Before learning how to remove the head of your trimmer, it is vital to understand the construction of the trimmer. Homelite trimmers come with a string that spins quickly and is used for cutting grass in spots that a lawnmower cannot access.
The trimmer head holds the spool containing the string, and the shaft may be either straight or curved. Your string trimmer head will also come with a cover that screws to the trimmer shaft or a tabbed cover.
Over time, the trimmer string can break and eventually wear out with regular use. You can either get the string rewound or replace the spool of the device with a new one in such cases. For removing the old spool, you will need to remove the retainer cap, which connects the spool with the trimmer head.
The first step is to turn off the engine of the Homelite string trimmer and unplug it from the power source for safety. Then, look at the reverse side of the trimmer and examine its head to find the retainer cap of the spool.
If a nut secures it, the nut must be unscrewed for removing the cover. Alternatively, you might find tabs instead of a nut that needs to be depressed for removing the cover.
In case the cover has a nut, you will need to hold the string head and unscrew the nut by turning it counterclockwise before lifting the cover of the head. If the cover has a red nut, you will need to turn it clockwise instead of counterclockwise.
On the other hand, if the cover does not have a nut, place your hand on it, and look for two tabs that should be present on opposite sides of the cover. Squeeze the tabs together and lift the cover at the same time, and it should come right off.
Once you know how to remove Homelite electric trimmer head from your trimmer easily, it can help save a lot of time and effort.
The only thing to keep in mind is maintaining safety and not being negligent. These include disabling the trimmer by removing the spark plug or unplugging it from the power socket before undertaking the disassembly process, which will prevent accidents.
