How Long For 24D To Work

As far as weed killers go, 24D is one of the most effective ones on the market.

24D or 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid can be used to kill broadleaf weeds in crop fields and lawns. And if you want to know how soon it takes to see noticeable results, you’ve come to the right place.

My guide will help you quickly know all about 24D, so let’s begin, shall we?

What Is 24D?

Before I talk about how long 24D takes to work, let’s first take a look at what this weed killer is and how it functions. 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic has been one of the most popular weed killers in the US for several decades.

It is absorbed by the target plants and then compels their cells to eliminate useful nutrients and water that the plants need to grow. Additionally, this ‘smart herbicide’ can distinguish between monocots and dicots, proving suitable for your gardening needs.

As a result, it does not affect monocots and only targets dicots, making it highly effective for cereal crops like maize or wheat. However, 24D may not be equally effective against all unwanted plants, and you’ll need to alter its concentration according to the target plants.

Application Ratio

Applying 24D involves mixing it with water, and the amount of water added, and the proportion in which the mixture is created determines how soon you get results. Additionally, the type of weed to be targeted and the area in which it needs to be used affects the results.

For larger areas like pastures, you will need to mix a greater quantity of the weed killer, while for smaller areas like lawns, a smaller amount should suffice. You can also use a hand sprayer for smaller areas, which can deliver promising results.

How Long Does 24D Take To Work?

The most commonly used 24D variant is the Hi-Yield 24D selective weed killer, which can take about two to four weeks to show results. At the very latest, you will be able to see the impact of this herbicide in about a month.

Weeds and unwanted plants will start dying within 48 hours of applying it, even though you may not see the results immediately. In about a fortnight, they will start showing signs of death, such as the leaves turning brown, plants wilting, and stunted growth.

One way to speed up the process is by using 24D along with a surfactant. It will ensure that the target plants absorb the mixture more effectively, delivering faster results.

Final Words

I hope I’ve answered the question, how long for 24D to work as clearly as possible. As mentioned above, it will take around two weeks before you start to see results, though it can vary slightly from plant to plant.

So, take care to use the right amount of herbicide, and you should have a flourishing garden.
