How to Start a Toro Snowblower

When it comes to home and gardening tools, few brands can come close to Toro in terms of performance and customer experience.

And one of the most popular offerings from the brand is its snowblower, which is easy to use and suitable for use on several types of surfaces. However, it can be tricky for new customers to know how to start it.

That’s where this guide can help you out.

The Toro Snowblower

As most of you might know, Toro is a leading American brand specializing in manufacturing and selling equipment, such as lawn mowers, snowblowers, and irrigation system supplies. Originally established in 1914 to build engines for farm tractors, the brand now also caters to international customers and has built up a remarkable reputation in the industry.

The Toro snowblower is an impressive machine that works on most snow-covered surfaces, such as driveways and is among the fastest models on the market. It is a 24-inch gas-powered self-propelled snowblower that comes with an electric start, making it an easy-to-use machine.

Starting The Toro Snowblower

Here are the steps that can help you start your Toro snowblower:

Step 1:

First, twist the oil dipstick and pull it out of the engine. It is located on the top and middle part of the snowblower engine.

Step 2:

After pulling out the dipstick, pour the oil used for lubricating the engine into its hole and replace it. The oil will also protect it from wear and damage.

Step 3:

Open the fuel tank located in the back right corner of the engine. To do this, twist the cap and lift to remove it.

Step 4:

After opening the fuel tank, fill it up with gasoline but make sure to leave about ½-inch space.

Step 5.

To start the snowblower, look for the throttle control knob, which is located to the left of the starter rope. Slide this lever to the option labeled Fast.

Step 6:

To ensure that gasoline reaches the engine, you need to open the valve by turning the fuel shutoff knob counterclockwise.

Step 7:

Next, twist the choke until it is set to Full. The choke is located next to the spark plug on top of the engine.

Step 8:

The Toro snowblower comes with an ignition key which acts as a safety feature. To start it, place this key in the keyhole next to the throttle knob.

Step 9:

Look for the primer bulb that draws gasoline into the snowblower engine and is located to the right of the throttle lever. Cover the hole on this bulb and press it three times.

Step 10:

To start the snowblower, grip the starter rope handle and pull it out quickly. Do this a couple of times until the machine starts.

Step 11:

Once the snowblower has started, turn the choke to the ¾ position and let the engine warm up before turning the choke to the ½ position. Finally, turn the choke to the Off position.

Some Tips To Keep In Mind

Here are a few tips that can make your job easier when starting a Toro snowblower.

1. Use Good Quality Oil

Gasoline gets old over time, and the older it is, the more time it takes to ignite and can even leave behind harmful deposits in the machine. That is why it is best to use gasoline that is less than 30 days old.

2. Check The Spark Plug

Before starting the snowblower, check the spark plug to ensure it is in good condition and replace it if required. Also, check that the spark plug wire attaches securely to the plug.

3. Inspect The Oil

You should also check the oil for contaminants that can affect the performance of the tool and cause increased wear. Regular inspection will prevent this from happening.

4. Go Through The Owner’s Manual

It is a good idea to go through the owner’s manual to learn about the starting procedures and precautions to be followed while operating the machine. It will help keep the machine in good operating shape and prevent accidents.

Final Thoughts

Now you know how to start a Toro snowblower, it is time to get that snow piled on your driveway cleared up. But before that, review the safety precautions mentioned in the manual. If you have any doubts, contact the manufacturer before using the machine.

Now, I’ll be wrapping things up. Until next time!
