How To Install A Floating Bathroom Vanity

Floating vanities, thanks to their sleek look and utility, are becoming increasingly popular among homeowners.

I, too, am not immune to the bandwagon, as I recently bought one for my bathroom. And although I’m not a big fan of DIY projects, I decided to take it on. So today, I’ll tell you all about how to install a floating bathroom vanity.

Steps To Install A Floating Bathroom Vanity

Step 1 - Get The Right Tools

One of the first things that I’d recommend is to get hold of a wooden plank or strip, which should be of the same length as the vanity itself. Installing the vanity this way  (instead of mounting it directly on the wall) will provide it with extra support, as well as make room for organizing any protruding pipes.

Once you have it, grab the following:

  • Cordless drill
  • A circular or hand saw
  • Stud finder (optional)
  • Pencils or markers
  • Deck screws and screwdriver
  • Rear bars

Step 2 - Drill The Holes

Start by determining the exact location and height at which you want the vanity to be installed, mark the outline and the spots for the rear bar holes. I’d suggest using a stud finder to ensure straight lines.

Next, use the cordless drill to make the holes so that the rear support bars go only halfway through when you insert them. At the same time, keep in mind that the height of the holes should coincide with the mounting inserts located at the back of the vanity.

Step 3 - Mount The Lumber

Proceed to install the plank using the deck screws. You may have to cut the wood to shape it according to the studs or plumbing fixtures on the wall, but ensure that its thickness is similar to that of the drywall. I have mounted mine with angled screws to make the lumber frame sturdier.

Moreover, you can paint the plank to match it with the rest of the bathroom decor and add a protective (preferably waterproof) coating. Remember that you should install the vanity only when the wood is completely dry, so take your time with this step.

Step 4 - Mount The Vanity

The vanity should come with compatible mounting brackets, screws, and an instructions manual for the assembly, so you can use them to set it up. In case of a wooden vanity, you can apply some glue to the support bars before mounting it.

Once the vanity is installed, keep a few items, especially the heavier ones, to see if it can properly hold them. However, be careful with this step, as improper installation can bring it down, damaging the wall or floor. Make any required adjustments, and the vanity is ready to use!

Conclusion

DIY installations, albeit fun and satisfying, can prove to be challenging if you don’t have the required expertise or tools. Besides, you may end up damaging the fixture or the nearby surfaces, so don’t shy away from availing the services of a professional handyman if you aren’t feeling confident.

On that note, I will wrap up today’s guide. See you next time!
