The height of the grass in your lawn depends on the type of grass and your preference, of course.
Many people prefer to keep the grass shorter because tall grass can look unkempt. On the other hand, very short grass does not retain moisture and could become barren. Ultimately, getting the perfect grass length is a matter of trial and error.
So if you are wondering, "how to lower a riding mower," read on ahead.
Usually, riding mowers have an adjustment knob or lever on the left side of the seat. All you need to do is pull the lever counterclockwise or push it towards the back. The only thing to be careful of is to lock the mower in place before adjusting the blade height. Alternatively, if you want to increase the height, move the knob or lever in the opposite direction.
However, here is a general guide to changing the height of any riding mower-
Before we begin, note that the knobs and levers on each mower may differ depending on the brand of the device. Since I have a Sears Craftsman, I'll be listing the steps for this particular lawnmower, but you can use the same steps for most other models too.
1. Ensure The Mower Does Not Move
First of all, you need to be seated on the mower to change the height settings. Press down the brake pedal and release so that the brake is set. This is a good precautionary measure that prevents unnecessary movements while lowering the mower.
2. Engage The Choke Control
Next, place the gear in neutral and turn the attachment clutch inwards to the disengaged position. This switch should be on the right side of your mower dashboard in most cases.
After this, locate the throttle control knob, which should be towards the left side of the dashboard, and switch the setting to "Fast." Now, you should pull the choke control towards the right side of the control knob in order to engage it.
3. Push Choke Control Inwards
When this is done, start the engine and let go of the key when the engine is up and running. Give the lawnmower a few minutes to settle and gently push the choke inwards.
4. Press The Plunger To Lower Blades
Locate the plunger at the right-hand side of the board, which should be on top of the attachment lever. Press the plunger with your thumb while simultaneously pulling the adjustment lever towards you. This motion should lower the blades in your lawnmower.
Now, let go of the lever and plunger and pull the attachment clutch towards the outer end allowing the cutting blades to rotate.
In closing, mowing a lawn to perfection takes time and practice. So, it is worth learning how to adjust the height of the cutting blades so that you can get the perfect height for your yard or garden.
I hope this short guide helps you the next time you need to lower the riding mower. That's all for today, goodbye!
