If you plan to have a living unit in the basement, a bathroom is essential, which means having a shower drain installed.

How To Install Shower Drain In Basement Floor

When trying to install a shower drain in the basement, remember that it is the lowest point in your home. Hence, certain things have to be noted while working with it, and they are:

1. Gravity

Gravity plays a vital role in sending the wastewater from drains down the sewer line to the main drain. When it comes to basement shower drains, they will be at the same level as the main sewer pipe. Hence, you will have to make sure that the flow is correct.

2. Trenches

A trench will have to be dug around the main sewer line, so you will have to break the concrete floor surrounding the sewer pipes. This could be time-consuming, and I highly recommend taking professional help.

3. Concrete

If you cannot do any concrete construction around the basement, you will have to settle for an alternative method of disposing of water. It can be done by sending the water upwards to the main drain line via pumps. Talk to your local authorities about the regulations in your area to avoid any negative consequences.

4. Setting Up The Trap

While constructing the shower drain, there should be enough space for setting up the trap. A trap is basically a U-shaped pipe found underneath the shower drains and sinks.

Now, if you are thinking of skipping this part, I advise you not to do that. The trap collects all the hair, objects, and other valuables that might fall into the drain and cause major blockages. Plus, it protects the bathroom from sewer gasses and is an excellent solution to avoid clogs. But remember that you will have to dig deeper to install this in place.

Final Words

Now that you have all the knowledge about how to install shower drain in basement floor, it is time to start working. Note that you will have to be very careful while digging, and it is best to get all the required permissions from the local authorities before starting the project.

Furthermore, purchase the parts beforehand and get a handyperson to help if you are unsure of the measurements. You can even talk to a local plumbing company and find out their prices for the job. If you find it affordable, get help to speed up the process.

Take care and stay informed!
