Korky vs. Fluidmaster

Humming, clogging, and leaking - yes, there’s something wrong with your toilet.

Leaking toilets are definitely irksome. But, they need fixing, just like any other household item. Being a homeowner, the thing that I loathe the most is fixing toilets.

Recently, I noticed that my toilet seemed to produce a weird, annoying sound. Therefore, I set myself on a mission to find out the underlying problem. Turned out, the valves had worn out, which was causing leaks.

Of course, you cannot keep replacing your toilets every now and then. Therefore, I began hunting for the best DIY toilet replacement kit. While browsing the internet, I happened to stumble upon Korky and Fluidmaster.

Unable to decide which one to buy, I ordered both kits and tried them in separate washrooms. That’s when I decided to put together a guide on Korky vs. Fluidmaster. Howdy! I’m Stacy Smith, and today I’m back with yet another guide just for you.

So, let’s jump right into the deets!

Korky vs. Fluidmaster

Whether you have to fix leaking toilets, broken valves, or missing caskets, you must only go for high-quality toilet repair kits. Both Korky and Fluidmaster are top-rated brands on the market.

But, of course, you need to choose one for your tasks. So, which one is best for your chores? To help you figure that out, I’ve compared both brands. But, before that, let’s take a brief look at the two brands. So, keep on reading!

Korky

Made in the USA, Korky has been manufacturing high-quality for fixing your toilet. Offering a 5-year warranty, Korky assures top-notch service to its users. Its toilet kits are highly durable, thanks to their sturdy construction. What I like about this toilet kit is that it is quiet and reduces unnecessary noise while flushing. It has become my go-to choice for fixing my toilets.

Fluidmaster

For over 60 years, Fluidmaster has been making people’s life easier through its toilet repair kits. Whether you hear thumping, rumbling, or hissing sounds from your toilets, the sturdy kits of this brand are super helpful in fixing runny or leaking toilets. Plus, its 5-year warranty assures you that you won’t face any problems.

Korky vs. Fluidmaster

1. Fill Valves

Ask a homeowner and hear them say that replacing fill valves is the most complicated part of the toilet. Because there are moving elements in a fill valve, I suggest you use a high-quality mechanism.

Both Korky and Fluidmaster have omitted the traditional ballcock fill valve. The absence of a giant float saves a lot of space within the tank.

When it comes to valves, the float on the valves of Fluidmaster are cylindrical on the exterior. The float keeps on rising with water levels. Finally, when it reaches the top, the water supply ceases. On the other hand, Korky features a small, compact internal float. One drawback of the  float of Korky is that it accidentally gets stuck inside every once in a while.

However, Fluidmaster edges over the Korky fill valves because it saves space while still allowing you to see what’s going in it. Moreover, the Fluidmaster offers a 7-year warranty against the 5-year warranty of Korky, which makes it a better bet any day.

2. Wax Ring vs. Wax-Free Gaskets

Wax rings and wax-free gaskets are used to seal leaking toilets. Ideally, wax rings were used to seal the space between the flange and the bathroom to prevent leaks. However, wax-free gaskets have gained much popularity in recent times. Both wax ring and wax-free gaskets function equally well.

At first glance, the Korky and Fluidmaster appeared quite similar to me. The kits of both the brands included everything from brass closet bolts to spacers, nuts, and plastic washers to hold bolts upright. Also, both brands do a great job in offering a 10-year warranty.

However, the wax ring of Korky features a rubber seal over wax against the traditional wax rings of Fluidmaster. The lower bolt holes on the Korky make inserting bolts and keeping it upright an easy task.

Meanwhile, the Fluidmaster’s wax gasket is versatile for it works well even for flanges below floor level. Moreover, it’s highly durable, thanks to its extra-thick material. However, I prefer Korky because it’s easy to install. This is why Korky edges over Fluidmaster.

Features Of Korky And Fluidmaster Kits: A Comparison

After looking at fill valves and wax rings, and wax-free gaskets, let’s compare some of the key features of the two toilet repair kits.

1. Easy Installation

When it comes to installation, both Korky and Fluidmaster are easy to install. No matter which kit you go for, each kit comes with a detailed instruction manual. No fancy tool or hacksaw is required to install them.

2. Durability

The toilet repair kits by Korky feature stainless brass bolts, while the Fluidmaster features solid brass bolts. As such, both are highly durable. However, Korky is resistant to hard water, chlorine, and bacteria. Meanwhile, Fluidmaster is resistant to rust and corrosion. Although both are highly durable, I suggest you go for Korky because of its resistance.

3. Warranty

Korky offers a warranty of about 5 years, covering repairing and restoring broken parts at no extra cost. Meanwhile, the Fluidmaster kit is covered with a 5 to 7-year warranty, including replacement in case of any breakage. Thus, 5 - 7 years of warranty coupled with replacement, makes Fluidmaster the best bet any day.

  1. I'm confused. Online videos say you need a hacksaw for the Fluidmaster flush valve, while the Korky is adjustable with no cutting. But that is not mentioned. Did i miss something?
