you’ll need to disconnect the spark plug boot.

Step 2

The head of the trimmer is bound to have bits of grass and other garden debris stuck to it. Wipe it down with a towel and ensure that nothing is caught in the head.

Step 3

Now, you have to take off the bump knob on the bottom side of the trimmer head. The direction the knob moves in is determined by the model and the make of the trimmer, though I’ve noticed that it usually moves counterclockwise.

Note that the head mostly has tabs that you can press to pull the head off.

Step 4

Now, you’ve got to tug at the trimmer line spool and pull it out of the trimmer head. You’ll know it when you see it!

Step 5

Next, analyze the trimmer head and check for a tiny hole in either the outer or inner portions. If you see a hole, insert the Phillips screwdriver so that it’s held in position, and then disengage the center nut, using the adjustable wrench to do so. This should successfully get the head to come loose.

Step 6

Now, use the flatbed screwdriver to pry the head off. Use the nut on the bottom of the shaft to pull at the head, which should subsequently come off.

Final Thoughts

Now you know how to get the head off, but what if you need to affix it again? For this,  you’ll have to insert the head on the trimmer shaft.

After that, put the center nut back after blocking the holes with the Phillips screwdriver. Once that is done, you’ll have to insert the loose ends of the trimmer line spool and fasten the bump knob onto the head again.

And before I sign off- remember to wear safety eyewear, closed shoes, and long pants while removing the head. You don’t want to get hurt!

That said, I’ll be back soon with more helpful guides for you, so stay tuned!
