How To Break In New Cowboy Boots Fast

Cowboy boots are not just like any other boots but an important part of a country lover’s outfit.

That’s what my father told me when I was little, and I bet all southerners will agree on this. Growing up, I used to proudly wear them and go horse riding with my father. Moreover, I have always loved that cowboy boots are fashionable and are a fantastic way to flaunt my rich culture at every step.

Last week, it was my birthday, and my husband decided to get me a new pair of cowboy boots. But, unfortunately, I wasn’t able to walk in them properly. Frustrated, I called up my father for help when he shared with me some useful methods to break in new cowboy boots fast.

Hi! My name is Stacy Smith, and today I will be telling you all the methods that my father shared to get instant comfort in your new cowboy boots. So, without further delay, let’s jump right in!

How To Break In New Cowboy Boots Fast

These are the methods that you can follow to stretch your cowboy boots:

1. Drown Your Cowboy Boots In Water

Yes, you read that right. Believe it or not, this is one of the most effective ways of freeing up space in your cowboy boots. Water tends to loosen the fibers, giving the material of your cowboy boots the flexibility to hug your feet much like a glove.

Fill your bathtub with warm water and then drown the boots in it, but ensure that the water doesn’t enter the insides of your boot. What’s more, I highly recommend pressing down on the insoles of the boot so that it doesn’t float.

When the insoles of the boot start getting a little wet, pull them out of the water. Now, what you need to do is slip on some breeches or socks and put on your cowboy boots. If you feel uncomfortable while walking in the soaked boots, wear a plastic bag over each sock.

Keep walking until they are almost dry; it really helps a great deal in summer. Once they are completely dry, use a leather-friendly conditioning product to condition your boot so that it doesn’t crack.

One of the best things about this method is that it is inexpensive, plus it helps you to achieve a custom fit. However, keep in mind that it might take a long time for the leather to dry.

2. Consider Wearing Your Boots With Two Pairs Of Socks

If you feel your boots need a slight increase in their widths, consider wearing them with two pairs of socks. As you can imagine, double-socked feet exerts pressure on the leather of the boot, thereby stretching it and freeing some space for your feet.

Note that this method might be a little painful; that’s why I strongly recommend wearing only a maximum of two socks per foot. Wearing more than two socks will most certainly cram your toes, causing blisters while walking. If you are thinking of going with this method, ensure that you do it in the noon when it’s slightly warmer so that the boot bends easily.

I also love this technique as it is inexpensive and not as messy as the previous method. However, as I mentioned before, it will be painful and you will require several sessions to get the desired stretch.

3. Freezing A Sealable Bag Of Water In Your Cowboy Boots

Sounds a little odd? Trust me; it is highly effective if you can pull it off. As you know, when water freezes, it expands and turns into ice. You can make use of this natural phenomenon to stretch your cowboy boots’ toe box area.

To perform this method, first, you have to fill a sealable bag with up to ¾ volume of water. That should be more than enough and then try sealing it with as little air as possible. To ensure that the water doesn’t leak out, you can turn it upside down.

Then place the water bag into your cowboy boot’s toe box and make sure that it is close to the toe. After that, you have to leave it in your freezer for a minimum of 8 hours.

As the water will expand into ice, it will help stretch your cowboy boots. Also, make sure you defrost the ice bag before removing it slowly.

Needless to say, it is an inexpensive method of stretching your boots. And the best part about this method is that it stretches in small increments; hence, you can rest assured that your boots will not be ruined.

4. Apply Steam Inside Your Cowboy Boots

While this method is truly effective, please keep in mind that it is harmful to the leather, so do it at your own risk. First, direct the steam towards the area you want to stretch by using a kettle of boiling water or a garment steamer for at least 20 seconds.

Now, press the affected area; if it still feels firm, steam the area again for 15 seconds. Once it gets soft, put your boots on and walk around. It’s best to keep them on until they dry to make sure that it properly conforms to the features of your feet.

Once your cowboy boots are dry, use a leather-friendly product to condition them. This method will certainly help you achieve a custom fit but it may also deteriorate the integrity of the leather.
